0:00
and no everyone Karen glasser here and
0:02
welcome to the little white line
0:04
movement on these weekly Facebook lives
0:07
I invite my guests to share their
0:09
stories their expertise tools and tips
0:12
on how we can embrace our authentic self
0:15
talents and gifts and say yes to
0:18
embracing our little white lie so don't
0:21
forget to connect with me on the little
0:23
white lie calm you'll see it's right
0:24
there on the screen and make sure you
0:27
post and answer the questions that we
0:29
throw out because we're going to throw
0:31
your comments right up on the screen and
0:33
don't forget to put the hashtag hashtag
0:36
little white lie so that we can track
0:38
this all across social media and we can
0:41
continue to grow this movement so I'm
0:46
really really excited today we're asking
0:48
the question does the way you dress
0:50
define your age does the way you dress
0:53
define your age and who better than
0:57
having an image advisor with me today
1:00
her name is Lawrence Lawrence Solomon
1:02
she is a trusted image advisor of CEOs
1:05
corporations and individuals worldwide
1:08
as well as an internationally renowned
1:11
speaker author coach and media
1:13
personality she's got clients all around
1:15
the world across every continent ranging
1:18
from Disney to American Express bvlgari
1:21
I think I said that right and pfizer she
1:23
is a resident image expert for career TV
1:26
and the Lifetime TV series remake my
1:30
life I think I think I'm going to join
1:33
worn on remaking my life I'm not sure
1:35
she is also the author of image matters
1:37
and the co-author of the number one
1:40
bestseller the law of business
1:42
attraction and the executive image power
1:45
so without further ado I invite Lauren
1:48
into the show Lauren good afternoon how
1:51
are you today I'm terrific thank you
1:53
thank you so much for that lovely
1:55
introduction how are you i am doing i am
1:57
so awesome it ought to be a sinner
1:59
really odd it s in and i want to remind
2:02
people that if you're here on replay we
2:04
love that you're here on replay make
2:06
sure you comment down there too because
2:07
we're going to respond to you we're
2:09
going to make sure that you are loved
2:12
because we love you and as I do every
2:15
time every week I'm going to do my
2:17
reveal so here we go you know is funny
2:23
Lauren I was on a cruise last week and
2:25
I've been posting a couple of pictures
2:27
of me with my white hair and i think i
2:29
was telling you right before the show i
2:31
had several people come up to me and say
2:33
oh my gosh you look amazing which you
2:35
know of course made me feel good but the
2:37
next statement was how do you do that so
2:41
you know i was going to say well you
2:43
become 60 and you start growing your
2:45
hair out so today we're going to be
2:48
talking about this whole image thing
2:50
okay and it does the way you dress to
2:53
find your age so let me just ask you do
2:54
you think the way we dress to find our
2:56
age I think the way we dress reflects
3:00
the way we feel and that's for those of
3:04
us who actually have taken time to think
3:06
about it and to actually make an effort
3:08
in that direction in other cases I think
3:11
the way we dress reflects the way others
3:13
think we should look and how old others
3:16
see us to be so I think there's that two
3:19
sides of the coin is for those who have
3:21
spent some time with it they've made
3:24
efforts to dress and reflect the way
3:26
they feel and the other side is people
3:28
are still dressing in other people's
3:30
images of them so how would you define
3:33
the word image is it a picture is it our
3:39
hair is it our clothes how would you
3:41
define the word image it's so great that
3:44
you asked that because even when I was
3:46
president of the image Association we
3:48
really struggled with the word image the
3:50
word image has a horrible image problem
3:52
and it could use some consultation good
3:56
know as many as many of us have tried
3:57
but for me personally and it is just my
4:01
personal approach is image is a very
4:03
holistic view of who you want to be and
4:07
how you want to be seen in the world so
4:10
image is completely within your control
4:14
so you know I don't think a day goes by
4:17
that I don't open a magazine or a
4:18
newspaper article or something online
4:20
that says or even on facebook social
4:23
media that will say Oh elbow first one
4:25
to put a post up here from Nancy Ferrari
4:28
great insight Lauren about dressing how
4:30
people want us to look Thank You Nancy
4:32
for your share love that the day doesn't
4:35
go by that tells me if you're over 40
4:38
these are the clothes or these are the
4:39
colors or this is what you should be
4:41
wearing you want to speak to that I mean
4:43
what is this what is this thing with the
4:46
