hello everyone mel greenberg here and
0:03
i'm karen class here and welcome to
0:05
uncork life exposed in the most
0:08
unexpected ways where what you see is
0:10
not always what you get
0:13
today uncorked is brought to you by
0:15
vitalsy the guide to living in a stage
0:17
of growth purpose and discovery so
0:20
whether you're here live or on replay we
0:23
love you make sure you comment below let
0:26
us know where you're watching from
0:28
today we're talking about gratitude but
0:30
specifically
0:32
is it an attitude is it something you
0:34
cultivate you're born with can you
0:36
really fake it till you make it but
0:39
first things first because we are
0:41
uncorking here and today we are
0:44
uncorking our favorite fall libation a
0:47
little kentucky bluegrass bourbon
0:49
so cheers everybody cheers
0:55
mel it's especially fun because uh this
0:57
is the first show that we're taping
0:59
together side by side and what our
1:01
audience doesn't know is that we had
1:03
never met personally how how cool is
1:05
this so i i love taking online
1:07
relationships offline so i just had to
1:09
make a mention of that well and actually
1:11
that's a really fun place to begin
1:13
because
1:15
thinking of gratitude and we really we
1:17
live in a place i live in a place you
1:19
know we always do mel versus karen but i
1:21
think both of us will
1:24
express this looking for silver linings
1:26
and one of the silver linings of covid
1:29
has been this virtual world we are all
1:31
living in and that's how we met karen
1:34
interviewed me we connected we started
1:36
so many things together
1:38
but we had never met in person and now
1:40
as the world is turning as it is we've
1:42
had the opportunity and we live close
1:44
enough and and we i and i we love it and
1:47
even though we joke the male versus
1:48
karen we have so many things that we are
1:50
like on even though we have you know
1:52
things that we disagree on and i think
1:54
that's the way the world goes right
1:56
absolutely so
1:58
i guess the first question that we're
1:59
going to talk about is how do you find
2:00
gratitude in this world well i i do
2:03
think that i look for silver linings and
2:06
and
2:07
i find them and i kind of ruminate on
2:09
them with laughter and if i can if we
2:11
can't especially you know what we get to
2:12
this age i'm 61. if i can't laugh at
2:15
myself and about myself
2:17
what's the point so that gives that
2:19
brings me to a lighter place of being
2:22
and if i can stay there
2:24
regardless of how heavy the world gets
2:26
or my world gets i can find something to
2:29
be grateful for and from there i can go
2:31
forward
2:33
and
2:34
since i'm a geek
2:37
i love to do things just a little bit i
2:39
love to do things um online and
2:41
digitally um i like to do gratitude
2:44
challenges
2:45
because sometimes
2:47
i have i struggle figuring out what what
2:49
i'm grateful for we you know we live in
2:51
a world of so many things going on and
2:53
sometimes you just you have to you know
2:56
get there and if you feel grateful and
2:58
so um the great the gratitude channel uh
3:02
the gratitude thing that i do i'm like
3:05
challenge um basically every morning i
3:08
wake up i pull my journal out and i
3:10
write down three things that i'm
3:12
grateful for
3:13
it can be the same thing every day maybe
3:15
it is i'm grateful for my husband i'm
3:17
grateful that i woke up today all of
3:19
those things and so it's it's literally
3:22
a challenge and i i throw it out to you
3:24
guys as well
3:25
if you want to join us on the challenge
3:27
yeah let us know we're you know we can
3:29
we can do a lot of different things and
3:31
i know mel is going to join me on the
3:32
challenge i am and we're going to start
3:33
out this month
3:35
and i think that three is easy to manage
3:38
right and like you said you can find
3:39
something to be grateful for i'm glad i
3:41
have my coffee in the morning if you're
3:42
you know and then there are other days
3:44
where i'm glad that that a mammogram
3:47
came back negative right
3:49
you know that so there's little
3:51
milestones but you can find gratitude in
3:53
everything abso absolutely and it's fun
3:56
to share because sometimes it's i'm
3:58
grateful for my friend right and that
4:00
might be what you put when you are
4:02
dealing with your friend or working with
4:03
your friend or doing the challenge with
4:06
your friend so if you want to join us
4:07
let us know we'd love to have you join
4:09
us
4:10
so
4:12
it's a mel versus karen
4:14
it's november
4:16
thanks thanksgiving
4:18
it's here
4:19
so so when we were talking
4:22
as you know we've already gone through
4:24
how you
4:25
put things together entertained and i'm
4:27
the detail and and get it all out there
4:29
and i love it and so for thanksgiving
4:32
