0:01
we're like what was I supposed to tell you no you don't have to tell me I mean
0:07
we can just go live if you're watching the replay well welcome if you're watching the
0:12
replay David burrows too scared for a
0:18
third week running prepared for this and you're still here yeah the one week you
0:27
had no no sound but you did have sound right okay and Eddie if you're watching
0:33
now I thank you for for joining us and
0:39
David's going to post a link hopefully on Facebook to join those live on there
0:44
yeah I just have to find it well why was she doing a sticks playing
0:50
my mic not wearing a shirt I suppose it's a bank holiday in the UK which
0:58
means that the nation takes a holiday apart from the shops who work Sunday
1:04
hours our banks are closed we have eight of these every year and it's basically a
1:13
statutory holiday in other words you've got to take it and if you work it then you get paid extra and so Christmas Day
1:22
Boxing Day statue holidays and then first Monday in May and the last Monday
1:29
in May but bank holidays and then New Year's Day as a bank holiday August
1:35
disappoint qaulity but it means that I haven't been working today I've been checking things out on
1:40
Facebook I've been out in the fresh air at a charity event organized by our
1:46
local Rotary Club nice now in the Sun
1:51
because it's 27 degrees here today okay which is no sort of record for the UK
2:01
15/16 oh my god we need to send me some some well we've got Sun it's uh Mother
2:10
Nature has been up and down she's been smoking crack for well yeah yeah we used to be 2324
2:18
tomorrow and then back down to 11 on Friday like she's still kind of smokin
2:23
uh funny stuff I think well hello everybody and welcome broadcasting to
2:28
your community which we're not really talking about it so we're just kind of talking which is great that's what I love about Stephen Gilly and we just
2:37
kind of wing it and away we go and there's Eddie garrison already in
2:42
the lobby I assume and I it's interesting that he's here because I was
2:48
scrolling through the be live group looking for people to join my network as
2:54
well and I saw and I thought well I got to reach out to that guy so and now the laws of the universe of spoken and there
3:00
he is welcome Eddie hey guys what's going on thanks for having me hey thanks for joining us welcome good afternoon nice
3:06
to meet you yeah nice to meet you guys I see you guys all the time on shows and obviously in the be live community and
3:11
when Steve posted or somebody wanted to be a guest especially with the topic of
3:16
just people just starting out which is something I love to talk about I couldn't wait to jump on in and see if I
3:22
could contribute something yeah fantastic well we appreciate the the engagement and and I don't know if you
3:27
just hear me saying that I I was going through the bee libraries group because with the page that I have the video show
3:33
network I'm doing the same thing that that stephen students live video husband and wanting people to to join my network
3:41
as well okay awesome now but you you uh you don't go live on a page though do
3:48
you I go I do actually I go live on my personal account on a page and I go live on my year okay yep but I I made a I set
3:57
a goal this year to go live at least twice a week in 2018 for myself and so
4:04
far we're signing up for be live I've done I believe right at 26 or 28 live streams personally and probably at least
4:11
that many as a co-host or a guest on other people's show so that's fantastic well above my goal that I set which is
4:17
awesome it's great when you set goals and it's even greater when you achieve them and and you know what if you write
4:23
them down and it's in your face every day it's kind of hard not to so I like I've been on my dry erase board in front
4:29
of my off or in right here in front of my desk I have it on a small dry erase board on the refrigerator and I even
4:34
have it on the dry erase board in our laundry room even I love this guy I tell my my wife and my son all the time write
4:42
it down and you people who write things down are more likely to achieve their
4:49
goals and those that just talk about them if it's in your face almost 24/7 it's hard to ignore and it's kind of
4:55
hard to kind of put it on the back burner since it's always right in your face that's fantastic good for you you're the right kind of
5:03
person to be around some would argue that point but I guess people say that
5:09
to me too but I say well depends who you ask exactly right
5:16
Stephen do you know any we don't know
5:23
we'd notice the first time the three of us have met live all right I think we've watched each of the shows yes the first
5:30
time by the chance to get together and have a chat and Stephen where do you live in England I live in Wiltshire okay
5:38
like I actually wanted to live in Surrey in a little town called Byfleet sir oh by flea Yeah right okay so you came over
5:48
here to work or I when I was in University two of the guys that I lived with were from Byfleet and a couple of
5:55
times during the year usually around the holidays because it was obviously when we were off school I would go visit and
6:01
then the last year that I was there I was just like how the hell will that I'll stick around for a while so that's that's how I got there fantastic so how
6:09
did you discover be life ah honestly on Twitter I saw somebody going live and I
6:17
was like holy crap look how cool these graphics look oh wow it's branded because I was looking for something for
6:23
my customers to be able to do that and I wanted it to be branded I didn't want it to be edited because obviously I could
6:29
put anything in Premiere Pro and you know Brandon do whatever I needed but on the live side it was actually quite hard
6:36
to find something like that that was reasonably priced actually and I know OBS and all that good stuff
6:41
is free but I wanted something that my customers could just like drop on their phone and do it if I wasn't there and be
6:48
live presented itself almost pure happenstance and I've been running with it ever since yeah it's a fantastic service and I love
6:56
the fact that I can create all these different frames as well because I come from a graphic design background so I'm able to create all these and import them
7:02
in which is really really nice right sorry I'm doing two things at once
7:08
here yeah we're both not holding the fort yeah
7:15
we'll be like I mean I've been live streaming for about 10 years so I'm like
7:21
way back to it and seeing a lot of changes in the world and like I used to
