0:00
are you a phenomena woman we talk about
0:04
this and more on this episode of the
0:07
little white lie hello everyone karen
0:09
Glasser here and welcome to the little
0:12
white lie this is the show all about the
0:14
lies that we tell ourselves as we get
0:17
older if you have a little white lie
0:19
we'd love to hear about it post it in
0:21
the comments if you're here on replay
0:23
we're thrilled make sure you let us know
0:25
that you're here and we will respond
0:26
back to you and if you aren't here live
0:28
even better make a comment share it out
0:31
to your friends let people know that you
0:34
are here on the little white lies shows
0:36
my little white lie is my white hair I
0:40
thought that people who had white or
0:42
gray hair weren't gonna get jobs in the
0:45
marketplace and after 30 years of
0:46
coloring my hair I thought no more I'm
0:48
gonna show up as my authentic self so
0:50
let me expose my little white lie and as
0:55
you can see I'm almost like a hundred
0:56
percent grown out pretty cool I love it
0:58
hey Joey so today we're asking the
1:03
question are you a phenomena woman and
1:06
our special guest is Kim Sonntag mulder
1:09
Kim as a native San Diego and a social
1:12
media manager she is the founder of
1:14
method works a woman owned social media
1:17
management agency and and most
1:20
importantly today she's the president of
1:21
San Diego Nell and VP of programs for
1:24
California now so without further ado
1:26
let me bring Kim into the show hey Kim
1:30
how you doing I am great how are you
1:33
I am so awesome it ought to be it's in
1:36
truly real note that you're here I'm
1:39
totally thrilled that you're here and we
1:41
always like to start the show by asking
1:43
our guests what's your little white lie
1:44
so what's your little white lie well it
1:48
was really difficult for me to come up
1:50
with this because I lived my life as my
1:52
authentic self already but my little
1:55
white lie is I am really a redhead so
1:59
that is it okay I did not expect that
2:04
did it I have not been a redhead since I
2:07
got married four years ago today
2:12
and I'm going back to it so I am a real
2:15
redhead yeah I love that well I can't
2:17
wait to see the transition I can't wait
2:19
to see him as a redhead when you go back
2:22
you know the topic today is are you a
2:24
phenomenal woman so let's just talk a
2:26
little bit about that but Naaman now I
2:28
love the way that sounds I love the way
2:29
it rolls off the tongue but it's
2:31
actually a name that you came up with
2:33
why because it has to do with what yes
2:35
it has everything to do it now being the
2:39
president of San Diego now we started
2:41
doing an annual event and one of our
2:44
board members came up with phenomena and
2:47
it made perfect sense and we've held on
2:50
to it ever since and so we still hang on
2:53
to the tagline phenomenal women I love
2:57
it now the National Organization for
2:58
Women that is that is a national
3:00
organization but there's a there's
3:02
chapters in all the states as well as
3:04
smaller chapters right within the states
3:06
yes yeah and you are with San Diego
3:09
specifically but you also work with the
3:11
California went for Pope yes I do so
3:14
California has 14 chapters within the
3:17
state itself I sit on the Executive
3:20
Board for California now as well as
3:22
being the current president of the San
3:25
Diego Chapter of now so let's let's talk
3:28
a little bit about the mission of now
3:31
and you know why women might want to
3:33
consider that this is now the time to
3:35
join now it has always been the time to
3:40
join now now is one of the largest and
3:43
oldest women feminists function
3:47
organizations in the United States the
3:49
original National Organization was
3:53
established in 1969 and the San Diego
3:57
Chapter just as a side note how was the
3:59
service in 1970 and so this chapter has
4:02
been functioning for a very long time we
4:04
have almost 500 members in our chapter
4:07
alone in the state of California we have
4:10
over 19,000 members so if it's a
4:16
movement it's an organization that every
4:18
woman should really consider being a
4:20
part of we have a legacy of being very
4:25
grassroots oriented and very
4:27
intersectional so I just put up in the
4:30
scroll so people can see where they
4:31
might want to go join I just joined
4:33
recently I'm a new proud member of
4:35
California now and I just put a link
4:38
that's scrolling it's bit dot Li for it
4:40
slash Cal now all in caps it's only
4:42
forty dollars a year I mean it's it's
4:44
it's affordable guys and there's a big
4:47
conference that's happening for the very
4:49
first time in California in San Jose
4:50
right yes so the National Organization
4:53
has not held a conference in California
4:56
for twenty years which is really hard to
4:59
believe considering that we're one of
5:01
the largest states with the largest set
5:03
of chapters so they're coming back and
5:05
they will be here on July 6th through
5:08
the 8th on July 9th California State
5:12
Chapter is having their conference so
5:15
it's a whole weekend packed full of
5:17
organization feminism and teaching women
5:21
how to get involved with our
5:22
organization and I'm gonna be there I
5:24
know you're gonna be there it's gonna be
5:26
an amazing yes amazing event so tell me
5:30
why you do this what's your why I mean
5:31
why didn't you get involved in helping
5:33
women like this so when you ask me what
5:36
my why was which is really funny because
5:38
I just gone shopping that day and I was
5:40
buying razors and I was so bent out of
5:42
shape knowing that I had to buy razors
5:44
cuz I shaved my legs like some women and
5:46
I'm looking at the four pack and it's
5:49
$29 and I started a year ago using a
5:53