media that's going to tell us how we
4:48
should dress well the media is going to
4:50
tell us how we should do everything I
4:51
mean goodness they tell us which fork to
4:53
eat with they tell us which color to
4:54
wear they tell us what shoes to buy they
4:57
tell us what kind of dog is hot right
4:59
now so you know if you don't have the
5:01
hottest you know hybrid dog go get a new
5:04
one I mean that's the media's job when
5:07
you put the media aside and you take
5:10
them out of the conversation because
5:12
they need to sell information they need
5:15
to sell their content newspapers
5:17
magazines blog posts everything is all
5:21
about getting eyeballs and the eyeballs
5:23
unfortunately are driven by the
5:25
headlines so those headlines that say 10
5:28
things you can do to look 10 pounds
5:30
slimmer without missing a meal or going
5:32
to the gym right like that's going to
5:34
happen well you know if that's a lion I
5:36
use because truthfully if you dress your
5:39
best you can lose 10 pounds without
5:42
skipping a meal are going to the gym so
5:44
while it's a cool headline unfortunately
5:46
they're not giving you the true answers
5:47
in the article because they have to
5:50
write next week's post that says wait a
5:52
minute we got that one wrong and here
5:54
are 10 different thing and that's what
5:56
else right that's what's that's what's
5:58
is LA Weekly and unfortunately the other
6:01
thing that sells is small sizes so the
6:05
thing about sizing and women sizing more
6:08
than men you know women don't want to
6:11
wear more than a size 10 nobody wants to
6:14
feel like they're big well who decided
6:16
that a 14 was big who decided that a 6
6:20
was okay who decided that a size 0
6:24
should even exist oh my god there are
6:27
other questions I got that mean that's
6:30
that end and you know want to bring up
6:32
the whole sizing thing in the first
6:34
place so I remember back in the day when
6:36
I was still sewing my own clothes
6:38
Simplicity patterns and you
6:39
would buy you know whatever size you
6:41
were in a bi and even and then take that
6:43
into the department stores in a size six
6:45
today is not the same side sick from
6:49
back then right right because the woman
6:51
who's a size 10 wanted to be a size six
6:54
so slowly a six became a chance or at
6:57
least an eight but it still called the
7:00
six and that's why they had to create
7:02
zero because too was no longer truly the
7:05
smallest size they needed something
7:07
smaller there is zero and double zero by
7:09
the way before you get to junior sizing
7:12
so it just goes to show that we okay I
7:19
think we have Lauren has frozen over
7:21
there and I don't think she knows that
7:24
she has frozen and this is such a great
7:25
conversation I am hoping that she will
7:29
know that she's frozen I'm going to ask
7:31
what of one of lauren's friends Amy do
7:34
you want to go text lauren a let her
7:36
know that she's frozen and to come back
7:37
in and join us and here she come okay
7:43
you're back you're back sorry aqua who
7:45
I'm so glad you're back so size 10 are
7:48
now considered size sixes and i'll let
7:51
you continue and the designers and the
7:53
manufacturers are going with that
7:55
because they want people to be happy and
7:57
they want them to buy their clothes so
7:59
they're going to accommodate the mindset
8:01
but again where did that mindset come
8:03
from and why does it matter I love when
8:07
I can cut out the tags of my clients
8:10
clothes and just say we're not looking
8:12
at numbers right now let's just put on
8:13
clothes that fit and look fabulous let's
8:16
see what makes you feel the most amazing
8:19
and let it go with that well that's
8:21
that's what this movement is all about
8:22
that you're inside reflects what you or
8:25
your outside reflects how you feel on
8:27
the inside and vice versa so if somebody
8:30
comes to you and says okay all these
8:32
magazines and to a TV and media they're
8:34
telling me that I need to wear x y&z how
8:36
do you turn that around how do you have
8:39
that conversation with that person has
8:42
come to you so my ladies know better if
8:44
they're coming to me they already know
8:46
that they're going to get you check
8:48
those opinions at the door we're not
8:51
dealing in alternate facts we're dealing
8:53
the reality we're dealing in your life
8:55
your lifestyle your dreams and your
8:57
goals and amazingly if I ask you what
9:01
any of those are no response comes back
9:04
a size 4 no response comes back you know
9:07
a particular garment or maybe as an
9:10
aspiration I would like to be able to
9:11
wear X but there is always always an
9:16
alternative that will work for any body
9:18
and my response is there is nothing
9:21
wrong with your body your body and you
9:24
and your life you're quite perfect now
9:26
we get to use the clothes as a tool to
