1:49
I love that question are you too old to
1:51
feel great and I especially love one of
1:54
my really really good friend she's
1:55
joining us today cam castle she is a
1:57
creative strategist and founder of life
2:00
licious she's a former stand-up comedian
2:02
I mean I want you to take notes because
2:04
this woman has done it all a stand-up
2:06
comedian a TV host a writer in a
2:09
winning art director her wit and wisdom
2:11
has been featured on CNN Headline News
2:14
Fox Business News yahoo small business
2:17
and countless books and magazines she's
2:20

2:22
work for General Motors and was
2:24
nominated for the Los Angeles woman
2:27
making a difference award but wait
2:30
there's more recently she completed a
2:32
development deal with ABC television to
2:35
create a healthy lifestyle programming
2:38
Kim is leading the way for busy women to
2:40
live well and without further ado I'm
2:43
going to bring Kim in how are you today
2:45
Kim I am feeling great today Taryn how
2:48
are you today I am so awesome it ought
2:51
to be a sin I am so happy that you're
2:53
here today we've been talking about the
2:55
show for a while and I love the topic
2:57
and who better than you to be talking
2:59
about this topic about feeling great and
3:01
we're gonna get into it in just one
3:02
minute but I like to be able to ask my
3:04
guests before we actually dive in what
3:06
is your little white lie oh I tell a lot
3:12
myself but I would have to say I'd say
3:17
the biggest little white lie would be
3:20
about wrinkles I have that's I've always
3:24
had this thing about wrinkles and I
3:26
remember years and years ago like
3:29
decades ago when my husband my my then
3:33
boyfriend now husband one of the very
3:35
first things I asked him to buy me for
3:37
Christmas was this D $50 dior capsule of
3:41
like like serum for wrinkles I was 22
3:45
years old 22 like I have no wrinkles so
3:49
I would say if there's a lot it's about
3:51
it's about more some reason but that's
3:55
you know what thank you for being so
3:57
vulnerable because I'm sure you are not
3:59
the only one that worries about wrinkles
4:01
hello I mean I'm sure okay by a raise of
4:04
hands out there in the comments just let
4:06
us know are you worried about Winker
4:08
let's just put it in the comments you
4:09
worried about wrinkle let us know but
4:11
we're gonna move on to the question and
4:13
that is are we really too old to feel
4:15
great so Kim I mean you have it really a
4:17
very interesting journey that you went
4:21
which is why you are uniquely qualified
4:23
to answer this question are we really
4:26
too old if you have great tell us about
4:28
what happened um yeah you know it's
4:30
interesting when you get older and you
4:33
start to feel not-so-fresh feeling where
4:36
you you don't quite feel like you have
4:39
everything and you talk to an older
4:41
person and they go oh you a thing or
4:43
this or that and they go oh that's just
4:45
a part of getting older and that I don't
4:49
understand like where why that just got
4:52
passed down like an heirloom that you
4:55
you're supposed to feel like crap and
4:56
talk about cialis or drugs anyway if you
4:59
get older um for me I've always been a
5:03
go go go you know overcome physical
5:06
limits push push push
5:08
since I was seven I used to when I was
5:11
young I was really sick I had a speech
5:13
impediment people couldn't hear me
5:15
I couldn't understand what I said I had
5:18
asthma I was allergic to the city of
5:20
Miami where I grew up and at a very
5:22
early age I said I wasn't going to
5:24
accept that limit and I threw myself
5:26
into being a synchronized swimmer and
5:28
spent a lot of time underwater and in a
5:32
year I was in the Junior Olympics and I
5:34
cured myself of asthma so I've always
5:36
been a push push push until a few years
5:40
ago you know as a as you said I was an
5:44
art director or speaker I created the
5:46
program brand-new and all of a sudden a
5:49
very outgoing love life love people and
5:52
all of a sudden I found myself sitting
5:54
in the dark like just sitting in the
5:57
dark and I couldn't take the sound of TV
6:00
I couldn't take people talking I
6:02
couldn't be around people which is not a
6:05
good thing if you're a speaker right and