brand another brand that is a mens brand
5:56
and they're only $6.99 and that is my
6:00
why because why are women charged
6:03
quadruple for products that are the same
6:07
as men but ours are pink and yellow
6:10
which are really pretty as opposed to
6:12
green and blue which I don't really care
6:14
about when I'm shaving my legs and it
6:17
goes deeper than that it's not just
6:18
products it's services go to the dry
6:20
cleaners everything nice and fresh for a
6:23
woman you're gonna pay three times the
6:24
amount than you pay for boy we could get
6:26
at our soap box on this couldn't me holy
6:28
holy I mean it could go on for days we
6:31
all got to go on a rampage with the
6:33
tampon tax is like Oh
6:35
the world of knowing that we are charged
6:38
attacks for feminine hygiene products
6:41
that and yeah I mean there's a little
6:44
less yeah that is that's the great way
6:45
so so do have a tip that you want to
6:48
share with our our viewers right now um
6:52
for the most part I just try to look I
6:56
walk my talk it's one of the things that
6:58
I definitely live by I strive to be
7:03
authentic I ask all women to be
7:05
authentic support each other hold each
7:09
other up stop tearing us apart we are
7:12
our worst enemies so once we all
7:14
starting our man arm and stop talking
7:17
about being arm and arm actually do it
7:19
we will get to where we need me oh my
7:22
gosh those are such important words
7:24
thank you so much for sharing that you
7:26
know I know that you have an upcoming
7:28
event within the next I think week and a
7:30
half and so let's talk a little bit
7:32
about that and I'm gonna put a link up
7:34
that people can come join so if you're
7:36
down at San Diego I and I know that it's
7:38
almost sold out right yes it is and some
7:41
of us hold up so if it wasn't sold out
7:45
or it wasn't almost sold out what would
7:48
they be doing here at the event so the
7:51
phenomenon women event is an is an
7:53
annual fundraiser that we started for
7:55
our chapter alone and what we tried to
7:58
do is bring a cross-section of women to
8:02
our organization here in San Diego this
8:04
year we're very proud to support and
8:07
bring in Tony Van Pelt who is the
8:09
national presence of the Organization
8:11
for Women it's unusual for her to show
8:15
up at a small event like this but we're
8:17
very proud to have her with us the
8:20
current Senator Pro Tem Tony Atkins
8:23
first female first lesbian to hold that
8:26
position in California is a long time
8:28
now member and she will be joining us
8:31
again this year and then we also have
8:33
sarab's who is running for the 49th
8:36
congressional district seat which is a
8:38
huge flip seat if we could flip that
8:41
over and that would be totally awesome
8:43
I've been seeing those commercials I've
8:44
been hind I know it's awesome so
8:47
the point of our event is to bring our
8:50
chapter members to bring new women into
8:52
the fold so they can see what we're
8:55
doing who they can meet who they can
8:57
interact with and actually visualize the
9:00
change in the action that we're taking
9:02
so you would you say this is a great
9:05
event for women who want to maybe dip
9:06
their toe in see what this is all about
9:08
you know a lot of women and I know it's
9:11
almost sold out there are a few spots
9:13
and truly we're not just blowing smoke
9:15
right now it really is almost sold out
9:17
we actually planned on doing this
9:19
interview before it was filled out but
9:21
filled up so we're still doing it and
9:23
and go ahead you're still a few tickets
9:26
left and I think this is a great
9:27
opportunity for women to really step in
9:30
and and yeah spread their wings so to
9:33
speak yeah so tell us the fact that what
9:37
the people might not know about you
9:38
something fun um so I shared with you
9:42
I'm learning how to knit which is just
9:45
an old-fashioned sort of thing but I've
9:47
always wanted to and I have a woman who
9:50
lives across with me straight for me who
9:52
I'm absolutely dear - she is my Jewish
9:55
mother and she's teaching me how to knit
9:57
and it's a crazy thing so everyone don't
9:59
tell anybody but everyone is getting
10:01
scarves for Christmas and that's my
10:03
thing right now but right now it's
10:04
really ugly and I haven't mastered it
10:06
but I will and when I do you got it I'll
10:11
send you a picture when I finally
10:12
mastered just like the midden point I
10:17
think that's great I'm sure people are
10:19
wondering how to connect with you I'm
10:21
gonna put some of your contact
10:22
information up your website people can
10:24
go to San Diego now org it's on org you
10:28
can go check out the Facebook group at
10:29
San Diego area now you can also check
10:33
out Twitter at San Diego area now and
10:35
then also Instagram San Diego San Diego
10:39
area now easy for me to say apparently
10:41
not any last thoughts you want to share
10:46
with the audience about now and about
10:49
the organization and and just you know
10:52
talking to the people that are watching
10:54
now and even on replay absolutely don't
10:57
be afraid put your fear aside if you've
11:01
with a group of like-minded women and
11:03
there are some men involved in our
11:04
organization but if you're looking for
11:06
that niche of where you can go to feel
11:09
included to make a difference join now
11:14
join the National Organization for Women
11:15
we have been here for years we're well
11:18
established we know what we're doing
11:20
that's great that's great and I want to
11:23
thank you for taking time out of your
11:24
busy day I know you're getting ready for
11:26
this event to join us today and I
11:29
encourage all of our viewers to go check
11:31
it out check out the I'm gonna put the
11:33
links in in the the comments as well so
11:35

11:37

11:40