9:28
reflect that so you can show that to the
9:32
rest of the world and it can help you to
9:34
your point help you feel better inside
9:36
because that's what informs the outside
9:39
and then it's a spiral and in my book I
9:42
write about the fact that you can't
9:44
separate the two you can't address just
9:47
the inside without addressing the
9:49
outside and vice versa especially if you
9:52
want to really be your best you know
9:55
it's so important what you're saying and
9:56
one of the things that I've noticed
9:58
about myself with with this little thing
10:00
going on up here is that I really had to
10:02
become confident I really had to step
10:05
into my own confidence my own power and
10:08
say you know what this is part of me and
10:10
I love it and the minute I actually had
10:13
that mindset shift that I love this I
10:16
mean I still look at myself every so
10:18
often and say oh they look at me it
10:21
looks like I'm wearing a hat on my head
10:23
sometime but it's a matter of confidence
10:26
and would you agree with that but this
10:27
is a matter of one shoe can look at
10:30
yourself and have the inside match the
10:32
outside is that a competent thing that's
10:34
totally a confidence builder because
10:36
then you get to actually see who you are
10:39
instead of looking in the mirror and
10:41
feeling like you have to cover up or
10:43
hide and which is why I so love your
10:46
title little white lie and it's just a
10:48
genius a genius direction for the
10:50
conversations that you bring that I want
10:53
you to look in the mirror and love who
10:55
and what you see and know that that is
10:57
authentically you I don't want you to
10:59
have to think twice about oh do I want
11:02
to tell the world best or do I want to
11:04
tell the world bad
11:05
what am i hiding today or whatever it
11:08
takes the whole idea is for us to live
11:10
this life to the fullest and we can't do
11:13
that if we're manufacturing the parts
11:17
that we want people to see so tell us a
11:20
little bit about your media experience I
11:22
mean I know that we played when I
11:23
introduce you I talked about the shows
11:25
that you do what do you do with them
11:27
exactly with the shows yea though
11:31
historically I've been a repeat guests
11:33
on a number of shows Fox good day New
11:35
York and when I was in New York and also
11:37
a lifetime program called our home so in
11:41
that capacity I could be the etiquette
11:45
expert I could be the image expert we
11:47
could talk about chipping we could talk
11:48
about pointy toe shoes talk about
11:52
whatever we wanted to whatever they
11:54
wanted us to talk about in the realm of
11:56
image life lifestyle so its image life
11:59
and style that's how I I describe it so
12:01
however this impacts your life to
12:03
whatever degree and now currently I
12:06
co-host a program that's privately owned
12:09
here in Southern California called good
12:11
day orange county and we do it's also a
12:15
lifestyle segments type of segment
12:18
driven show and my no surprise to anyone
12:21
my segments are beauty fashion cooking
12:25
because I just love to be in the kitchen
12:26
unfortunately my co-host of Smaug
12:28
because not everything you cook too we
12:32
do so it's cooking without cooking I've
12:34
learned that it's called compilation
12:37
compilation in the kitchen we don't have
12:39
a heat source so it's either a blender
12:41
or a food processor and I bring
12:44
everything pre-prepared and my favorite
12:46
apparently who knew I was such a pudding
12:49
girl I just talked about a life I seem
12:51
to like all kinds of we treats that are
12:54
healthy heart healthy low glycemic so we
12:57
did the first one we did was avocado
13:00
chocolate mousse have you ever had it no
13:03
and I guess ah ok I'm not even sure what
13:08
to say absolutely it's so the beauty of
13:11
avocado is that a perfectly ripe avocado
13:13
will take on the flavors that you give
13:15
it and it has that moosie
13:17
creaminess that when you throw it into a
13:19
blender your contribution oh no no but
13:24
it's delicious and even the crew even
13:27
the crew loved it so all right a
13:30
question Lauren you can what channel is
13:32
your show on in Orange County the show
13:35
is oh sorry the show is on where'd we go
13:40
there we go let me show it show is on a
13:42
private with on channel 6 it's privately
13:44
owned by laguna woods the community of
13:46
laguna woods and ultimately we're going
13:49
to take it and push it out through
13:51
youtube so there with you just if you go
13:53
on to youtube and you google good day
13:56
Orange County you'll find some of the
13:58
segment's up there already from previous
14:00
shows we've since moved into a beautiful
14:02
new studio and its really upgraded and
14:04
it's a fabulous show so it will become
14:07
public in a bigger way right now on this