6:06
I couldn't figure out what was wrong
6:10
with me I was depressed all the time you
6:13
know as an athlete I was conditioned to
6:14
work out all the time I thought um robux
6:16
for 15 years but I would wake up in the
6:19
morning and I would cry putting my
6:20
sneakers on and I couldn't work out and
6:23
then I literally had nothing and I was
6:28
quite frankly suicidal well I wouldn't
6:31
tell people hey hi I'm Kay
6:34
I'm suicidal but I would I could be
6:38
driving on the highway and all of a
6:40
sudden a thought would go through my
6:41
head I wonder what would happen if I
6:43
Drive off this overpass that's got to be
6:46
really scary I mean I can't even imagine
6:48
having those thoughts and and being in
6:51
that place but you did discover what was
6:53
going on right oh yeah yeah I had I have
6:57
what I call type a disease you know like
7:00
that go go go go go right fall down give
7:02
me a moment I'll get right back up thank
7:05
you be fine I'm fine but it turned out I
7:08
had deep adrenal insufficiency or what
7:11
people would called adrenal fatigue
7:12
I had hyper thyroid and I probably have
7:15
had a hat I probably had these things
7:17
for over 15 years but I'm such a type-a
7:20
so driven that I would keep going I had
7:23
metabolic issues I had gut issues every
7:26
afternoon I'd swell up to like I was
7:28
three months pregnant I had Candida
7:30
I had infections and all because I had
7:35
for myself out right I call it like I
7:37
borrowed fuel from my future because all
7:40
of my chemicals were like nothing but
7:45
you persevered and you you found the
7:48
right people to support you and to help
7:50
you and and as we fast forward to
7:53
everything that you've done here you are
7:55
and I know you're not suicidal now in
7:57
fact you are thriving
7:59
you got out of LA and you move to
8:01
beautiful Colorado right yeah and I'm
8:05
actually gonna put you on solo for a
8:06
second because I want everyone to see
8:07
this gorgeous kitchen that is behind you
8:10
because you actually created this new
8:14
beautiful thing called life alicia's and
8:17
let's talk about that for a while what
8:19
is that and how does that fit into this
8:21
whole thing about being too old to feel
8:23
great yeah yeah I definitely found
8:25
support I mean I think for me the
8:28
challenge was that just admitting
8:29
something was wrong right because I'm
8:33
you know I don't want to admit there's a
8:34
weakness but I did find out and I got
8:37
out some support of an integrative
8:39
doctor but I think the biggest thing
8:42
that was the Savior for me
8:43
was I didn't accept feeling that yes
8:47
than wrong but I went no I am still
8:50
alive I'm choosing to be alive this this
8:53
planet is beautiful life is beautiful
8:55
and I want to feel not just good but I
8:58
want to feel great so I made that choice
9:00
that was the first thing is I didn't
9:02
accept that you know feeling getting
9:04
older as a part of you know you feeling
9:06
crappy they were getting feeling crappy
9:08
as a part of getting older right
9:10
so that's the first thing I decided was
9:12
I'm gonna feel great and I'm willing to
9:14
do whatever it takes to feel great and
9:18
so that meant change my diet change how
9:21
I showed up as a type a you know Go Go
9:25
Go woman I had to completely shift I had
9:28
to understand what estrogen does the
9:31
powers of estrogen and how living in
9:34
testosterone or you know that adrenal
9:36
fatigue how that actually makes us feel
9:38
like crap and life alicia's was really
9:42
it was started as a way to share my
9:45
journey because I know I'm not the only
9:46
woman that felt like that or feels like
9:49
that and is wondering what happened to
9:51
the me that I used to know know and so
9:55
now life alysha's has evolved I mean I
9:57
say the biggest shift that happened
9:59
besides you know getting that support
10:01
and getting more fuels of like the fluid
10:03
back like my adrenals are up my cortisol
10:06
up Sarah tones back up was really
10:09
changing my relationship with food Wow
10:12
and so life alicia's is now about really
10:15
understanding how to be vital with food
10:18
I love I'm gonna actually put that up on
10:21
the screen you change your changing your
10:23
