can we really get by with a little help
0:05
from our friends this question and more
0:07
on this episode of the little white lie
0:10
Karen glass are here and welcome to the
0:13

0:16
ourselves as we get older and as I do
0:18

0:21
my reveal and as I said last week I'm
0:24

0:26

0:27
grown up as well if your hair on replay

0:39
push that share button send it out to
0:41
the world so that they'll come back and
0:42
join us now my very special guest today
0:46
I am so so so so excited her name is
0:49
Hannah farrier she is the star of
0:52
Bravo's hit TV show below-deck
0:54
Mediterranean now I had the the
0:56
delightful chance of meeting Hannah
0:59
three years ago when I was a guest on
1:02
the very first season of the show
1:04
and we've kept in touch and I'm really
1:06
happy that she's come back to join us
1:08
she's a great example of a young woman
1:10
who knows what she wants and she goes
1:11
out and she gets it and she's a great
1:14
example for all of the young women both
1:17
young and old out there to know that you
1:19
can do that she's relentless in
1:21
achieving her goals and her charm and
1:24
her perseverance has allowed her to soar
1:27
to Heights that I quite frankly I'm very
1:30
proud of what she's doing right now
1:31
and so without further ado let's welcome
1:33
Hannah to the show how are you doing Hey
1:37
it's so good to see you
1:39
how you going I am going great and I
1:42
have a question to ask you right off the
1:44
bat what's your little white lie what
1:45
lie to you hide behind um I don't know
1:49
it's like a lie I hide behind but
1:51
probably I guess my secret to all the
1:55
travel and a few ones every now and then
1:57
is heaps and heaps of water I'm even
2:00
drinking it now and always taking my
2:02
makeup off before bed and I try not to
2:05
lie too much because then otherwise I
2:06
find I don't really have a big sleep so
2:08
maybe my eyes not like I love that her
2:11
little white lie is not
2:13
and we should all like maybe follow your
2:15
your lead and not lie because then you
2:17
have to remember what you said right so
2:19
okay so the question is can we really
2:23
get by with a little help from our
2:24
friends
2:24
so first let's define friendship how
2:26
would you define friendship um so
2:29
friendship to me is probably like one of
2:31
the most important things in my life I
2:33
think especially once you're a little
2:36
bit older if you feel like I've been
2:37
single now for four or five years so my
2:41
friends are my you know my core my
2:44
structure I'm in Barcelona right now um
2:46
one of my best friends places so we
2:48
travel all over the world to make sure
2:50
that we see each other and I think it's
2:53
just to me like you know I know this
2:57
sounds awful and you shouldn't say this
2:58
at this age but then do you kind of come
3:00
and go a little bit so it is important
3:02
to keep your girlfriend's close and I
3:05
think there's like a lot I'm sorry
3:08
that's my Google box coming I think
3:12
there's like almost like it's kind of
3:14
acceptable to do so much for your
3:16
partner and then people almost find it a
3:18
bit strange when you do that for your
3:19
friends and I kind of don't look at it
3:21
that way so I definitely move mountains
3:23
for my friends that I'm really lucky
3:25
they did the same thing back for me I
3:27
love that so what does girlfriend time
3:29
look like for you I mean you just said
3:31
you're at a girlfriend's house right now
3:33
in Barcelona
3:34
do you guys to go traveling together you
3:36
go drinking together you go on below
3:38
debt med together possibly what does it
3:41
look like um last night it was two wines
3:45
before we went out and then we went to a
3:48
really nice fine-dining restaurants had
3:50
good food went for a cocktail afterwards
3:52
we're really honest with each other so
3:55
she's been in a foul mood the night
3:57
before so after I got a few drinks in
3:59
her I was like wow he was such a
4:00
last night um that's kind of part of any
4:05
good friend she was just allowing each
4:06
other to be honest you know and she lets
4:09
me know and I piss her off and I do the
4:10
same so I I you know and that's such an
4:13
important thing it's about being honest
4:15
with each other and being able to do
4:17
that with the friends in our life and as
4:18
the people that are listening you guys
4:20
that are watching the show right now if
4:22
you have any comments and want it want
4:23
to maybe ask Hannah
4:25
question please feel free to put those
4:27
comments in there we'll make sure to pop
4:29
them up on the screen and Hanna can
4:30
respond we got some people responding
4:32
right now hola ladies and hello that's
4:35
not that's that's great we're really
4:36
glad that you're joining us and make
4:38
sure you you interact because we do want
4:39
to talk with you so let's talk about
4:42
some of the girlfriends that you made in
4:44
the first season you made some
4:45
girlfriends in the very very first
4:46
season and Tiffany who became a captain
4:49
right she's now captaining her own ships
4:52
and and Julia tell us a little bit about
4:54
that relationship and those
4:55
relationships because that was the first
4:57
season and that probably was a little
4:59
different as it moved forward yeah I
5:01
think um the first season was really
5:04
unique because none of us knew what we
5:06
were doing and we were all kind of you
5:09
know running around the plate looks on
5:11
our faces running in schools just going
5:12
what is going on here and I think that
5:15
gave us we were all there for the right
5:17
reasons as well there was no one was
5:19
there just to kind of be on camera or