well and again the past year or two well
4:34
this will be kind of the second year
4:36
it'll be nicer um i love having my
4:38
family around me and friends and in the
4:41
past we weren't home when our son was
4:43
playing football we were at his games
4:45
every year and we did friendsgiving with
4:47
the coaches families
4:49
and that was really special and i
4:50
actually do miss that so now home
4:53
and back to family and we're adding
4:56
friends and opening our home as it's
4:57
available to do that to have people that
5:00
maybe don't have family with them and
5:03
have you know right but the more the
5:05
merrier the bigger the better so what
5:07
are you making
5:09
well we don't like turkey
5:10
so
5:13
so uh roast chicken
5:15
and that's kind of our go-to and then um
5:17
we love brisket and to be honest with
5:19
you it's sort of a rosh hashanah redo
5:22
yeah with a couple changes
5:24
so we don't like turkey either
5:27
we don't do chicken we do sweet and sour
5:29
meatballs okay
5:31
it's a tradition i do it every year even
5:33
if we're not going somewhere and again
5:34
we didn't go anywhere you know last year
5:36
and we're not going anywhere this year
5:37
as well but we do do the meatballs so
5:40
mostly because that's what my husband
5:42
will wait he won't eat anything else i'm
5:43
thinking my husband might be i don't
5:45
know
5:46
yeah he would like that so
5:48
again food you know you do it doesn't
5:50
matter what you're eating it it matters
5:52
the actual getting together being
5:54
together whether it's on zoom whether
5:56
it's personally uh whether it's on a
5:58
live stream however you're doing it it's
6:01
breaking bread together and we literally
6:02
did thanksgiving on zoom last year and
6:04
we ate together you know with the food
6:06
coming out of our mouth and that is what
6:08
makes the memories right and that's what
6:10
creates the traditions that carry on
6:13
so
6:14
let's talk about families
6:16
kind of just nose dive into that as i
6:18
said i did we did a thanksgiving zooms
6:21
um and and since there's my family is
6:23
large we literally had like seven
6:25
different windows open wow and we were
6:27
looking at my youngest brother is a
6:30
amazing chef so he was showing us his
6:32
spread which was like this and you know
6:35
we had our meatballs here
6:38
but it's you know it's okay yeah did you
6:40
do you did a zoom thanksgiving right too
6:42
no we didn't we had you buddy
6:44
i love that but because we had everybody
6:47
in our hometown right and i have my kids
6:49
back with me now
6:51
and
6:52
we had a beautiful beautiful you know
6:54
smaller than normal but still just being
6:57
together again whether it's on zoom
7:00
or you know in person is the most
7:03
meaningful the time
7:06
so i'm excited that thanksgiving is
7:08
rolling around um
7:10
not that you ha that's the only day you
7:11
can be grateful or count your blessings
7:14
every
7:17
is for me thanksgiving i give thanks i
7:20
feel blessed i truly feel blessed after
7:22
the years that we've had i feel blessed
7:24
i feel blessed that my family is healthy
7:27
that i can still see them even if just
7:29
on zoom yeah right
7:31
they're there they're totally there and
7:33
i love the idea of a friendsgiving
7:35
yeah and we all brought you know some we
7:38
did something and something i always did
7:40
because so many of them had young
7:42
families i was the one that i would
7:44
bring games for the kids and set up
7:46
tables and activities for all the
7:48
children and so that gave me a chance to
7:50
kind of get back to those years and now
7:52
starting over with the grandbaby in the
7:54
house that whole cycle will start again
7:56
and for that i'm very this year has been
7:58
an amazing year for us for our family
8:01
and isn't that so wonderful to be able
8:03
to say that in this day and time yes i i
8:07
truly and i love your shirt
8:09
grateful heart
8:10
all of us always always always
8:13
guys you know that we put a kit together
8:15
uh every show and today we're actually
8:17
going to show you some of the items this
8:19
is different we're going to actually
8:20
show you some of the items so i'm going
8:22
to go ahead and put this up here
8:29
the journal and when you spoke about the
8:31
gratitude challenge that you do i do
8:34
morning pages and i write and that's my
8:37
my gratitude and i write through them
8:39
and a journal is a great way to keep it
8:41
and i use paper journals and because
8:43
it's just stream of consciousness
8:44
writing
8:45
i i you know what i do my ritual is to
8:48
burn them at the end when that because i
8:49
just get they're really they're about a
8:51
month pages and kind of release that out
8:53
into the universe so with its intentions
8:55
and love and
8:56
i'm curious why do you burn them
8:59