7:27
use Skype right for my night of use yeah and I had a ready app forget what it's
7:32
called now but and it was okay and this was something that I was like oh I can't
7:39
I like I wish I was a programmer because I have it right here I just don't know how to write and then I'm even trying to
7:46
remember how I discovered it I think it was just googling and googling and googling and grating and then finally
7:52
one day it showed up in front of my face and I was like that's kind of cool and I
7:57
love I love I love the platform itself obviously I love the simplicity of it but you can actually make it obviously
8:04
is robust nearly as you want you know with being able to bring in your own graphics and you know doing the screen
8:10
share and everything so that's one of the reasons I'm really attracted to me attracted me to be live in the beginning
8:16
was like I said I was looking something for my customers to be able to pick up their phone do if I couldn't make it to
8:22
their live event but then for myself I was like I need something a little bit more robust and then you know I can
8:28
bring in my own designs and that's really that's what I like about be live you know it you can start out hit the go
8:35
live button and you're there it's really simple or you can make it you know your own monster if you will yeah
8:41
if Robert stern can do it anybody can do it are you taunting him now I know
8:46
you're inspire and Robert if you wanna drain is please
8:51
do yeah I has to join now right he's into a bit more I think that's abused to
8:59
be live it just works out the box and you can show somebody the ropes and get
9:04
them live and then if they want to take it further start from your desktop built-in camera and microphone if you
9:11
want to take it further then you can do it or you can spend as much as you want or as little yeah exactly
9:17
the word live right I think is and Steven and I have had this conversation many times between us and and several
9:24
other people people are afraid to get in front of that camera and I think even
9:33
once they get beyond that fear they're still afraid of all the technical stuff that might go along with it right right
9:40
and the your life takes that away right it's and I tell people I say just just
9:46
get in front of it and just click live start broadcast it's that simple right you know and it can take a little bit to
9:53
even you know multitask and you know bring in yes and do it but but really
9:58
it's not that hard right that all comes in practice you know I mean nobody's going to run a ten percent interview the
10:04
first time they go live on V live that's just not in the cards it's not feasible and another thing that's great about be
10:11
live is you know you don't even have to go live to test it out you know you just hit that only me drop-down box and you
10:17
can Varick you go live so that's a really good benefit I believe also to
10:22
this platform because they see a lot of people that are really really solid on YouTube but they never go alive and I
10:30
don't know if it's obviously they don't mind being in front of the camera but they like that polished that edited you
10:35
know that quote-unquote perfect look but I think a lot of times these guys are missing a little bit because going live
10:41
you know it there's gonna be mistakes you're gonna be in front of people in it there's there's gonna be slip-ups but
10:48
that what's that's what makes you human and that's what gives the live just that better more experience especially an
10:53
engagement right and ready set go shirt Monday
11:05
today it's a holiday in the UK Robert so the Sun must be out I mean I was just
11:11
gonna sit and listen and be nice nobody else but no David you had to talk me you
11:21
would have come in anyway no my dentist even the other day best friend I didn't
11:27
even know you he was like I just popped on it didn't even say my name was like whoa yeah Eddy
11:38
I'm doing well Robert how are you good Robert what's doing your world Sunshine
11:43
State sorry what's new in my world just say it second week of May already it's in that
11:51
crazy it's like well how did that happen seven more weeks of school and for my
11:58
daughter and it's like you know what the hell's going on it's like you know as we get older it's the news faster I thought
12:04
it was supposed to well maybe I'm slower but everything else was fast yeah yeah that's probably the case well
12:14
it and and I forget what movie was that I watched it was an older movie Oh Eddie
12:19
Murphy in was a Bowfinger or oh wow yeah or something or I can't remember what it
12:30
was but he was kind of like a kind of like a god figure type thing and and he was saving everybody's lives and stuff
12:37
and what the heck was that called anyway he said when you put things in
12:43
perspective for example if you say you're 80 years old that sounds like a lot right mm-hmm it's only 80 summers 80
12:53
Springs 80 winters and 80 Falls and when you put it in that perspective doesn't seem like
13:00
that much does it 20 seasons yes all right I when I was in university I'd say what
13:07
is gonna ruin it sorry I said 320
13:13
seasons I took this sociology class and our professor and no one was able to ever
13:19
give him a definitive answer and it was it was quite something along these lines that you were just talking about David I guess if we didn't have any concept of
13:27
time how old would you be yeah it's a
13:32
crazy thought to even think about okay here we go so two plus two is really five right yeah a little deep for Monday
13:39
I know let me get this sleep out of my eyes where is everybody I know Stephen
13:46
is obviously in England David are you in Canada I am in Sarnia Ontario Canada by
13:53
73,000 people where I'm at and right on the border of Port Huron Michigan the
14:01
thumb of Michigan yeah I go if I can go that way three minutes and I'm on the
14:07
blue outer bridge into the United States yeah and they just let you come in David I mean are you picture Subway depends
14:21
who's working the gates that day and Robert New York City cool Joisey Joisey
14:32
not the jersey by Steve exactly now in
14:39
the funny part is I'm in Essex County what there's a lot of England in the USA
14:46
as far as town and city names is concerned I watched a video over the weekend on Saturday morning and I've
14:53
gotta say did it at home it was a very moving speech in front of a live
15:01
audience of 610 people and this chap got up stood up and spoke for about five
15:08
minutes and he had the audience totally on his side by end of it and the