5:21
just be on television and I just feel
5:24
like if we formed like such a genuine
5:27
bonds I formed a really genuine bond
5:29
with both Julia and Tiffany and they're
5:31
still good friends in my life now and um
5:34
yeah it was just it was just one of
5:37
those really weird experiences and it
5:39
would never be the same again from you
5:41
know from season one so I think I got
5:44
very lucky I think you did - there were
5:46
lovely well be women and I had it was
5:48
really nice to be able to meet you and
5:50
and also them you guys made us feel very
5:52
much at home here we were all the way
5:54
across the world in a different place we
5:57
were in Access as that as that
5:58
particular season was in at Naxos but
6:01
you really made it easy and I think it's
6:04
because you guys were women as well I
6:05
called you you guys were women I think
6:07
that's an oxymoron you women were women
6:09
you girls were women you gals were women
6:11
and you made us as women feel very
6:13
comfortable there was no cattiness there
6:16
was no at least not on camera that we
6:18
were saying we saw some really lovely
6:21
women who treated each other with
6:23
respect is that really what you it and
6:25
that's really what you wanted to make
6:26
sure we all and the television yeah I
6:31
think like in season one we all just had
6:34
each other's back so much so we just
6:36
looked after each other
6:38
protected each other and it was kind of
6:40
as against the world and I think that
6:43
dynamic works really well on on yachts
6:45
because you know you we were lucky with
6:46
you guys you were such lovely guests but
6:49
sometimes really horrible guests that
6:51
can bring you move down and they can
6:53
make you feel like not amazing so the
6:56
fact that you've got the girls there to
6:58
kind of bounce off and bring a bit
7:02
shitty is always a great thing and
7:04
that's that definitely happened in
7:05
season one so you know question I'm sure
7:08
a lot of people wanted want to know why
7:10
did you decide to do below below deck
7:13
méditerranée what was your why behind
7:14
that um well I'd actually got in a
7:20
little bit sick of the Med which I know
7:22
it sounds impossible to do but I'd flown
7:25
over and joined the boat in America and
7:27
I really didn't get along with my
7:29
captain she was a bit of a nightmare so
7:32
I left that boat and then I met some
7:35
girlfriends and we were basically just
7:36
doing Ultra Music Festival in Croatia
7:38
and it all just came about as a bit of a
7:41
joke and then by the time I've kind of
7:44
by the time we got to the stage where I
7:47
was like looking to accept it I was like
7:48
oh you know what I'm kind of done with
7:50
you know this season it's too late in
7:53
the season to really you know and I had
7:55
a great summer anyway with the girls so
7:57
I think that was more just why not as
8:00
opposed to a why at that stage I love
8:02
that so we have a question from David
8:04
Thomas he wants to know of all the ports
8:06
of call that Hannah has been on below
8:07
deck which has been your favorite place
8:10
so far um I would have to say probably
8:14
Santorini so we weren't in court we're
8:17
at Ankara but it was definitely one of
8:19
the most beautiful places we've been to
8:21
and then this year we are so lucky we do
8:24
Positano Capri the Amalfi Coast
8:27
so that coastline there is like one of
8:30
my favorite pieces of Europe it's just
8:32
so gorgeous so this season I think is
8:34
probably going to be one of the most
8:36
beautiful in terms of these scenery the
8:38
backdrop the culture the Italian for
8:40
just hilarious so that always um makes
8:44
for a good laugh when we when we're off
8:46
the boat
8:46
they just look like we're crazy right
8:49
[Laughter]
8:51
so we have so two of the crew from last
8:54
season or the members of the show are
8:57
returning we've got captain sandy that
9:00
is coming back and we have Adam who is
9:02
the chef right he does the cooking hi
9:06
John well Hannah is awesome she
9:10
absolutely is she absolutely is so let's
9:14
talk about a fact that something
9:15
something that maybe the public does not
9:17
know about you what is something that
9:20
they do not know about you um you had
9:27
mentioned something about your desire
9:29
not to be on TV when we were talking
9:31
yeah I guess cuz it was actually funny I
9:34
was they've been just watching like old
9:35
school um the hills the other day and I
9:39
saw Tom Sandoval from Vanderpump and I
9:42
was like that's a really long time to be
9:44
working towards you know being on TV
9:47
right I like never had anything I
9:50
whatsoever to be on television I kind of
9:52
went into the low tech the only thing
9:53
that I did actually say to my parents
9:55
was like if I do it I'm gonna be a
9:56
hundred percent myself and we know that
10:00
that is not going right those and
10:03
daffodils so um I think probably yeah
10:07
the thing that everyone often thinks
10:09
when you're part of like a hit show like
10:10
below-deck that you've really worked
10:13
your whole life to be a part of that and
10:15
it was it just kind of aligned itself
10:18
and and then you know here we are three
10:20
years later and I'm which is which is
10:23
pretty amazing Libby says hi Hannah
10:25
can't wait for the new season so let's
10:26
talk about the new season next Tuesday
10:29
on May 15th and we're putting it up on
10:32
the scroll right now at 9 p.m. Eastern
10:35
and Western time which how that works
10:37
were not sure but 9 o'clock
10:39
whether you're on the west coast are on
10:41
the east coast check your Bravo listing
10:43
it's at 9 p.m.