relationship with food I'm gonna put
10:27
that up there because that's that as
10:28
such that's probably says it all right
10:30
there changing our relationship with
10:32
food and we have several people that
10:33
were actually making comments first of
10:35
all April wants you to know that never
10:37
mind the gorgeous kitchen you are
10:39
glowing writing your kitchen
10:43
Thank You April and we arguing I'll need
10:46
an April in our life we all need a name
10:48
okay so I have a couple there you go and
10:52
that's that delicious drink by the way I
10:54
have a question for you so okay I I know
10:57
I'm looking at the comments that are
10:58
actually flying in here right
11:00
now and and there they're wondering you
11:04
know how to start how what do you
11:06
suggest for all of us women out there
11:08
and to for just go go going type-a
11:11
personalities and something is not right
11:14
where do they start worrying where to
11:15
where should we go the first thing to
11:18
start I would say is pay attention to
11:20
the loop I call her the loop but it's
11:23
that little loop in your head mm-hmm
11:26
mine was the loudest when I was doing my
11:28
dishes so it would like talk to me like
11:31
why are you doing this what do you do
11:32
and what do you do and it would just
11:33
loop around and that's really the voice
11:36
of exhaustion and she would I realize
11:39
now she was trying to protect me but at
11:41
the time I kind of pushed her away and
11:43
can write you know no I got a deadline
11:45
or no there's something else to do so
11:48
first pay attention to the loop and if
11:50
it's saying you're tired you're tired
11:52
listen doesn't mean you give into it but
11:55
find out why you're tired the second
11:58
thing that I did is like I said I made a
12:00
commitment that I wanted to feel great
12:02
and and it's important to really make a
12:06
differentiator between feeling good and
12:09
feeling great I kind of say the way that
12:11
I think about great is you remember how
12:13
you when you were a little kid at like
12:15
maybe five years old and you're playing
12:16
outside in the summer day on the slip
12:19
and slide and that exuberance about life
12:22
and joy I believe that we can live that
12:26
way until they're not on this planet I
12:28
love that what I think I'm great so make
12:31
a choice that you want to live great and
12:33
then I'd say the third thing is to put
12:37
your well-being first Travel being first
12:43
okay that that can be hard though
12:46
sometimes right for all of us a type
12:48
personalities all of us who work work
12:50
work we get up early we go to bed late
12:52
we don't leave our desk it's hard to put
12:54
ourselves first isn't it yeah you know
12:57
and the thing it's weird you have to
12:58
reprogram yourself because you
13:00
programmed yourself to work hard you
13:03
programmed yourself to go go go
13:05
so a great way to start is what the way
13:08
that I reprogrammed myself is you know
13:11
that moment when you're laying in bed
13:12
and you're just coming to your waking
13:14
you know your eyes are open you just and
13:16
I would check in and I'd say to my
13:18
well-being I literally had to speak to
13:20
it as a third person because I was that
13:22
separate from it what do you need what
13:25
do you need right now
13:26
to feel great to feel supported and
13:29
sometimes she would just say you know
13:31
what don't talk to anybody for 15
13:33
minutes or sometimes she'd say you know
13:35
what I'm coffee I try tea in my yeah my
13:38
chai tea or you know what why don't you
13:41
just stay in bed for another five no for
13:44
me that's unheard of I'm the kind of
13:46
person that my I would make my bed
13:48
before I'm out of it all right this is
13:53
I mean I get this I totally get this I'm
13:56
not a good I'm not a good listener to
13:57
myself but I totally get what you're
13:59
saying and I know that our viewers are
14:01
getting it as well I'm gonna put another
14:02
comment up here and I'm gonna read it I
14:04
want to be able to continue to do things
14:06
like run up the stairs sit on the floor
14:08
with my legs crossed and play twister
14:10
with the grandkids what I choose to put
14:12
in my body is so important
14:14
listening to how certain foods affect me