15:13
gentleman is from Canada and that gentleman is david burrows David we like
15:19
to tell us about Friday night sure
15:28
I'm not usually thrown off but it's okay well it was a pretty emotional night so
15:38
we do this thing a friend of mine started that his name is Adam Dumont and
15:43
he's a realtor here in Surrey and last year he started something called Sarnia
15:48
sings and it's for a fundraiser and
15:54
awareness for mental health and suicide prevention so he brought me in last year
16:00
to have me help him with some you know kind of consulting on how to put things together whatever and then he asked me
16:06
to be the emcee and it went really well and then this year he had me back again
16:12
as the emcee and I even Steven you didn't see it it wasn't put out there but I'll put it out there but I sang a
16:17
song and I had another speaking moment right before that and then what Stevens
16:25
referring to so we have like 20 singers and it's it's kind of like karaoke but
16:31
like there's words on the screen on the stage but the music doesn't come out there's actually a live band behind you
16:36
playing the music they call themselves rock star live and they're fantastic members from killer dwarfs moist the
16:45
band Toronto Burton Cummings band are all in this band so you're actually rocking it out with real rock stars and
16:52
so we have 20 singers there's probably about four or five young kids like 7 to
16:58
10 years old who your jaw would just be on the floor as soon as they open their mouth you're like really
17:03
and then there's adults in it as well so that everybody comes out sings one song and we just keep going and there's
17:09
actually no rehearsal to it there's the rehearsal is like the day of if you want
17:15
a quick run-through on your song or part of that's it so it's it's really super live so I was given the opportunity yeah
17:29
it was it was it's a very emotional thing and my friend Mario black was coming out
17:35
to play his guitar and he pulled me backstage and said Dave I want to talk
17:40
to you about how you're gonna introduce me so we went down into the green room by ourselves and he come to tell me
17:47
about how his roommate ended his life back in November and I asked him who it
17:52
was and it turned out I knew him as well and I had no idea so that was kind of part of the the lead-in to the speech
17:59
that I gave it's on my Facebook page so it was like I find this out right before
18:05
I'm about to walk out on stage and start the show so anyway holding it together
18:10
as best so it was definitely an emotional night but it was a very that was also very positive and entertaining
18:16
night with all the music and the talent that was up there and it was a sold-out crowd of 610 people in our local theatre
18:21
so that's yeah so I was given a moment to to embrace the crowd if you will and
18:29
share stories when I said that I watched it on Saturday morning it went far beyond the 610 people who were actually
18:37
there live and if anybody gets chance to visit Davis page I suggest that you take
18:43
a look because it was very emotional evening and but it was a fundraiser as
18:49
well wasn't it David to bring attention not only to the problem you know to raise funds yeah and I think she did
18:57
well as 610 people it's mental health is
19:03
one of those conversations that comes up quite often on my show my other show
19:09
which is I don't even bring it up but just somehow comes into the conversation as a matter of fact today on my show
19:16
one of the gentlemen coming on and Craig Mackenzie's from a local agency to talk about Mental Health Awareness Week which
19:23
here is starts on today so all this week is mental health awareness week so it's
19:31
kind of everywhere and I think the biggest part of it all is that you never know who it really is that it's
19:37
affecting I interviewed Michael Landsberg who was a big sports guy here
19:44
in Canada on TSN and he speaks out about mental health and when I interviewed him off camera
19:53
the off-camera interviews are often the ones that are the most interesting but he said you know even arrogantly he said
20:00
and I mentioned it in my speech the other day was that people don't know who it really affects he says people look at
20:07
me all the time and go like you know look at him he's got money and he's got
20:12
Fame and a great family oh my goodness he's admitting he has mental health
20:18
issues so he's still not right so anyway Thank You Steven for that ok it was a
20:24
family affair too wasn't it I mean the video was taken by your son yeah my son
20:31
I'm kind of proud of that kid that's a
20:37
studio right through there and your
20:51
parent is David burrows you'd be really careful right so he was there taking off
21:03
taking all the video for for the nights and I embarrassed him as well that made
21:10
him stand up in front of everybody and wave and I did the same thing to my wife and she was like really I got to do that
21:16
every time well that was really funny
21:29
because she didn't say that later she was like I was hoping that he couldn't see me because it was really dark but
21:34
one time the lights get the house lights came up but I'd look at home there she is I mean everybody's been at these
21:42
these awards dinners or fundraisers or anything else and you get up there you want to talk about your family and they
21:49
think you're not gonna do it they think oh the lights are out everything else but but wait a minute
21:55
you all came in the car together so you know she's in the room so you gotta save something you
22:03
kind of know she's there there you go is that is that your son that's my son
22:09
and I to come on the show click the link
22:16
or walk into the room will see it yeah you might walk just walk into the room and say hey so in he helps me he helps
22:27
me we livestream lacrosse games here in town we do like a 5 camera shoot for
22:33
that and he helps me without and we do a lot of work with our friend Kevin Jack
22:39
from we stream and cameras and everything all that so he's having his 18th birthday coming up in August and
22:46
yeah we he him and I work our best excuse me our business together so he's a part of my business he's a partner did
22:55
you know him before be life no oh before be live yeah before be live I did
23:02
ok cuz I remember when he came on one time and it was explaining what it did and you didn't mention you did work with
23:09
him yet or not so that's nice so it's kind of like it's showing even to collaborate with people how much live
23:16