14:09
private it's very fun eighteen thousand
14:12
homes no oh now you've run down that's
14:15
amazing so you know have you ever felt I
14:17
mean here you're and this is what you do
14:19
for a living you you are in the image
14:21
arena have you ever felt yourself when
14:24
you get on these you know they all these
14:26
different things have you looked at the
14:28
other person sitting next to you and say
14:30
hmm I mean how does are you are you able
14:34
to have the right mindset when you get
14:36
on what I'm guess I'm well so the beauty
14:38
is growing growing up on the East Coast
14:40
and mostly from New York City I grew up
14:42
in New Jersey and lived most of my life
14:44
in Manhattan you know you learn to turn
14:47
it off you learn to lose your own
14:49
opinions until you're getting paid for
14:51
them so I don't actually get to have an
14:55
opinion unless i am directly asked and
14:57
even then i think two or three times
14:59
before i answer i'll always answered
15:01
kindly but not always completely if I
15:04
think I'm in danger so I am careful
15:07
about that the one thing the one thing
15:10
that I I have absolutely learned is is
15:14
that everyone is doing their best let
15:18
everyone know I don't know a soul who
15:20
wakes up and says how can I make this a
15:22
really crappy day and how can I let my
15:24
worst hopefully nobody i know this is
15:27
that that we
15:28
I dad actually and I know like millions
15:31
of people that I've come in contact with
15:33
and no one has ever said that to me but
15:35
if what they do say is I do want to do
15:38
my best and these are all the tools I
15:40
have to work with and as always I can
15:43
provide more tools then I can be of
15:47
greater value and you know interestingly
15:49
of course i have my own meltdown days we
15:52
all do and it's really hard when you're
15:55
in my business so there was there was a
15:58
period of time where I was very sick and
15:59
the only thing that I had gained over
16:01
night I had gained an enormous amount of
16:03
weight and the only thing thats it were
16:04
yoga pants and t-shirts and of course I
16:06
wouldn't leave the house thank God fresh
16:08
direct and you know everybody else
16:10
delivers but I went through that my own
16:14
that thing that my clients go through
16:17
and it happens periodically that says I
16:19
want to be my best what am I going to do
16:21
well I could get on facebook i could get
16:24
online I could you know be on camera
16:26
with just this little bit showing and I
16:28
could I could make it work most people
16:31
don't have that kind of control they
16:32
have to get up and get dressed and get
16:33
out to work every day and so my job and
16:38
my responsibility as I see it is to set
16:40
you up for your greatest success like
16:42
let's let's just talk about your hair
16:44
for a second because I love it so much
16:46
and i'm jealous and i'm not ready yet
16:48
and i'm working my way toward it and
16:50
you're an inspiration but the last about
16:54
a month or so ago i had i was scheduled
16:57
my parents were visiting me I had hair
17:00
color scheduled for 8am I was supposed
17:02
to take them to the airport by
17:03
ten-thirty then I was supposed to get to
17:05
the studio for a shoot of the show right
17:08
this is the hair salon no stylist no
17:12
stylist til 830 no word nothing he's
17:15
sick he's sick he's in bed he's been up
17:17
all night I find out at eight-thirty I'm
17:19
almost ready to have a stroke because my
17:21
day is scheduled minute a minute and I
17:25
literally I could feel the tears running
17:27
down my face just because of all the
17:29
things that had to fall into place and
17:30
here I did everything I could and then I
17:33
thought to myself you are out of your
17:34
mind but you're really out of your mind
17:37
go to the dry bar get a blow dry they
17:40
have the color powder fill in your roots
17:42
you know
17:43
get to the studio do the stupid show
17:45
keep moving right and that's something
17:48
that I teach my women to do all the time
17:51
is that this stuff it's just stuff and
17:54
you know if I if I'm ready or anyone is
17:58
ready to start doing hair and letting it
18:00
grow in you're doing it very publicly
18:02
publicly in a very bold way but if we
18:05
were working together I would have said
18:07
early on let's chop it up and make it so
18:11
cute and let's make the gray part of the
18:14
style as opposed to you know what you're
18:16
doing not because for shame but because
18:18
we're most of us don't have we don't
18:20
have your inner strength my dear and and
18:23
I really do appreciate what you're
18:25
saying and you know I am fortunate the
18:28
colors is coming in actually quite
18:30
pretty it's I have the silver thing
18:32
going on and and that and I understand
18:34
that that most people are not going to