14:17
what a great comment and that's just
14:18
alignment with what you're saying
14:20
exactly food we don't realize and I
14:23
don't know just probably our parents
14:26
didn't know it the people at school
14:28
didn't know it but food 100% affects the
14:32
quality of your life it does that we're
14:34
a chemic we're like a chemistry factory
14:37
and every food that we put in introduces
14:40
another chemical and and so we can
14:43
completely feel great by what we put in
14:46
our owner and pay attention as was that
14:49
Michelle said right attention to how it
14:51
makes you feel right right now I know
14:53
that you have a youtube channel and of
14:55
all of the call to actions that I'm
14:57
going to put up there I actually don't
14:58
have your YouTube channel you have all
14:59
these great videos that you have done in
15:01
the kitchen where are we gonna send them
15:03
to Kim castle on YouTube or you can go
15:06
to dishes you can go to youtube Jim
15:07
castle of like o'licious there as well
15:09
like a Lucas not me if you want to look
15:12
at the videos it's just if you just go
15:14
Kim Castle TV it'll take you to my
15:17
great yeah that's one of the reasons
15:19
that I got this kitchen is to be able to
15:22
and actually do cooking shows or we can
15:24
have a conversation and laugh but I
15:26
really want to empower women type-a
15:29
women to get back in the kitchen and get
15:32
her energy back there and to make it fun
15:34
and not feel like right like we're going
15:37
against all of the things that we were
15:39
told in the 70s that you know we we can
15:41
do more of a day of the kitchen and and
15:43
multi-cap another subject multitasking
15:46
we all we all used to say oh I can
15:48
multitask what women can do 10 though
15:50
and thinks at the same time guess what
15:52
ladies it's not it's not healthy it's
15:54
just not healthy although I am like a
15:56
consummate multitaskers a self a way
15:58
that I do it now is through super food I
16:01
I'm a geek about ingredients so if I'm
16:04
gonna put something in my mouth I want
16:05
to make sure it's doing at least three
16:07
or five different things to my father
16:09
well Kathleen says every food and every
16:12
thought it's all nourishment or toxicity
16:15
what a great comment that's a great song
16:17
great comma so I'm going to show people
16:19
how they can get in touch with you right
16:20
now on Facebook you're just going to go
16:22
to facebook-dot-com forward-slash cam
16:24
castle or you can go to twitter and you
16:27
can follow kim on twitter at kim castle
16:30
and instagram and jim castle and also
16:34
life alysha's dot m e you're going to be
16:37
able to find out all about kim there any
16:39
last thoughts that you want to share
16:41
with our audience um just if there's one
16:46
thing I can share yeah like I said about
16:48
choosing to feel great but also choosing
16:52
like really looking at your relationship
16:54
with food I mean up until five years ago
16:57
I could care less about food
16:59
give me a bar or pill or shake I was
17:01
always concerned about losing weight and
17:03
not putting anything in my mouth kind of
17:05
thing on Instagram if you go to
17:07
Instagram you can see that I share a lot
17:09
of healthy recipes right there on
17:12
Instagram beautiful things like this so
17:14
you can see the recipe for this right
17:16
also my cookbook and get my cookbook for
17:19
free desserts on a sweet tooth and I
17:22
think you can have your cake and eat it
17:23
too but really look at your relationship
17:26
with food and to realize that you we
17:29
don't eat because we're hungry right we
17:32
eat for fuel and if you want to see
17:34
great eat food that makes you that fuels
17:38
you just to feel great it's such a
17:41
simple concept when you say it like that
17:43
right yeah you know have a good
17:47
relationship with food put the right
17:49
kind of foods in your body and if it's
17:51
you know it is that simple ladies and
17:53
gentlemen it is that simple you just
17:55
have to pay attention I so I'm just
17:58
gonna I'm going to throw on a couple
18:00
more comments just because they
18:01
literally they're coming in all over the
18:03
place looking forward to seeing your
18:05

18:07