streaming works yeah absolutely it's so we discovered each other in a switcher
23:24
studio group that's the platform that we using and then we started going
23:29
oh he's in Canada oh he's in Canada and it was really quite odd because I reached out to him and and he had almost
23:35
was hitting the enter key to send me a message when he got mine and then we've
23:41
collab there up Niagara way so they're both I don't know three and a half hours
23:46
from where we live and yeah I was collaborated and now Jason and I have been to many events to work for them
23:51
through my company and actually this weekend we're going to are we going ah Xiu ah to do one oh look the Bo Y wants
24:02
to join the broadcast the be a life that's what we call the Bo Y so we're
24:08
gonna i'll have to kick one of you ever let seek me out okay I would volunteer Stephen Doan himself
24:17
on the grenade problem it'll send the
24:22
link and see what embarrassing things my son has to say about his old man so he
24:28
doesn't realize that the link is pinned to the top I told them no I got a dig a
24:41
hole in the wall you know you you just
24:50
mentioned actually David switcher Studios that was that was one of the first ones that I used as well okay
24:55
because you could Brant you could you could bring in your own logo and do that the only thing at the time I'm not certain if it's changed or anything but
25:02
you couldn't see the comments the facebook comments and you can go live
25:11
using a custom RTMP as well so I use restream so I go live to you know
25:16
periscope and Twitter right youtube and wherever all at the same time right the reason I jumped on switcher first was
25:22
because you could go live on YouTube without having the youtube follower
25:27
account you could just you could have one follower one subscriber and you could go live to your YouTube channel which was cool yeah yeah no it's it's
25:34
quite a platform and like we did a lacrosse game yesterday where you can
25:39
add up the 9 cameras to it now right and we do what we do 1 2 3 4 5 camera shoot
25:47
for in an arena and as long as you have a good Wi-Fi signal it's fantastic okay
25:54
here comes okay no now son why are you gonna embarrass me and be in portrait mode much better
26:06
Steve and I'm kicking you know okay
26:13
thanks for where's at the old man portrait mode really hello son baby oh I
26:19
know I just ruined everything when you do that
26:25
look at his setup - he's got the mic the big yeah yeah is that uh is that a
26:31
snowball mic yeah yeah because I have I have the Yeti or the blue yeah I got the
26:38
Yeti yeah I gotta get her raped here with zip ties and crap and it works
26:44
they put zip ties on the space shuttle it can't be that good oh well depends
26:50
which one you're talking about yeah so
26:55
this is my son Jason or aka the B of a why do I brag about often and he does
27:02
actually exist and I let him out of the wall I see he's working I do see an
27:10
editing software going yeah recording software I'm uh I'm in the middle of
27:17
working on a tutorial on how to work this program this open broadcaster
27:22
software nice Jason's basin's my co-op student he's in high school and and his
27:29
afternoon is that they have to have a co-op and he ended up doing his co-op with dad and so his co-op is often
27:38
coming out in live streaming with me we do a live stream from our local college doing video games and so today he's
27:45
working on what are you on for part three or four of your tutorial three
27:51
Jason how old are you 17 and you want to be involved in digital
27:57
media and all this live streaming stuff and everything yeah are you just doing this to please that partially the reason
28:06
I I'm just like sure why am i cuz he
28:12
asked me to be a student I'm like yeah okay I mean I'm already doing this so I might as well get credit for it exactly well it beats sitting in school
28:19
for eight hours you only got to sit in there for four hours now it's it's it's
28:26
an interesting relationship that we have because we have we have a great
28:31
father-son relationship already which I'm grateful for but there are times like like
28:38
cooperating that like the boss right I'm not I'm not dad I'm the boss there's a and I have to learn
28:44
how to decide you can still be a boss what's that
28:50
what did you say J I didn't know I didn't hear what you said oh yeah you guys cut out a bit I said like even
28:56
outside co-op he could be a bit of a boss sometimes well dad and boss are
29:01
synonymous terms Jason just a lot of why I'm not argument with my daughter we
29:09
have our moments so like I mean yesterday was actually an example of I wasn't necessarily overly impressed with
29:16
how he was handling some things at the broadcast so the dad and me wanted to
29:22
speak up right away but there were other people around so I had to be the proper boss and and get through it and then
29:30
after and a quiet private messenger sort away the conversation but Jason is also
29:39
really good honestly at expressing himself towards me when he feels like there's a better way to be doing it or
29:47
maybe he didn't like the way I handled it so he's it's and I have to respect that
29:53
as a boss and as a dad - right so I'm pretty fortunate I know those perils I worked for my
30:00
family for the better part of 12 years and it gets to a point where sometimes
30:05
there's it's hard to have a separation but you know because you know you could butt heads at work and then you're
30:10
supposed to be going out for a family dinner 25 minutes later in your life you
30:16
know your boss just called you an idiot but your mom is gonna pick up the check so you know what do you and she's paying
30:25
I kind of gotta go exactly right but it's good to see that you you know you
30:30
got that father-son relationship and you're breaking down the wall between you two pun intended the wall right
30:41
there yeah yeah but who paid for it
30:47
what's real in Quebec [Laughter]
30:55
Jason's uh and of course I I know I sound like I'm bragging cuz my son but and I kind of am i guess but Jason's
31:01
done really well at being his own person
31:07
too not just because when we go out like Jason I'll tell you he rolls his eyes because everybody knows David burrows
31:13
right but he honestly he's had to learn how to handle that sometimes there could
31:19
be a pain in the butt sometimes for him but he's and he's but he's his own person his own personality and and
31:24
because he's out in the community with me people are recognizing that and you
31:30
know he's he's learning to the the importance of relationships with people in the community and networking and he's
