0:30
today i am welcoming ann collins to the
0:33
anne's education is from life and from
0:36
the ohio state university she has
0:38
professional experience
0:40
management sales marketing development
0:44
in fact in 2016 anne ran from the
0:47
road monroe county indiana treasurer
0:51
anne enjoys writing however it doesn't
0:53
come easy her book began as a journaling
0:55
exercise towards healing when she lost
0:58
campaign and knows that the power of
1:00
writing has given her hope through loss
1:02
and she encourages her readers to engage
1:05
in journaling as a way to express
1:07
subconscious feelings and ultimately
1:09
work through the difficult spots
1:11
in their lives recently married and i
1:14
like a month ago uh she now has seven
1:20
four grandchildren so without further
1:22
ado welcome to the show
1:27
so one month ago you got married and you
1:31
lots of kids you have a wonderful hubby
1:33
who i know is sitting right there with
1:34
so we just say hi to barry i'm glad that
1:40
um today our conversation is on your
1:43
loss in courage i love the name and i
1:47
how you actually named the book about
1:50
what you went through in order to um go
1:54
through that situation of not winning
1:56
the election so first let's just start
1:57
from the beginning tell us a little bit
2:00
your background and how you came to be
2:04
well like you said in the introduction
2:08
a lot of different things and kind of a
2:15
but i've always i've always been a very
2:19
and i love to encourage people i love to
2:23
help them and that's where the writing
2:26
and the book came from
2:28
and writing is new to me but i
2:32
so enjoy it so especially when you see
2:34
that face of on someone
2:37
that smile or eye contact that happens
2:41
and and it's always fun to also see your
2:43
book in the bookstore or on
2:45
online right i'm a public author
2:48
which is great so i normally like to ask
2:50
my authors how long you've been writing
2:52
but clearly you have not been writing
2:53
that long in fact this is your first
2:55
book and it just came out
2:57
so how long ago did you start on this
3:00
well i started thinking about writing i
3:04
thinking uh after the election
3:07
uh in 2016 it takes me a while like i
3:11
mentioned in the book
3:12
there was a lot there that i had
3:16
kind of worked through um
3:19
but when i started to think about what i
3:23
and how i learned a different way of
3:26
just trying to look at myself
3:28
more positively i knew other people
3:32
too so let's talk about what the book is
3:35
about what will people read when they
3:37
open up your book and the inspiration i
3:40
know is from the election but i'm sure
3:41
it wasn't just the election you pulled
3:43
from all facets of your life so what's
3:51
a struggle and maybe something that you
3:55
know you are going to win you're going
4:01
you and then you don't your face
4:04
and that's what the book's about and how
4:08
i learned to look not at
4:12
the actual falling on the face but to
4:15
look at all of the the experiences
4:19
that led to that day where i fell on my
4:23
and that's how i figured out
4:27
each one of those experiences
4:30
actually was a win because i met
4:34
i encouraged somebody i learned
4:38
all kinds of things and i think the
4:40
message because you've said it now
4:42
several times already in in the short
4:44
time that we've been talking
4:45
you fell on your face you fell on your
4:49
would it be fair to say that the message
4:52
even if you fall on your face yes
4:56
there is there is hope and there is a
4:59
out of that is that your inspiration is
5:01
to be able to help people
5:03
yes it is because i think obviously the
5:06
older you get the more experiences you
5:09
you realize that experiences are
5:12
very valuable whether they were pleasant
5:16
because you've met somebody you've
5:19
something you've experienced an emotion
5:23
and all that stuff is for us to grow and
5:27
and i just want to help people
5:32
kind of look at the positive side of
5:33
some of the things that aren't so
5:36
and i think that's so important um in in
5:39
in every day and every time but
5:41
especially in this time i think that's
5:44
important you say that winning is
5:47
in everything you consider to defeat and
5:50
using these to move forward would this
5:57
uh my book is not a political book but i
6:00
it's actually uh would be a good
6:04
encourager just because of you know
6:07
life in general the world with covid
6:10
we have to kind of look at things
6:12
differently and and find the value
6:15
we do so we were talking about using our
6:23
take care of the defeats right that
6:24
we're finding the wins
6:26
in everything that we considered a dif
6:29
if you're just tuning in we're talking
6:31
to ann collins about her book
6:33
hope loss encouraged so obviously we've
6:37
already talked about hope loss and
6:39
is that what where did you come up with
6:40
this title it's a really great title
6:43
well thank you um i think
6:47
we all need a little hope and i
6:50
the word lost is because every human
6:54
on the face of this earth is going to go
6:58
you can get through life without it and
7:01
encourage with the emphasis
7:04
on courage because you need to encourage
7:08
others based on what you've learned in
7:12
sometimes it takes a lot of courage to
7:16
stand up and keep going absolutely
7:20
absolutely um what do you hope
7:23
your readers are going to take away from
7:27
well i think it's it's more than just a
7:31
interesting read it's a short read i
7:33
think there's some humor into it
7:36
um so it's it's a fun read
7:39
but i hope these they can see throughout
7:42
the process of you know and it could
7:45
have been something that happened
7:47
a week ago or five years ago but
7:50
how you can actually process that
7:52
experience in your mindset
7:55
and look at that loss or
7:58
failure or mistake and actually find a
8:05
i am only one but i am
8:09
one what does that mean
8:12
well i think a lot of us use
8:15
i am only one person and use that as an
8:19
an excuse well i can't
8:22
cure cancer or i can't feed the entire
8:26
world so i shouldn't do anything because
8:30
right um but it really does because
8:33
i can influence one person feed one
8:38
uh you know help one person
8:41
and that changes the world it does
8:45
it really does and it sounds like that's
8:47
something that's really important to you
8:49
that you do want to change the world so