10:44
I know that you can't really divulge
10:46
anything that's going to be happening
10:47
during the show
10:49
but can you give us an idea in terms of
10:53
of anything location wise or what we
10:56
should be looking out for some beautiful
10:58
scenery or what if
11:01
so I would definitely keep my eye out
11:04
for scenery because yeah because Capri
11:07
is just amazing the rock formations down
11:10
there is simply stunning and so this I
11:13
always like I kind of caught up to
11:15
season one I was like oh I know what I'm
11:16
doing a new season she was so different
11:18
and then coming back for season 3 after
11:21
kind of the little that was season 2 I
11:25
was like I definitely know what I'm
11:27
doing and then this year has been like
11:28
another completely different season so I
11:31
feel like the the crew this year was
11:34
really down to earth they were there for
11:37
the right reasons to work hard and have
11:39
fun and if there's definitely a lot I
11:44
didn't think they could be more drama
11:46
than season 2 but we managed to top it
11:49
so it can be a super explosive season so
11:53
reality television rape reality
11:56
television at its best
11:57
yeah well this is the funny thing is is
11:59
like I always get asked like two
12:01
producers come do they tell you what to
12:03
do like how much of it is real and the
12:05
funny thing is is like I've got friends
12:08
that working other reality TV shows that
12:10
I know a bit about but the thing with
12:12
below-deck
12:13
the magic behind it is you're putting
12:15
different personalities from different
12:17
cultures into such a small environment
12:19
we work like upwards of 16 18 hours a
12:23
day
12:23
you don't sleep when you do have time
12:25
off you want to go and have fun and
12:27
explore where you are but that's not
12:28
really helping your sleeping patterns so
12:30
they don't actually need to do anything
12:32
in our show it's all just so genuine and
12:35
so natural hi Trina sorry that's not my
12:39
favorites no it's great it's great we
12:41
want to give shout outs with people that
12:42
are on please make sure you comment well
12:44
we'll put you up on the screen so you
12:47
know it's gonna be a really crazy season
12:49
and hopefully like I I try and stay
12:52
really active on social media while the
12:55
show is I'm not the best of it when the
12:57
show's not airing but when the show is I
13:00
really try and stay active on our on
13:01
social media so Gary wants to know with
13:05
all that great food how do you stay in
13:07
shape do you not notice the messy black
13:11
Joe huh
13:13
that was funny
13:15
um so no basically so when I am when we
13:19
film it season so last season I lost 17
13:22
pounds while we were building oh wow
13:25
yeah it's a like it's a lot of weight to
13:28
lose in a really short period of time
13:29
because I'm just basically I just I
13:32
don't eat I don't really have time to
13:33
eat and I just run and run and run the
13:36
whole day up and down the boat so I find
13:38
I'm like super time the after the season
13:41
and really skinny and then I have my joy
13:44
light and then you go with the joy life
13:46
theory so you know we're talking about
13:50
friendship when you're talking about
13:51
girlfriends we're talking about also in
13:53
many respects how we collaborate with
13:55
our girlfriends and make even bigger
13:56
things better I want to bring in my
13:58
partner who's actually producing the
14:00
show right now Joey Garrity we're gonna
14:01
pop her in and we're gonna talk a little
14:03
bit about how even my hair so this is
14:07
Joey Garrity I had to everyone Joey
14:09
everyone so Joey is is started as a
14:13
girlfriend of mine and then she became
14:15
my business partner and now we
14:16
collaborate together she produces my
14:18
shows behind the scenes because she
14:21
likes to be behind the scenes but but I
14:22
wanted a popper on and we have Adela up
14:24
here saying good to see an Aussie girl
14:26
make it big yes that's amazing
14:29
so Joey we're talking about friendship
14:31
and girlfriends how do they show up in
14:32
your life um well I think tribe right I
14:37
mean I have this like you know one of my
14:38
drums I'm always talking about as kick
14:40
the lone wolf to the curb like we all
14:44
have to be in a tribe and I'll just have
14:46
each other's back and one way or another
14:48
and I think sometimes women are taught
14:50
really young to isolate one another not
14:54
to trust and so that divides the herd so
14:57
I'm all about like as all connecting
15:00
getting sticky yep and it does trust
15:03
play a big part in your friendships as
15:05
well Hanna ah yeah a hundred percent I
15:08
think that's you know to me like I
15:12
always I'm always poking here but at the
15:15
end of the day like if one of my
15:16