31:39
becoming his own entrepreneur as well right which is now people walk up to you
31:44
and go aren't you Jason Burroughs dad well do you know what's really funny is Jay I don't know if I told you this
31:50
story so we were at skits we're gonna
32:02
see a black screen we were at we were at
32:12
skits which is are one of our local high schools and it's called Great Lakes secondary right now because the school
32:18
that Jason went to closed so they moved them all over here to this old school that's going to be closed and likely
32:25
tore down and it's 97 years old so there are people in the community trying to
32:30
save at etc etc so it was built in 1921 and there was a time capsule put in the
32:36
cornerstone of the building in 1921 so they had an event a time capsule opening
32:43
and I was invited in to livestream the event and the opening of this time
32:49
capsule so again using switcher studio we had one it was just a two camera shot
32:55
but I was live up on stage with my camera as they opened this capsule
33:00
so anyway that's a whole other story but I was setting up my sound and I was trying to get a live feed out of the
33:07
board so I was waiting for the sound guy the geek and anyway the sound guy gets there and it's just young fella about
33:13
Jason's age and he says to me he goes you're David burrows right I go yeah he
33:21
goes oh you're Jason's dad instead of oh
33:27
oh you're Dave burrows is kid so it was like the other way around and my wife was standing that we just laughed so
33:33
hard through sessions did you happen to get a name his name was Steve Steve who's a top
33:42
student there pardon did he have like a dhoti thing and blond
33:48
hair yeah yeah oh yeah yeah it was just funny that he goes oh you're Jason it
33:55
was the other way around anyway I said where somebody said oh
34:02
your name is dad yeah and it's kind of like it's a proud moment it's kind of like well you know they're making a name
34:08
for this right yeah and kids are doing it in a much earlier age now like you
34:14
know I didn't become an entrepreneur myself until about four years ago you know and I'm and I'm 41 but I think that
34:23
obviously technology and specifically video in general now you know I mean I went I did the old school way you know I
34:28
went to college you know I've got two associate's degrees a bachelor's degrees and a master's right yeah
34:34
and now everybody can learn - the masters part basically everything that I did on YouTube
34:39
I learned it in a university but you could learn it on YouTube now yeah especially in the graphic design stuff
34:46
you know I mean I went to school to be a graphic designer in the beginning and it just kind of parlayed into something different but you know I
34:51
I've taught people in private jet you know in private groups now how to use Photoshop how to use Adobe Premiere and
34:58
you know I had to go to school for six years to learn how to do all this yeah Michael my daughter Rayna Eddy is
35:04
11 she has a YouTube channel right she does her own graphics and thumbnails she
35:11
uses canvas she uses cam Asia yeah I I mean this is an 11 year
35:16
old right well there's the one kid on YouTube that's like 8 that grosses a
35:21
million dollars a year doing toy reviews yeah where was that Jason is that Evan -
35:26
HD you're talking about David I gotta get this real quick who's that
35:32
ok then nevermind you don't know who he is it's not like a galaxy you oh no I
35:37
think no who use Evan yeah that's him yep that's talking about yeah
35:44
it's feeling you're coming back good no I know I'm but just some kudos for
35:49
coming on spring with you dad that's good to hear the two of you together and
35:56
times have changed I think we'd all agreed that you can find out anything you need to know through video mm-hmm
36:03
you know on YouTube the times of having to what we're fortunate we're fortunate
36:11
and to be 18 17 18 and entering this
36:17
industry coming in the most exciting time mm-hmm because this technology that we're using today has only been with us
36:23
for the last two years so your timing is good in a lot and a lot of the bugs are
36:29
getting already worked out so you don't have to worry about those I don't have to endure such pain and suffering through slow video and buffering and
36:36
delay and them do you even know what dial-up internet and I started in the
36:49
end of the internet world I had a bulletin board system do you remember what those were BBS yep and I
36:56
had a 1200 baud modem and I went from
37:03
that to a 2400 baud modem yeah and and I went to and I was an HS HS our robotics
37:14
14 4 and that was a kick-ass modem at that time I remember when I was a kid
37:20
and my parents just upgraded their computers in their office to 400 Meg hard drives
37:27
I have a 1 terabyte like us 64k not to
37:34
be enough to last anybody a lifetime right yeah Bill Gates sure well we had 32 km
37:42
just go back there to care around not so too you know and the the dot the floppy
37:49
disk drives were 7-inch 140 K yeah so now I remember having a floppy like the
37:55
big floppy that were 360k I remember the old Commodore 64 playing video games and
38:02
you would have to change there was actually two floppies because this games were so big that they fit a computer
38:11
that nobody computed on it was a claiming that's all you did we played Jumpman jr. I'm so thankful that I love
38:20
generation where these are not new right though is that there's a meme that's all
38:27
over obviously all the social media and there's a guy just holding those old 512 megabyte you know the little three and a
38:34
half ones and he's got like a stack and it's about three foot tall and then he's got a zip drive in the other hand and he
38:39
goes this is now this yeah yeah zip drives oh my god I remember when they
38:45
came out I was like oh yeah you've gotta get a gig of storage I was like whoa
38:51
this is him then this is him now oh yeah yeah well Steve just hit that nail in
38:58
the head are you 32 K or whatever of RAM and on my computer right now on my desktop I have 512 gig of ram so yeah
39:09
this guy's up here I don't know who I'm grabbing at right now he's that way it's
39:15
confusing because we're all seeing a different screen yeah my my grabbing at you right now no you're grabbing sad form I'm sitting
39:22
I'm sitting on your head right now
39:27
minute yeah sure we all have different views of where we're at on the screen
39:33
yeah I mean I'm in the bottom right I don't I think is that where everybody is
39:39
