life remix to the author's spotlight a
0:32
little bit about mark
0:34
as an international house music dj and
0:36
record producer
0:38
mark wilkinson was living a dream life
0:40
he was traveling the world
0:42
sharing his passion of music and
0:44
enjoying success with a top 10 hit
0:46
until one day at the age of 33 he
0:49
collapsed in pain and was unable to walk
0:51
for 18 months i can't even
0:53
even imagine that diagnosed with an
0:55
incurable disease the challenges he
0:57
experienced
0:58
eventually led to depression loneliness
1:00
bankruptcy and
1:01
suicidal thoughts at rock bottom mark
1:05
made a decision to remix his life and he
1:07
now owns multiple businesses as well as
1:09
working as a wealth business and life
1:11
coach
1:12
author and speaker so without further
1:15
ado
1:15
we're going to welcome mark to the show
1:18
hey mark how you doing
1:19
hey karen i'm great thank you thank you
1:21
having me on i'm so excited that you're
1:23
on and first of all let's just say
1:24
congratulations
1:26
on the release of your book life remix
1:28
how does it feel to be
1:29
this published author that you are now
1:31
it's amazing it's absolutely amazing
1:33
something that i've dreamed of for
1:34
probably 10 years or more uh about you
1:36
know book two probably needs to be a bit
1:38
quicker but this one
1:39
has been a long dream and uh i've really
1:42
enjoyed the process and i've tried a few
1:44
times to write it and it hasn't quite
1:46
panned out and then this time
1:47
i just got it right and it just flowed
1:49
it was amazing so
1:51
you know tell us a little bit about why
1:52
you decided to write this book i know
1:54
this is actually your story
1:56
um why was it so important for you to
1:58
tell this story uh
1:59
i want to help other people not go
2:01
through the crisis that i've been
2:02
through i mean
2:03
an incurable disease when the doctor
2:05
tells you that and then bankrupt uh you
2:07
know from the back of that as well
2:09
comes really you know those were
2:10
horrible challenging moments at the time
2:13
uh you know i look back at it now and i
2:14
actually think to myself well they were
2:16
actually blessings because they allowed
2:17
me to change to grow
2:19
to learn to try a different way to do
2:21
different things
2:23
uh and so it was just it was just
2:26
uh an opportunity i think to help other
2:28
people that's the real basic behind it i
2:30
love people you know i'm a huge people
2:32
person i'm a massive socializer i'm a dx
2:34
dj you know still do a bit of dj
2:36
so um you know i love bringing joy to
2:39
people and and i want people to
2:41
learn you know and learn the basic
2:43
strategies that i learned that i put in
2:44
life remix to recover from a crisis
2:47
so as i said this is your story you
2:49
literally took everything that happened
2:51
to you and you
2:51
you became a success story so to speak
2:54
of your own
2:55
making um so you had some
2:58
amazing you have some amazing mentors
3:00
and i know that you were inspired uh by
3:02
the film the secret
3:03
which is a wonderful wonderful movie um
3:06
what it particularly inspired you about
3:09
the movie that
3:10
that you actually go out of your way to
3:12
say i'm inspired by this movie and this
3:14
got me going tell me a little bit about
3:16
that
3:16
i think the secret uh was you know
3:18
there's a great there's a great phrase
3:20
that says uh when the student is ready
3:22
the teacher will come
3:23
and i wasn't uh i hadn't been listening
3:26
to my body for many years i'd had
3:27
stomach cramps and problems and
3:28
basically early inflammation
3:30
sign i hadn't actually dealt with them
3:33
and i just continued doing what i was
3:34
doing and the
3:35
addictions and everything else that are
3:36
all documented in the book were all in
3:38
there
3:38
uh and um i really uh
3:42
i went up for a detox in scotland
3:43
because i was trying to like work out my
3:45
stomach problems and trying to sort out
3:46
what was happening
3:47
and an early mentor of mine brian he's
3:49
kind of like yoda to my
3:51
luke skywalker if that if you will uh
3:53
and he basically said um
3:55
he said he gave me a dvd as it was at
3:57
the time of the secret he said here
3:58
watch this i said okay i watched it once
4:01
took it back downstairs and said here
4:02
you go no no go and watch it again and i
4:05
was like
4:06
twice in one day you off your head okay
4:08
so i went and did it and then i tried to
4:09
give it back to him again and he said no
4:11
no
4:12
you need to watch that 100 times mark
4:14
and i was a bit like
4:15
really but something happened the more i
4:18
watched it
4:19
i i recognized this earlier but then the
4:22
more i watched it i was repetition as
4:23
masters i've since
4:24
learned the more i watched it and the
4:26
more i watched it i became very aware of
4:28
bob proctor
4:29
and marty scharmoff who by the way have
4:31