18:36
have the guts to do what I'm doing and I
18:38
don't expect them to in any way shape or
18:40
form but I did think that I needed to
18:42
make a huge statement by doing it in
18:45
this public way and I guess you would
18:48
agree that that's exactly what exactly
18:51
what I've done so guys those of you that
18:53
are listening and I know we have viewers
18:54
on and I said I'm thrilled you're
18:56
putting your comments down there answer
18:58
the question please does the way you
19:01
dress define your age are you put off by
19:04
thinking that you have to dress a
19:06
certain way please comment down there
19:08
because we would love to get your your
19:12
input and and the information that you
19:14
have and I also would love to have you
19:16
visit lauren over at schedule appear
19:20
there we go at more in Solomon com you
19:23
can get to know Lauren much better over
19:25
there she's got all sorts of stuff going
19:27
on in her sight and I don't know if
19:29
you're actually working with new clients
19:30
right now Lauren but I'm sure if you are
19:32
you'll there's a way for them to reach
19:34
out to you oh here we got a comment here
19:38
let's put it up here this is from Cheryl
19:41
who says no I don't feel I have to dress
19:43
a certain way here here good for you
19:46
Cheryl I'm really glad to hear that and
19:48
here's another one I am 44 and just like
19:52
I'm 64 I
19:56
with see now April I'm not sure what a
19:58
54 year old dresses like I'm 60 and I
20:01
don't I don't know what that actually
20:03
means but that but that's a great
20:05
comment and any set know any fashion
20:07
experts who want to make / volunteer
20:09
we've got another comment from Amy who
20:12
says for me it depends where I'm going I
20:14
am very much a jeans girl when relaxing
20:17
these are great comments thank you so
20:19
much for sharing them don't forget to
20:20
put a hashtag little white lie because
20:23
we want to track this more in any last
20:24
thoughts that you want to share with us
20:26
I think the biggest thing is that as we
20:31
go through life and we achieve certain
20:33
things we also achieve the
20:36
responsibility to show up more as more
20:39
of who we truly are I think when were
20:41
younger and we're still in that
20:42
discovery stage we're willing to take
20:44
the marketing messages and we're willing
20:46
to try them and we're willing to do a
20:48
lot of things that when you get past 40
20:50
and certainly past 50 I know for me I
20:52
think 50 was kind of the turning point
20:54
that said oh I'm just done with that and
20:57
I'm in the business but I'm very
20:59
discerning about who and how I want to
21:02
show up and how I believe you know women
21:05
can be their best at every stage and if
21:09
it means that you don't want to wear
21:10
Spanx anymore then let's find a way that
21:13
you don't have to if you've been wearing
21:14
them all this behind not just going to
21:16
the gym 10 hours a day and let's figure
21:19
out what actually works in our lives
21:21
from where we are because no matter what
21:23
we do the best we can do is be the best
21:27
we can be and that requires comfort amen
21:31
amen I mean how wonderful would it be if
21:35
you could wake up every single morning
21:36
put on those clothes that make you feel
21:40
amazing and comfortable and make you
21:42
feel however you want to feel and be
21:44
able to go out and face the day that's
21:46
what you need a Lauren solid like a
21:48
chance to it that way I think I need a
21:50
warrant Solomon for I get confused with
21:51
the cameras here because it's because
21:54
you know sometimes we can't do it alone
21:56
and we need some help go check her out
21:59
go check her out I'm going to put it up
22:01
one more time a tangle of element com
22:04
Lauren I want to thank you for taking
22:06
time today to be with us I'm so
22:09
appreciative
22:09
you know I have so many amazing people
22:12
that I can call friends in my network
22:14
and it's because of you and people like
22:17
you that I'm able to create this little
22:20
white like movement I couldn't I can't
22:23
do this by myself I do it with the
22:26
greater greater community so want to say
22:29
you again and I want to thank our
22:30
viewers don't forget to make comments
22:32
and keep it going the conversation is
22:34
going to keep on going i know the lauren
22:35
will go back in there and make some
22:37
comments i definitely will go back there
22:38
and make some comments and look for the
22:40
blog post next week on this show and go
22:43
check out the little white wine calm
22:45
because all my blog posts are there
22:48
answer the questions get involved
22:50
because this is a community you are the
22:53
community it's not me it's us so we'll
22:57
see you next time on the next episode of
22:59
the little white lie to buy everyone