on their screen like as I'm in the bottom right on my screeners yeah bottom the bottom right for all guests and it's a
39:46
different experience from hosting the hosts in total control you can drop us at any moment you can bring us on screen
39:51
you can switch our microphones off it can change the graphics he can he's probably still with us you know he had
39:58
to take a call I'm seeing a new feature here wait a minute go I'm gonna try it on Steven
40:05
he's gonna accidentally close how cool is that what did you know what so was I so
40:13
beside the solo button there's a a new button and when I click on it underneath
40:21
the person it so the three of us are now
40:27
small on the bottom and you are large on top see I'm in charge I'm I am the
40:33
overlord of this show [Laughter]
40:39
did you know about this yeah yeah nice to use in loving for Britain oh wow it's
40:46
quite effective that's quite so now yeah so Eddie is now on top of the three of us Oh Lord and
40:57
Joe dad what's that buddy it's only an hour show dad Wow Robert
41:14
Downey's juniors iron men see back in my day Jason and Robert Downey jr. was a
41:20
talk show host not not that Robert Downey you're thinking of but there was
41:25
another guy named Robert Downey jr. and he was the big mouth remember that do
41:33
you know do you remember her that was Eddie vaguely yeah it was kind of like
41:38
the he was like Jerry Springer before Jerry Springer Wow what Jerry Springer weatherman at one point or something
41:44
like that I mean it was of a TV show yeah he's actually a I don't know if he still is he was a mayor of a city
41:52
probably Vegas I think about he's the mayor of Vegas I've been
41:58
and they just anointed me Eddie you're now the mayor of Las Vegas my god I think you can buy that online it's on
42:05
Amazon yeah I'm sure I saw somebody the other day doing a live video of like all the cool things that you can buy on
42:11
Amazon and he bought a house live on the air because I unbelievable I was like
42:16
really dude well what's they don't like a lot easier to just buy a house back in those days
42:23
well oh yeah I'm sure a lot cheaper I can tell you that yeah if you live in
42:30
London and you're looking to buy a house and you say late twenties early thirties
42:36
then you can't because the fine in the deposit is just virtually impossible
42:42
right and with house prices over a million dollars well I mean there's only
42:50
like six hundred thousand pounds in it yeah number eight six six at the moment
42:57
it is I've just got paid by you to me and I can confirm that is the exchange rate you know so yeah I I was when you
43:08
have me down in lobby David I was busy saying hello to everybody
43:15
yeah buying a buying a house now is I'm not sure I'd ever do it again like we live in a condo now and I it's just you
43:23
know teach their own you know it's that the eanes to the means to an end whatever your end is gonna be but I'm
43:29
not sure I would ever do it again yeah it's one thing I've been chasing really
43:35
good at saving money oh yeah I'm not
43:41
paying for his college he is and that's you know I've said that to some people
43:47
where I've I said hey I told my kids a long time ago in there were a little I'm not paying for your college now of
43:52
course we're gonna help along the way right but he didn't need to know that at
43:58
the time and now he's he's got his money he's still putting the money away he's
44:05
got enough money to pay for his two years College and he's gonna get himself a nice laptop and and he's paying for it
44:13
all and and the great thing about that as we as adults know is that he can be
44:18
pretty proud of that when he graduates and say I did this right I only did this
44:25
and one of the one of the biggest things - about that Jason is gonna be that you're not gonna be in debt like 80% of
44:31
people that come out of college are right after they graduates they're yeah yes it's the same in UK as soon as I get
44:38
in I just pay it off and I won't have to worry about being broke exactly exactly
44:43
Jason has a job at the college oh yeah tell everybody about what you do there
44:50
Jay I work in the eSports arena I like people onto the computers and
44:56
they get to use them hourly it's like five bucks an hour and like four dollars an hour if you're a student and there's like 40 plus games
45:03
to play on there and I just usually sit behind the desk wait for people to come by and use the computers and I just
45:11
worked the devid machine so here you go pay me and then I like the mod pay me
45:17
does that include helping them to get started on the game yes and I can also
45:24
give them a bit of extra time if there are any updates need to get done or if they they have troubles I can we have a
45:31
whole bunch of controllers too if they prefer to use controllers they can bring in their own Mouse keyboards if they're
45:37
comfortable using their own tech and hardware and stuff so and the other
45:44
great thing about that is it looks good on a resume when you graduate that you
45:50
worked at the college in the field that he's going into which he's taking the
45:56
eSports an entrepreneurship program they have any sports arena it's the only one
46:02
in Canada or well at least in Ontario
46:09
especially working in the field because you see so many people that go to college because you know that's the way
46:15
that it's supposed to be and they go get like oh what's your degree and you know like Eastern Australian folk-art
46:20
okay i unless you're gonna work in eastern australia that degree is I hate to say it almost worthless yeah yeah yeah it's
46:30
a pretty cool place to be and and and like we started doing our we sort of
46:37
have a I'm not allowed to say partnership but a collaboration with the college and we started doing our live
46:46
streams at the eSports arena where I was there for the you know the big announcement of it all that kind of stuff so we began a relationship there
46:52
and Jason and I go in there every Thursday and and do a two-hour live stream broadcast playing video games and
47:00
actually the last couple he's done on his own because I've been busy and it sort of been he doesn't know this but
47:06
they'll probably figure it out one of my reasons for doing that was to get Jason
47:12
interacting more with other people like his age and make new friends that kind
47:18
of thing right and so going in there you know there's other people in an area that yeah
47:23
and then I left them alone a couple of times on purpose and so he now he
47:29
engages with other people and media beret bags just a lot of these games