both endorsed life remix which is
4:32
amazing
4:33
yeah um but bob proctor said a dis-ease
4:35
is two separate words and you must put a
4:37
hyphen in there
4:38
but a doctor just ate well six months
4:41
before that or maybe less even
4:42
had said to me bad luck you've got an
4:44
incurable disease it's in your genes
4:45
you're always going to get it take these
4:47
drugs and you should be okay
4:48
but bob was saying it's a disease and if
4:51
you've got a disease hyphenated then you
4:53
cannot have an
4:54
i'm sorry you cannot have a disease in
4:55
your body if your mind and your
4:57
and your feelings and everything are at
4:59
ease so interesting
5:01
yeah that was that was kind of i was
5:02
like whoa whoa mind-blown
5:05
mind-blown most of why i've never heard
5:07
this before and second of all
5:09
what tell me more
5:12
so i mean you're mentioning you're name
5:14
dropping right now right your name
5:15
brought me you said
5:16
bob proctor marcie marcy's time off and
5:19
you've got
5:19
other people that have uh not just
5:22
spoken highly about you but put you put
5:24
their name on your book talk
5:26
talk to it that's pretty impressive yeah
5:28
i mean i was talking to hashmark just
5:29
the other day to judy and she said that
5:31
this never happened before
5:32
uh yeah bob's endorsed the book marcy's
5:34
endorsed the book uh
5:36
judy and peggy mccoll have both endorsed
5:38
the book
5:39
and the list goes on and on i've got
5:40
ex-professional footballers on there
5:42
i've got
5:42
harry singer i've got kevin green who's
5:44
a multi-millionaire in the uk that i do
5:46
some work with and and
5:47
really enjoy coaching with uh i've got
5:50
uh
5:51
numerous people all old dj friends of
5:53
mine even my mum and my brother
5:55
oh well they're they're that's the most
5:57
and that's the most important but what
5:58
do you
5:59
think is the reason that so many great
6:02
thinkers
6:03
and are saying i want to make sure that
6:06
people because that's what they're doing
6:07
by putting their their name on it they
6:09
want people to read your book
6:10
what do you think is their their their
6:13
reason for that i mean it's
6:15
obviously it's a great book but what is
6:16
it that struck a chord with them that
6:18
they all came out of the woodwork to say
6:21
read this book well what's interesting
6:23
is well i've got to mention danny
6:24
ramplin who's one of the pioneers of
6:25
house music in the uk who's put
6:27
he's written a part one of the forward
6:29
lewis senior an executive coach with
6:31
equilibria who coached chevron
6:32
across all of the states in the world uh
6:34
you know these guys have written parts
6:36
of the forward to the book as is kevin
6:38
i think they've all responded to my
6:40
energy over the years
6:41
you know danny's known me the longest
6:43
then lewis has known me
6:44
uh ten years and kevin's known me three
6:46
or four years and those guys have
6:48
written
6:48
forwards to the book all these other
6:49
people you know i've i've
6:51
i've been through some tough times you
6:53
know and there's times i've written in
6:54
the book and there's people that
6:55
one of my old dj friends said i was
6:57
there for all the fun rocky
6:59
i was there for all the fun and then i
7:01
never knew how bad it got for mark and
7:03
it's an inspirational read because
7:04
i didn't realize do you think yeah do
7:07
you think it's because you made yourself
7:08
vulnerable i mean you literally put
7:10
yourself out there in this book you you
7:12
just
7:13
this is my story and learn from it
7:17
i mean the first two or three chapters
7:19
are are literally you know
7:26
um but then everything else is
7:29
strategies
7:30
how i recovered from the the disaster
7:32
from the collapse and
7:34
and the financial collapse and the
7:35
physical collapse and everything uh and
7:37
all of these strategies that are in
7:38
there
7:39
i'm not it's not i'm not some genius
7:40
who's just come up with them i've been
7:42
taught them
7:43
and then i've just channeled them out
7:44
and gone well here's my take on it
7:46
this is what i think that you can do and
7:48
and it's very timely because at the end
7:50
of the day the world's
7:51
going to be responding and coming out
7:52
yeah exactly and you know you said that
7:55
you watched the secret over and over and
7:56
over again not by your choice
7:58
because they said you know yuki have to
7:59
keep watching same thing and
8:01
and you might had several conversations
8:03
about this in the past about think and
8:04
grow rich that's another one that
8:06
you cannot read it too many times would
8:08
you agree
8:09
i mean i literally open the book every
8:11
year at the beginning of the year
8:13
and i just i read it just because i'd
8:16
say
8:16
repetition is mastery i've got bob's
8:18
book here i've got louise hayes book
8:20
here i've got happy for no reason by
8:22
marcy i mean i've got books i'm
