0:00
how can you feel powerful at any age
0:02
that question and so much more on the
0:05
next episode of the little white lie
0:08
hello everyone it's karen Glasser and
0:10

0:31

0:33
the way grown out but here you go if you
0:38

0:40
visit the little white lie comm and if
0:43
you are going to share or comment or or
0:47
make anything out there make sure you
0:50
put the hashtag l WL so today we were
0:54
talking about the statement how can you
0:58
at any age well our very special guest
1:01
Morris weenie she's as a child she
1:03
dreamed of traveling the world and
1:05
making new friends and as a matter of
1:07
fact she just came back from traveling
1:09
the world so you you create what you
1:11
think she left the matrix at age 23 to
1:15
pioneer her own path to happiness
1:17
passion and power and today she's an
1:20
author a podcaster she also is a
1:23
contributor to Huff Post who's been
1:25
featured hundreds of times in the media
1:27
for her views on influencer leadership
1:29
and identity and she also is an
1:32
international speaker as I just said
1:33
she's been all around the world and I
1:35
hope that she talks a little bit about
1:36
where she was this last time and who she
1:38
spoke for she's also the trademark
1:41
ambassador of happiness how cool is that
1:44
and what's really important to note
1:46
about Mara is that she has accomplished
1:48
all of this it has been self created
1:51
self generated and self styled guess
1:54
what starting at age 50 so without
1:57
further ado I would like to bring in our
2:00
special guest Laura Sweeney hello there
2:03
hi Karen thank you for having
2:07
I'm thrilled to be here today oh my gosh
2:09
I you know we've been talking about
2:11
doing this I think for over six months
2:13
at this point and partly your schedule
2:16
you've been all around the world and
2:18
we're going to talk about that but
2:19
somebody wants to say hello to you so
2:21
I'm gonna put it on up here Yvonne heats
2:23
and she's saying hello date to you and
2:25
to me hello Karen from Coca Canada
2:29
welcome so glad that you're here so
2:32
before we start the show I always ask my
2:34
guests what their little white lie is so
2:36
Mara what is your little white lie
2:39
take it away oh this is very easy and
2:42
very appropriate for this show my little
2:45
white lie is that I started getting gray
2:48
hair at the age of 15 one-five and I
2:52
started coloring it by my mid-20s I am
2:55
all white but unfortunately I don't look
2:57
as beautiful as you do at that that is
3:01
hysterical well you've got me because I
3:04
didn't start going white till I was 30
3:06
but you know I mean that's part of the
3:08
whole idea of the little white light
3:10
it's not that you should have and here's
3:12
what comes to mind I think many women
3:14
hear the word power or powerful and they
3:18
conjure up these ideas of what do men
3:21
look like who were powerful when they
3:23
were growing up or when they were going
3:25
through the decades and they think of
3:26
domineering they think of taking over
3:29
and you know this is one interesting
3:31
thing I've had women tell me that when
3:34
they got into the workforce they started
3:36
taking on all of those same attitudes
3:37
for me power has nothing to do with
3:40
domineering or taken over other people
3:42
but it's the whole idea of year of
3:45
living inside your own energy and then
3:49
exuding it everywhere you go from the
3:52
inside out which is why I always use
3:53
that mantra living happy from the inside
3:56
your energy is your power I love that
4:00
I look I have to just ask you you're the
4:02
ambassador of happiness weird how did
4:05
you get that title and how cool is that
4:08
you know I actually made the decision as
4:10
a small child I was gonna grow up to be
4:12
happy and I was going to grow up to be
4:15
free even though it supposed to be
4:16
growing up to be a lawyer but that was
4:19
I wasn't really happy as a child I
4:21
always felt like I was in a box but I
4:23
got the title or the name when I was
4:28
invited to speak at the inaugural Nelson
4:30
Mandela Day celebrations outside our
4:33
nation's capital it was hosted by the
4:35
UNESCO Center for Peace and they wanted
4:38
to know my title and I said well it's
4:39
just me and they said we have to give
4:42
you a title and they realized I travel
4:45
the world I wrote about what makes us
4:47
feel happy from the inside out and that
4:50
was the United they said we've got it
4:51
you're the ambassador of happiness and
4:53
once everybody heard it it was like
4:55
Maura that's exactly what you are is
4:58
they said go trade market so now I'm
5:01
official I love that Maura that is an
5:04
amazing story and it just goes to the
5:07
power of the mind right you're just out
5:08
there doing your thing and look what
5:11
happens you know what thanks for saying
5:13
that care because I am so much about the
5:15
mind you would think like looking at me
5:17
I'm animated that I'm an outside person
5:19
but really everything I am started from
5:21
the inside and I really envisioned
5:24
myself the Goodwill Ambassador as a
5:26
child I didn't have a title for it and I
5:29
think that whole everything that I ever
5:31
did was all in preparation for these