47:38
that do tend to get competitive between the two of you between Jason and I yeah
47:45
yeah in a friendly sort yeah yeah yeah like he's way better at it than me I
47:53
mean there's no question is this what three hours of fortnight does to you
47:59
yeah yeah we're competitive that way but I mean in a fun way not really I'm
48:05
accident I'm insane a good way yeah I wasn't yeah right I said for me to as the dad it's it's so
48:14
you know I've taught Jason a lot of things in a live streaming world and and
48:19
but he teaches me to write like when we go into the eSports in an arena I play in the video games I can play em I mean
48:25
I get it right but that's his world and I changes me what I've had to teach you
48:33
not to chase people with us a rifle without using the scope yeah it
48:39
doesn't what it doesn't end well no aiming is really I mean it's it's
48:44
coming up I mean I live in Orlando Florida and they have one of the
48:50
Nationals to get to like the world of it's called dota I think is that is that a correct pronunciation Jason you may
48:57
know it better than I do it's one of those shoot games she likes shooting games but I mean that's eaten that one here they have like five man teams but I
49:03
mean they want a million dollars when they won here in Orlando is it dota 2 you're talking about a two that's it
49:09
yeah the game I know and they I mean
49:15
they sold out the arena and this is where the Orlando Magic play and there was about 35,000 people in there watching yeah in our Air Canada Centre
49:22
here in Toronto has had events there and it's like 30,000 people yeah slam video
49:29
game but yeah it's a trillion dollar industry right okay I'm just looking right now I'm not familiar with it I
49:37
just saw it and I was like wow that's cool like I kind of want to go check it out yeah yeah it's and you know Stephen
49:44
you made a good point and both Stephen and Eddie you know timing is everything and you know the way it's often succeed
49:53
is to place yourself ahead of a trend before it happens right you know and the timing of this live streaming is like it
50:01
was a time right when we said the Internet you think I've heard of that
50:07
right and then it was like oh yeah I've heard of that and now it's like at least in Canada or at least in Ontario anyway
50:16
the government has that go now they
50:21
label it or it's considered a mess a life necessity appliance all right Wow
50:28
so they're just gonna give it to you free then well but it's it does get it's
50:41
getting the government is funding some areas that rural areas that have trouble
50:46
getting it so it's it's kind of like a man you must provide that service now or
50:51
something I forget exactly so everybody lives in like Flynn flan is getting it for free I don't forget that for free but the
50:58
companies are I guess they're mandated to make it available very quick and yes
51:04
I do know where Flin Flon is that's why I brought it up mannitol we see we say
51:09
Timbuktu yeah Flin Flon Manitoba it's up there Flin Flon Manitoba never that's
51:16
cool I guess I'm gonna have to google that one hadn't been discovered yet but it's there so yeah so Jason's really in
51:24
and I don't even think he realizes just the importance of where he's positioned
51:31
right now for success and just being at the right place at the right time and
51:37
the opportunities that are available even for myself and the eSports world I've been working on more and more
51:44
collaborating with others to be the announcer for these things all right be
51:50
the sports guy you bring the tech into or is it just you as a an MC for lack of
51:56
a better term do I bring the tech in well I do you bring all the gear into livestream for these guys or do you just
52:02
come in as a pure ring that oh oh at that college oh no it's all in there
52:07
they use OBS oh that's - is I've been using OBS for a couple years
52:13
Jason's familiar with it was familiar with it but now I've been teaching them OBS and that on agreement yeah we teach
52:21
each other that's and that's the people he's working on right now is how do you
52:27
do OBS and guess what they're teaching at the college OBS so maybe being gonna
52:34
be ahead of the game when he walks into that classroom which like a full demit gives them the opportunity to be a
52:39
leader as well and help others and who knows you graduate you can be like an adjunct professor yeah yeah and it's
52:46
they're already talking about other programs so kudos right now so you're
52:52
pretty you're Jason you're you're signed up for big and great things buddy yeah
53:00
I'm looking forward to it I see the reason I asked that David it wasn't just an off the law question is I
53:05
see a lot of people reaching out to me now because I have all the gear and all the tech and they just don't have the time or the resources to go do it
53:12
so they're actually just bringing me in to shoot all of their video be it livestream or edited because I just
53:18
simply have all the gear in one place I can just show up shoot it and leave yeah yeah I do a lot of that to videography
53:24
work yeah iPhone videography or whatever and and Jason does that too and yeah it's I it's
53:32
kind of funny in Elka's like school I even go back to like switcher studio and Kevin Jack if he happens to be out there
53:39
listening these either listening or he's taking care of his daughter never know where he is but you know it's an iPad
53:48
and then iPhones are the cameras right right exactly what somebody sees you using that sometimes I go oh oh it's
53:54
just an iPad oh that all of it like have a derp man because there's way more to
54:00
it than just took those yep I've using be live that way and you you can it's a
54:07
little not tricky but it's a little more in depth and switcher is but I work with
54:12
a guy that I used to go to high school with who played in the NFL and he livestreams his camps for kids that live
54:19
at a district or whatever and I bring in my iPad and that's where I start the be life from and I have three mobile phones
54:25
so we have three separate cameras if you will set up all around the complex and you know just like you said everybody's
54:31
looking at it like you're just doing this on an iPad I can do it I'm like okay cool go do it you start be live on
54:38
an iPad yeah I don't know you could do that I can I just go to Safari and go to
54:45
belived on TV and it works fine seriously yes seriously Eddie never said that that never
54:52
happened this is official yeah sorry alright no you're okay
54:57