because that lets it it lets it out into
9:02
the you know
9:03
wow
9:04
maybe i should try that
9:06
maybe what's our next item our next item
9:09
is
9:10
family family right thanksgiving we take
9:13
all these pictures whether it's a zoom
9:15
screenshot or in-person pictures
9:17
it's really cool to be able to share
9:20
your pictures right well am i like this
9:23
the digital because we keep at least i
9:25
do i keep everything on my medium and
9:27
you tend not to get them printed out
9:29
right in the ways that we used to and
9:31
these digital frames are amazing because
9:33
you literally can upload your phone so
9:34
you if you put it into a file favorites
9:37
folder load that on your camera and then
9:39
it's a revolving cascade i love it it's
9:41
beautiful and everyone in your family
9:44
yes makes a great gift actually everyone
9:46
in your family if they have one of these
9:48
and you upload these pictures they can
9:50
see the same pictures that you do which
9:51
is so phenomenal i mean again we live in
9:54
a different time here do you remember
9:56
the slides and the um kodak
10:00
the polaroids all that stuff i just
10:02
thought of something what a fun
10:03
thanksgiving dinner thing send these out
10:06
to the family members prior have
10:08
everyone load their pictures and share
10:10
them at the dinner i love that that
10:12
would be really oh my gosh that would be
10:13
really fun a good idea really good idea
10:16
okay
10:17
better idea
10:18
even better idea
10:20
we're drinking cheers
10:24
but these are really
10:26
very very beautiful
10:28
classy
10:29
highball glasses i really like simple
10:31
pure to hold your drink absolutely
10:34
cocktail of choices exactly and when
10:38
i have to say mel's the one who picked
10:39
out all of these things because she's
10:41
got great great taste and she came up
10:43
with this and i went oh my gosh i want
10:45
one of those what is this so it's like a
10:48
mold for an ice cube and i'm gonna full
10:50
disclosure my oldest son's favorite
10:52
drink is is old fashioned and his
10:54
favorite restaurant is republique in l.a
10:56
so i think it's labrador wilshire but
10:59
they they have the cube that takes the
11:02
whole glass and they do have the best
11:04
old fashions by the way i will also
11:06
attest to that
11:07
but this is such a fun thing and we were
11:10
talking how you could make it festive
11:11
for the holidays you know christmas red
11:14
and green a little food dye gold blue
11:16
whatever
11:18
birthday you know you can add some
11:20
excitement to it in every way you can
11:21
imagine so it's a really fun little and
11:23
one of the things that i like to do with
11:25
ice cubes regardless of whether they're
11:26
their balls or squares and anything so
11:28
that it doesn't water down your drink i
11:30
take the existing drink and make ice
11:32
cubes out of that uh not everything's
11:35
not like vodka's not going to freeze but
11:37
some other um
11:38
alcohols will freeze
11:41
just a note yeah that's a great idea all
11:43
right and of course what's thanksgiving
11:45
without the spread yeah i'm william
11:48
sonoma on every level just a great go-to
11:50
for some great ideas good products
11:53
and we wanted to share that with you
11:55
even if you know their catalogs just
11:57
scroll through their website or any of
11:59
them just to get some ideas this is a
12:01
really really fun book and so you know
12:03
we talk about the kit so i'm just going
12:05
to put the link to the kid up here uh if
12:08
you go to
12:09
uncorked live which is the name of the
12:11
show you will find all of these items
12:13
you're going to find your book in there
12:14
as well
12:15
because because i'm grateful for that
12:17
because i love it yes absolutely because
12:20
um we'd like to hear from you guys we
12:22
really would we'd like to hear what you
12:24
think um what do you think about the
12:26
holiday of thanksgiving what do you
12:28
think about
12:29
being grateful being having gratitude
12:32
what are your thoughts put them in the
12:33
comments down below
12:35
because we want to know
12:37
this isn't this is
12:39
this is actually a little shorter show
12:40
than when you i want to go eat is what i
12:42
like
12:44
yeah and we
12:46
we have a lot to share and we we have
12:49
but also we wanted to just throw some
12:51
things out there for you to think about
12:53
and
12:54
with regard to gratitude and again
12:56
finding it in a time and a world when
12:59
there's so much going against that
13:01
entire
13:03
process
13:04
um yeah and that's okay too maybe just
13:07
be grateful for the ability to be able
13:09
to reflect reflect on it and pick one
13:12
thing
13:13
and and try and find you know something
13:16
to find
13:17
yeah
13:17
i agree
13:19
we're excited you you mentioned at the
13:20