girlfriend's needs you she can call me
15:17
at 4 o'clock in the morning and it
15:19
doesn't matter where I am I'll drop like
15:21
ink and come to them if they need me so
15:23
um I just think the oil tea in trust is
15:25
such a big thing in relationships and I
15:27
think sometimes it
15:28
quite hard to find which is sad but um
15:30
I've got like my core group in in Sydney
15:34
they all kind of 10 15 years old and
15:36
we've been through not they're not 10
15:38
years old we've been friends we've got
15:42
friendships and girlfriends matter the
15:44
most game-changer absolutely absolutely
15:47
I still have a question for both of you
15:49
and that is has has your definition of
15:52
girlfriend changed as you've gotten
15:53
older have girlfriends mean something
15:56
different as you get older now I'm older
15:58
than both of you I so I can speak to the
16:00
60 year old but has the concept of
16:04
girlfriends changed as you both have
16:05
gotten older would you like to go first
16:09
I can tell we're both thinking really
16:11
hard we're both like yes they have it's
16:18
almost like in your late teens in your
16:20
early 20s I find that you know it's so
16:23
easy it's like meet a guy start dating
16:26
him and kind of lose touch a little bit
16:28
with your friends whereas I think once
16:30
you kind of hit their late 20s 30s and
16:33
hopefully it just stays that way as you
16:34
get older it's more like okay you come
16:37
into my life but I've built a life now I
16:39
feel to friendship base and that doesn't
16:41
go down the drain when you start dating
16:43
someone it's you know I kind of know
16:45
that it's really important to prioritize
16:47
those people in your life despite what
16:50
else can be going on yeah we definitely
16:53
agree with that I would say that
16:54
actually that it I feel like they it
16:57
gets easier in a way you know because
17:00
you kind of know your bet you have a
17:02
different value system as you get older
17:04
right then when you're younger and it's
17:07
just like what Hannah was saying earlier
17:08
about
17:08
when you're younger it's kind of about
17:10
the guys and who you're dating and all
17:12
that and just your priorities just
17:13
change in a way it's not like we're
17:15
still not 11:11 on the guys but it's
17:18
just that I feel like like we have a
17:20
different value systems as we get older
17:23
and it makes for easier friendships yeah
17:25
oh yeah what a great
17:27
he's just she's I think it's just that
17:29
you get smarter yes it gets smarter you
17:32
get older as you get older you get
17:34
smarter because you are I think that our
17:35
history our our experiences make a
17:39
difference how we move forward and
17:41
and how we approach our friendships and
17:43
for those of you who are watching live
17:44
right now and even if you're on replay
17:46
later on tell us
17:47
how friendship and girlfriends show up
17:49
in your your life so what about
17:52
below-deck Australia okay we've got
17:54
Adela she's gonna I think create a new
17:56
show we were taught a community show
17:57
just for you yeah I'd love to do I
18:00
actually didn't say you know there's
18:02
obviously the Caribbean right now and
18:04
then there's the Mediterranean I
18:05
actually think the low-tech South
18:09
Pacific would be amazing we've got some
18:11
gorgeous faces down there and you feel
18:14
in the whitsundays the French Polynesia
18:18
area it's just beautiful so I would be
18:21
all on board for that I bet you would
18:24
and I bet they will be calling you up in
18:26
just a few minutes now that we've you
18:27
know kind of put the idea out there as a
18:30
show to do had any last thoughts about
18:32
friendship girlfriends that you want to
18:34
share before we do a big shout out for
18:36
the premiere of the show that is
18:37
happening next Tuesday any last thoughts
18:40
no I think honestly my biggest thing
18:43
that I would say to anyone even if it's
18:45
just advice or what have you is just
18:47
like treat your girlfriend's like gold
18:50
because at the end of the day I think
18:52
it's probably just gonna be ad sitting
18:53
around having whiskey or brandy or
18:56
whatever you know the sixties and
18:58
seventies and I just think it's really
19:00
important to invest a lot of your time
19:03
energy finances everything like that
19:06
into into your friendships because
19:08
they're just so important so that would
19:10
be my last words I would agree with that
19:12
as as as the six ladies who went on the
19:15
very first season us older girls older
19:17
ladies we were girlfriends at that age
19:20
and we all came together to be on this
19:22
amazing trip together so I think that
19:24
you were right on the money on that and
19:26
I want to thank you so much for taking
19:28
time guys if you don't know she's
19:30