we hope you watch this for anything can blow my dad's mind at this point nobody watches this show I mean it's just I'm
55:03
going on the internet I'm not starting it from the app oh I just go to a
55:10
regular I just go to you know me I'm not my lips are sealed I'm not saying
55:15
to anybody because I've never said that I've done that before publicly is it basically the problem is that as France
55:22
belie we're concerned you would want to have the technology ready thirdly Facebook do change their mind you can
55:29
say to everybody right go on to the browser on your tablet and it will work okay and a few of us discovered it and
55:36
he included by accident and I've been sworn to secrecy so allegedly I love
55:44
that word allegedly I mean it's as far
55:50
as Bolivia concerned it is against the terms and conditions from Facebook yeah so we don't really see conditions which
55:57
is which is funny because I can do it from a laptop what's the difference it's basically Facebook saying that you
56:04
cannot create a multi-person broadcast from a mobile if you are a facebook developer right and the API Terms and
56:12
Conditions say that you cannot have more than one person on screen that's to preserve a Facebook yeah is it you can't
56:21
you can't have more than one person one screen I mean we have for now no sorry this is this is desktop oh okay oh okay
56:30
so who's hosting from you your iPad or your Android tablet does not officially
56:36
exist right well lovely weather we're having it's nice here in Orlando it's
56:42
ninety one night right at this time for an update on the thing on the live video
56:49
hub since being an idea two weeks ago there are no ten live shows on there
56:56
today and we didn't make it we you know set things up and hope that you actually
57:02
be there but somebody asked me went live before we did David so we weren't on there today oh there are no 91
57:09
broadcasters or broadcasting on the live video of all using be live TV from their
57:16
desktops three maybe for an hour they're
57:24
a high quality quality no it's but basically it's
57:29
just push in and push in know what what's your process though Stephen leicht I see some shows out there and I
57:38
go I don't want that on my network that's because you use your network you
57:45
decide you're the Quality Controller yeah you do but do you do that or you just are you just putting whoever wants
57:52
to be on around there well if it's legal on Facebook it's legal on Facebook but
57:58
there is so there is a filter there yes yeah I mean basically what happens is
58:04
that people put their facebook business page address in I go and have a look then I come back and actually set up the
58:11
cross post link invite them to join and then give them the magic information to
58:19
do it so you've been you've been busy reaching out to people oh yeah I'm committed to this this is an instance
58:26
every man I have a blinding idea and just go with it last year was be live in five yep and
58:33
the udemy courses and this year is the live video hub yeah it's fantastic yeah
58:39
I've got to put more effort into but see for me it's a it's while we're doing the
58:45
same thing it's a little bit different because T vs n is a brand right oh yeah it represents certain things music
58:54
events and community so I mean I've seen some things out there being used but be like oh and I'm like I don't want that
58:59
topic whatever so and like so Eddie
59:06
you're you're that's fantastic go Steven you've got that man I think that's I I'm
59:11
not surprised that it took off for you because you come up with these ideas and you you always put both feet in the water and go and that's just a huge
59:20
benefit to it's like an added feature to be live no you don't have to be well I
59:29
mean the thing is from a viewer point of view until now you'd not be able to find the be live show and if you wanted to
59:35
now we're getting people to broadcast on the same page so you can actually find
59:40
people but alive and it will eventually so the equivalent to his television channel yeah I mean insofar as it will
59:49
be broadcasting from early morte well from about 9:00 in the morning till midnight that's the general plan so
59:57
we're not live there because we've just gone live because somebody else was live
1:00:02
at 12:00 p.m. Eastern also you can't have to live at the same time no no we
1:00:09
discovered that was only as we go along and Joshua Bergland was live dropping
1:00:17
recent to today he won the slot and then
1:00:23
when somebody like when he dropped off does the next show and the show you just go right and replace it yeah with we
1:00:30
live there now okay and we'll stay alive until until we finish and then it's
1:00:41
probably way down where is it wouldn't with a main video at the moment and
1:00:48
we've just been replaced yeah Cheryl's just gone live Olivia yeah that's
1:00:56
chilled Piper and we're gonna disappear shortly that's Charleston so so I could so you
1:01:03
don't mind me reaching out to these same people yeah that's all I mean what we do
1:01:09
we do know is that cross-posting live works yeah that's the beauty of it that this
1:01:15
there's the hub which is sort of everybody and then there are private
1:01:22
arrangements between broadcasters which are benefit both sides it's a win-win there's no way to lose at this and you
1:01:28
can choose who you want to cross post with and go live according to whatever
1:01:34
else you decided yeah yeah so that's fantastic more exposure the better all
1:01:41
the way around for everybody that's right yeah I mean the key is to find people who got presents you know I mean
1:01:48
if we could all get on Jeff Adams page then it would be singing and dancing come on
1:01:54
on Thursday actually brilliant yep I'm jealous no he reached out to me and he was like
1:02:02
hey you're a solopreneur you're doing this you know do you have any tactics that you use for people that are just coming up to and he was like and where
1:02:08
he's calling it the lone wolf episode of live positive oh that's cool I mean
1:02:14
we're gonna be discussing the the peril the advantages and the you know the little drawbacks that it is to working
1:02:19
by yourself cuz I'm a one-man show I I do everything well we're over time here
1:02:27
and I gotta move on to and I gotta make sure the Bo Y is doing his work like he's supposed to because I see two
1:02:34
different head moves like we put you back in that wall Jason it's been a pleasure to meet you and every future
1:02:42
success yep nice to meet you Jason I sent you I sent you a friend request and
1:02:47