8:24
surrounded by
8:25
incredibly talented authors because
8:27
although the message
8:28
can be very very similar for all of them
8:30
they've all got a slight different way
8:31
of taking it
8:32
and slightly different stories and
8:34
that's what i've done i've said look
8:35
you know i'm a dj right i'm a man who
8:37
made records you know people used to say
8:39
to me what's your
8:40
purpose i'll be like well i'll be like
8:42
oh i'll play i'll play a few records
8:44
and then he dropped the books there i
8:45
said uh you know i play a few records
8:47
and people dance
8:48
i haven't got a purpose that's all i do
8:50
and then before i started to think about
8:52
it that's when i started to
8:53
create a life purpose so okay so the
8:56
book
8:57
clearly shares how you overcome
8:59
challenges and
9:00
make positive changes can you give us an
9:02
example of one of those
9:04
positive changes uh yeah absolutely i
9:06
mean there's a couple of phrases that
9:08
just jump out into my mind
9:09
uh one of them is if you knew the power
9:11
of a negative thought you'd never have
9:12
another one
9:14
uh which i think is a very it's just
9:16
something i came up with because the
9:17
the negative patterns are the ones that
9:19
they're the ones that took me down into
9:21
this pain and all pain has a message and
9:23
one of the other ones i would say is
9:25
calm down
9:26
and speed up and what i've found is is
9:28
the karma i've become over the last
9:30
10 to 15 years uh you know i cut out all
9:33
the toxins out of my body and so i don't
9:35
drink alcohol anymore and i cleared up
9:37
cleaned myself up completely
9:39
uh and uh and what i found is that life
9:42
is going
9:42
quicker and quicker and quicker in a
9:44
beautiful way because it's
9:46
the pace of life is just it's just
9:48
freaking because i can do more i have
9:50
more energy
9:50
but i'm so much calmer and that's a good
9:54
piece of advice
9:55
very good piece of advice and guys you
9:57
heard it here first
9:58
um you know so let's get back into the
10:00
process of writing a book i'm sure that
10:02
people that are watching this maybe
10:04
themselves have a book inside of them
10:05
let's talk about how you write a book
10:07
how many
10:07
how many hours a day do you write well
10:11
um the absolute truth is this book i i
10:13
kind of
10:14
tongue in cheek i say this book's been
10:16
50 years in the makings that's how old i
10:17
am
10:18
it's been it's been 10 years of an idea
10:20
uh it's been a year to write and six
10:22
months to
10:23
promote and now it's come now it's come
10:24
out so um you know probably book two
10:27
needs to be a bit quicker like i said
10:28
but i i make sure that because i'm
10:30
running multiple businesses and doing
10:32
multiple things all the time i just make
10:33
sure that i've definitely got
10:34
hours put aside so a couple of hours
10:36
during the week and three hours maybe on
10:38
a saturday morning
10:39
and i just i did that when i was in the
10:41
corporate world recovering from the
10:42
bankruptcy and that's how i've got
10:44
masters now in
10:45
uh management and leadership and i'm
10:46
gonna do a phd next to something that i
10:48
wanted it's the journey from dj to
10:50
dr right to doctor you know it's
10:53
it's all part of it but you put the time
10:55
aside and you get organized
10:57
uh then things can start to flow a lot
11:00
easier
11:01
so it's structure so you literally put a
11:03
structure in place
11:04
to write so i have to say i have to i
11:06
have to pay homage here as well to my
11:08
wife because i'm not the most structured
11:09
bloke right
11:10
uh i'm kind of energy and you know
11:12
people and buzz and all that kind of
11:14
stuff
11:15
and uh i when i left my last corporate
11:16
job almost three years ago
11:18
uh i got home and my wife had put a big
11:20
poster up saying congratulations you
11:22
know
11:22
like you know she said to me what about
11:24
what you're going to do about this book
11:25
because i tried it a few times and it
11:26
hadn't really worked
11:27
and she said right sit down and she said
11:29
write me out like you know timeline of
11:31
everything
11:32
and then give me you know break down
11:33
everything and then just and somehow i
11:35
look at it now
11:36
i'm kind of reading it now going oh this
11:38
is this is actually good you know and
11:40
it's like it's 14 chapters
11:41
it almost feels like i didn't write it
11:42
it almost feels like a separate well you
11:44
know
11:45
maybe can you like loan your wife out
11:47
because clearly
11:48
she did a good job with you that that's
11:50
that's actually so
11:52
when you're writing does it energize you
11:54
or are you exhausted
11:55
at when you finish writing oh no i love
11:57
it i love it i i'm uplifted by writing
11:59
i'm uploaded
12:00
i i decided what my purpose was going
12:02
back slightly to the purpose thing
12:05