5:34
things I'm doing today so again I made
5:36
it up out of my own minds well it was a
5:39
very nice place in there Kim Castle said
5:41
love that me too hi I just really I
5:44
really like this so okay I'm kind of a
5:46
structure girl and I'm a list maker and
5:48
in surprise for anybody that knows me
5:50
but are there steps to developing your
5:53
power I mean is there like a checklist
5:55
if I do this and I do this is there such
5:58
a thing I've never thought about it as a
6:01
checklist but I do have a couple of
6:03
first of all spend a little bit of time
6:07
every day by yourself and with yourself
6:09
do you know most of us are always
6:11
getting all of our ideas from everybody
6:13
else and then we mistake their ideas for
6:15
our ideas their values for our values
6:18
and their stuff for our stuff so I would
6:21
say spend even a couple of minutes every
6:23
day by yourself and say to yourself
6:25
whether it's the morning or the evening
6:27
what do I feel good about right now what
6:29
am i enjoying what makes me feel
6:32
makes me feel disempowered hi April I
6:35
know I feel painful crudos in there for
6:39
April who introduced us live here Thank
6:41
You April April the next thing I would
6:45
say is never you always have this choice
6:47
in every situation am I making myself
6:50
into a victim or am i turning myself
6:53
into a beneficiary and if more than
6:55
anything caring that has carried me
6:58
through life because it's a little child
7:00
I used to feel like a victim I can't do
7:02
this I can't go there and I used to
7:05
think I am miserable being this way so I
7:07
need to say how can I turn this around
7:10
to something good and a beneficiary
7:12
mindset is I may not like where I am
7:14
right now but whatever it is this is
7:16
working together for something good
7:19
which is where you get beneficiary from
7:21
goodie love bad that is power that is
7:23
such power I kid you not
7:26
those are great great great tips okay so
7:30
now you have one more no I could give
7:33
you more I could keep talking on
7:34
anything carrying those you've been
7:36
commenting down there let's look little
7:38
bit more give us one more I'm going to
7:40
look through the comments and then I'm
7:41
gonna put some stuff up here you know
7:45
what else I'm gonna give is another one
7:46
that I love get out of your comfort zone
7:49
if you want to know your power step out
7:52
of your comfort zone so many of us want
7:55
to do things we have an idea we have
7:57
where maybe we're creatives maybe
7:59
there's something we never did before we
8:01
have to give ourselves permission to
8:04
step out of the comfort zone just say
8:05
I'm gonna give it a try I'm gonna give
8:07
it a whirl and you know it's in the
8:08
doing of it that we get our power we
8:12
lose our fear to me overcome
8:14
insecurities we become far more
8:16
forgiving of ourselves we grow in
8:18
knowledge natural confidence and there
8:21
it is that's a biggie that is a huge one
8:24
and you left that one for the last oh my
8:26
gosh all right and by the way since I
8:28
could do this because I guess we could
8:30
do anything on your show I wrote a book
8:32
about exiting the comfort zone and
8:33
anybody who wants to write to me you
8:36
figure out how they could do it they
8:37
could write Mora out more for you calm
8:39
or they could do for you it doesn't
8:41
matter if they've been your idol right
8:43
applause all right I will send the
8:46
the book exiting the comfort zone it's
8:49
all it's all for them on gaining their
8:51
map number four right for number four
8:54
maura number four letter you calm calm
8:57
okay guys and putting it up on the
8:59
screen you just heard it here first
9:01
you're gonna get a complimentary copy
9:03
sent directly to you from our thanks
9:05
Laura thank you that's very very nice
9:07
thank you doing things I appreciate that
9:09
I really appreciate that okay so I know
9:13
that you have been you just got back you
9:16
were all around the world I mean you
9:18
were speaking everywhere tell us a
9:19
little bit about your journey I thought
9:21
you were on television you were what
9:24
were you doing again I made it up but I
9:27
was Bob I joined my husband thank God
9:30
for this man who could get me from point
9:32
A to B to C today we were gone for about
9:35
four weeks and we went to Albania
9:37
Macedonia Kosovo Serbia and Greece and I
9:41
spoke in 15 venues to leadership
9:45
conferences universities to American
9:48
embassy outposts oh gosh a woman's
9:51
entrepreneur group and I was on national
9:54
TV in three of those places so it was a
9:56
busy time I loved it I met new people
9:59
plus I got together with other people I
10:01
already knew and Here I am I'm literally
10:04
doing everything I love getting to meet
10:06
new people being in different
10:07
environments sharing ideas hopefully
10:10
inspiring people and who's fun I
10:14
literally I'm this I'm in awe of you
10:17
actually because you you created
10:19
something out of what started as a trip
10:22
with your husband I'm gathering to go oh
10:24
I say I joins him because he literally
10:28
could figure out how to get me on
10:29
special buses and and everything but no
10:32
he sends me on my own to well in a