8:51
the question begs to be asked are you
8:53
going to run for office again
8:55
no and i hear your your husband in the
9:01
not not going to do that at all
9:04
i ran in 2016 and then i ran again in
9:07
2018 for another position
9:10
and um and i lost that one also
9:13
so i think i will just add to the
9:17
the world and the environment a
9:20
hey that's fair that that's totally fair
9:23
if you're tuning in and you want to know
9:24
a little bit more about this book
9:26
hope loss encourage that is the name of
9:29
the book you can see it on the screen
9:31
and i've just put a link to the book in
9:34
uh for you to go pick up a copy because
9:36
i think that this is really i love first
9:39
the subtitle scenes from life's wins
9:41
that's exactly what you're talking about
9:44
um and i think this is important for all
9:46
of us i i don't think that there's a
9:48
single person on this planet that has
9:50
not had a defeat in something
9:52
and i think the trick is to figure out
9:56
how to turn it around and make it a win
9:58
and and it sounds like that is exactly
10:01
with this book why do you do what you do
10:05
i mean why did you run for office why
10:08
did you just i mean i know why you
10:09
decided to write a book it took you
10:10
through your journey but
10:12
why are you doing what you're doing are
10:14
you going to write another book
10:17
yes uh it's actually about done so book
10:21
number two will be out soon
10:23
um i do what i do because
10:28
again we're all on this earth for a
10:30
short period of time
10:31
and i want to make that time
10:35
memorable i i want to help others
10:40
if i can encourage people that makes me
10:44
and then i know my life made a
10:48
so is writing books for everyone what
10:50
would you tell someone if they'd said
10:52
you know i had this thing going on and i
10:54
think this makes sense for me i'm going
10:56
to write a book what would you tell
10:57
somebody who wants to go write a book
11:00
i'd say get started and do it
11:02
for several reasons uh through
11:06
and writing this first book that's what
11:10
showed me that writing is powerful and i
11:15
or at least i didn't know before i did
11:18
writing is very powerful um
11:22
emotional mentoring cathartic maybe
11:26
yes and it's actually somewhat physical
11:29
i've noticed when i've gone back into my
11:33
there you could actually see how hard i
11:37
usually when i was upset or angry
11:40
about something but you literally can
11:44
see the difference of the pressure of
11:46
on the journals so if you want to write
11:50
get started now because it may take
11:54
six weeks it may take six years but
11:57
it's valuable time for yourself
12:00
because you are very important
12:02
absolutely absolutely well
12:04
i think that's great i think it's great
12:06
before the show went live i said to you
12:08
um do you have a superpower and i
12:11
i grab my little you know my little uh
12:16
and my super power is i'm fearless i
12:18
will do almost anything
12:19
just just ask what's your superpower
12:25
oh so uh you cut out just a little bit
12:29
but um i would say my uh superpower
12:32
is to encourage and that's not only
12:37
that's encouraging others and
12:40
doing all i can that way so buck says
12:43
nice twist to the title he loved the
12:45
title one of the hardest things is to
12:47
find the courage to move forward after
12:48
any type of loss thank you
12:52
thank you for the comment would you
12:56
vegan because as i say in the book there
12:59
there was a short time where i just i
13:01
didn't want to come out
13:04
i'm sure i you know i i i never run for
13:07
office i've never done
13:08
any of that kind of stuff but there have
13:10
been times i'm a singer where
13:12
i've done something and and afterwards
13:16
it was no good it was not good but
13:17
enough you have to find a way to come
13:19
back out of it and you have to
13:21
just uh put that smile and and and and
13:24
move forward right and and do it again
13:26
get back on that so you did run again
13:28
but instead of but instead of running a
13:30
third time now you're just going to keep
13:33
which i think is awesome which i think
13:36
for those of you who are wondering how
13:39
with anne we're going to give you some
13:41
uh places to go because she's everywhere
13:43
you can go visit anne on her website at
13:46
author anne authorannecollins.com
13:48
uh she's also on facebook and you can
13:50
find her on facebook at
13:52
author anne collins and
13:55
she's also on youtube at ann collins
13:59
imagine that and on instagram you can
14:02
also find her there at
14:03
author ann collins and finally on
14:05
linkedin if you go to
14:06
linkedin it's and dash collins
14:10
so what's one tip that you can share
14:12
that comes out of your life that has
14:14
really made a difference in your life
14:15
that you can share with our audience
14:17
what's a tip you can share
14:19
um the one tip i would tell people is
14:22
to take that time with themselves
14:27
uh doesn't have to be a quiet space it
14:31
don't be closing your eyes while you're
14:37
i i think it's uh mentally emotionally
14:41
and as a as the mindset
14:45
you can look at something that didn't
14:47
work out and really find the value in it
14:50
and then life is a little different
14:54
i've fallen on my face so many times now
14:56
that i'm really not afraid of it anymore
14:59
um interesting and is that what you
15:03
will happen when people just kind of you
15:05
know step into that and step into their
15:07
their their wins from their defeats yes
15:10
i mean even like a bad day at the shop
15:13
i will maybe not be in the best
15:16
mood but i will look at that day and say
15:20
this is an experience i am going to meet
15:22
someone i am learning something
15:25
and so it just makes it easier to get
15:29
through the day get through the day
15:31
and just know that there is a win from
15:35
i i love that um again i'm going to put
15:38
the book right back into the screen one
15:40
time so people can go get a copy of it
15:43
scenes from life's wins by ann collins
15:46
link is sitting in the uh comment area
15:50

15:52

16:06
book i have it on order actually
16:08

16:12
any last minute thoughts you want to
16:13
share with everyone before we say
16:17
um just uh step back and look at your
16:22
find find the beauty in it because it's
16:25
it is it is definitely there i want to