10:35
couple of months I'll be going back to
10:36
The Hague to speak again at a Women's
10:39
Conference and so our viewers it's clear
10:43
you need to get to know Maura
10:45
okay need to get to know her and one of
10:48
the things that I want to bring up right
10:49
now is that more I know you have a
10:51
special it's hate that we use the word
10:53
offer but but you you have a program
10:55
it's called foundations of having
10:57
why don't you tell us a little bit about
10:59
it and I'm gonna actually put a link at
11:01
the bottom here it's you can its
11:03
hyperlink you can click on it you're
11:05
giving 50% off the program to our
11:07
viewers so why don't you tell us a
11:08
little bit about the program okay it's
11:10
very it's a self-study course and I
11:13
actually had to put it together because
11:15
so many people after hearing me speak or
11:17
reading some of my blogs or listening to
11:19
my podcast would say Maura I hear you
11:21
but I need to know more of the house how
11:23
do I take myself from where I am to
11:25
where I want to be how do I have more
11:27
power how do I feel more like my
11:29
authentic self so instead of being a
11:31
one-on-one coach I just created this
11:33
program it is it is totally immersive
11:36
there things to read like as in stories
11:39
there are videos to watch there are
11:41
audios to listen to and what it is this
11:44
self-study course that goes into your
11:46
mind what are your thoughts about what's
11:49
the narrative you've given to yourself
11:50
maybe what are some unforgiveness issues
11:53
where do you want to grow what did you
11:55
always want to be how do you change
11:57
where you've been and even should we
12:01
reposition the fabric and the design of
12:04
your life and use all of those elements
12:05
the good the bad the things you thought
12:08
were wonderful and the things you
12:09
thought were terrible and put them
12:11
together and reposition yourself into
12:14
something new and fresh and authentic
12:16
empowering and most of all happy and I
12:19
think the happiness really comes from
12:22
being free to be yourself and express
12:24
yourself I love that you know what when
12:27
I grow up I want to be you I want to
12:29
have what you're having I truly do I
12:31
want to have what you're having you
12:32
really inspire me you inspire me by your
12:34
ability just to get out there and do
12:36
what you're doing and getting out of
12:38
your own backyard and as my good friend
12:40
Joey Garrity likes to say the
12:41
uncomfortable is the new comfortable and
12:44
sometimes we just have to be
12:46
uncomfortable go visit more on her
12:48
website you can also visit her via
12:51
Twitter and if you want to go check her
12:53
out on Facebook here is all of her her
12:57
facebook link it's it's there's no
12:59
should not be two little dots there so
13:01
please disregard it should be FB com
13:04
/for for you and go check her out there
13:07
any last words you want to share with
13:11
we say goodbye because we we have
13:13
already ran out of time
13:14
oh my gosh I knew it was gonna be so
13:15
quick but good Karen I would say for
13:18
anybody who's listening today there will
13:21
never be another you and the world has
13:23
been waiting for you so what things you
13:26
have within you that you want to explore
13:28
that you want to express give yourself
13:31
permission today to do it and to step
13:34
out of that comfort zone and if you
13:35
don't give yourself permission know that
13:37
I just gave it to you how's that is a
13:39
good clothes that's a great clothes but
13:40
we're actually gonna say we're big fat
13:42
liars because I have a question here
13:43
from evil rubber and if you can take a
13:45
couple of minutes maybe let's we look at
13:47
this and see if we can give her some
13:48
tips what should people do who don't
13:50
like to do anything by themselves you
13:52
have any tips for people who find
13:54
themselves wanting to transform with an
13:56
accountability partner any tips oh see
14:00
with this they don't like to do anything
14:03
by themselves do you know I used to feel
14:05
that was the model you had to do
14:07
something with other people and I'm
14:09
gonna tell you why I became something
14:10
else is because I wanted to be a
14:12
positive model for my daughter I
14:14
purposely made myself go to events
14:17
sometimes it was social events sometimes
14:18
it was networking events sometimes just
14:20
to the theater I would go all by myself
14:22
and I would learn to make myself
14:24
comfortable and guess what now I have to
14:27
there were times that maybe I'm going
14:30
somewhere my husband said hey you wanna
14:31
invite so-and-so to go with you and I
14:32
think no I don't want them to slow me
14:34
down just do it I love it start small
14:39
great at the great answer and I want to
14:41
thank you because it's a great way to
14:42
kind of come to a close for this show we
14:44
want to thank everyone for taking time
14:46
out of your busy schedule to spend it
14:48
with us cuz we know you have choices
14:50
we're busy out there thank you for
14:52
sharing it with us we will see you next
14:54
time on the next episode of a little
14:57
white lie goodbye everyone