bob proctor martie shine off all these
12:07
people in the secret all the great
12:08
teachers everyone
12:09
always like what's your purpose what's
12:10
your purpose i was like i don't know
12:13
and so i kind of put two and two
12:15
together one day i had a bit of a light
12:16
bulb moment because i was in
12:18
manchester talking to some students and
12:20
about 10 of them stayed behind to thank
12:22
me for sharing my story
12:24
my mid-thirties and i got the same
12:27
feeling the same uplifting kind of like
12:28
feeling of like
12:29
those lovely ten students saying thank
12:31
you to me
12:33
as i did when i had a thousand people on
12:35
the dance floor like celebrating
12:36
it's exactly the same feeling and i just
12:38
went oh
12:40
right i love to bring joy to other
12:43
people
12:44
so if i love to bring joy to other
12:45
people then i started to develop my
12:47
purpose into joy and knowledge inspire
12:49
create and that's where everything came
12:50
from you know
12:52
so do you have a tip that you would
12:55
share one tip if if you met somebody
12:57
you know in a coffee shop or during the
13:00
show somebody
13:01
writes you a message and say what is one
13:03
tip you can give and it's
13:04
an inspiring uh writer to get started
13:08
and i'm going to put you on solo for
13:09
that i would say
13:11
uh it's very important as i said about
13:13
the structure it's very important to
13:14
then break it down into bite-sized
13:16
chunks
13:17
and it doesn't have to be perfect you
13:19
know you've just got to get it out onto
13:21
paper nowadays with word with microsoft
13:23
word even on my mac
13:24
you can hit the double hit the fn button
13:26
and you can just speak it
13:28
into word it won't punctuate it for you
13:30
but you'll get your ideas out onto paper
13:32
you know
13:32
later down the track an editor can get
13:34
involved other people can get involved
13:36
but you've if you've got a concept an
13:38
idea a gift you've got something you
13:40
want to share
13:40
something that you think will help other
13:42
people and the biggest thing of all
13:44
is add value you know find those pain
13:47
points in people's lives and then add
13:49
value to other people's lives and things
13:52
will be good for you
13:54
i i like to say see the need fill the
13:56
need right
13:57
see the need and fill the need if you're
13:59
just tuning in we are
14:00
talking with mark wilkinson about his
14:03
new book life remixed i
14:07
am thrilled for you um if you want to go
14:09
pick up a copy of the book
14:10
which you should you're going to notice
14:13
that right in the comments right now
14:14
there is a
14:15
link for you to go click and we'll take
14:17
you right over to the bookstore to pick
14:19
up mark's book again congratulations on
14:23
that it is quite the
14:25
accomplishment so do you have an
14:27
interesting quirk when you write
14:30
i've been told that all authors have
14:32
something that they do that's different
14:34
from everybody else well i would say
14:36
that we're all unique
14:37
i mean we're all utterly unique you know
14:39
i think i think many people be really
14:41
down on themselves i know before we
14:43
spoke about people talking about
14:44
writer's block and stuff like that i
14:46
mean i've never i've never
14:47
suffered with i've already done one book
14:48
though by mind you i mean you know peggy
14:50
mccoll's done 19 so i've got a bit of
14:52
work to do to catch up with her
14:55
you know i think you are unique you have
14:57
a story to share
14:59
uh whatever's happened to you hasn't
15:00
happened to other people or if it has
15:02
happened in different ways so
15:03
get out there and actually decide what
15:05
your purpose is hold your vision
15:07
and get your goals moving towards your
15:09
you know take your steps towards
15:11
uh towards the achievement that you
15:12
would love to achieve
15:15
and don't worry you know it's just have
15:17
faith you know
15:18
and have fun and have fun while you're
15:20
doing it too if it's not then i say why
15:22
bother right
15:23
um have you read a lot during this last
15:25
year with quarantine or you've been just
15:27
busy doing
15:28
what you do so well and that's coaching
15:30
and you wrote your own book have you
15:31
read any books
15:32
do you have a favor that you read in
15:34
quarantine i i read a lot of books
15:36
over and over and over again and i
15:38
actually use a lot of books in my
15:39
coaching so
15:40
i've got james allen as a man thinking
15:42
that i've been reading the serenity
15:44
chapter at the end to a couple of
15:45
clients recently about
15:46
the more serene you are the more calm
15:48
down speed up right the more calm you
15:50
are
15:50
more people will be drawn to you and the
15:52
more successful you will all be together
15:54
so
15:55
i'm reading that marcie shiremoff he's
15:57
coming onto my show in a couple of weeks
15:58
so i'm rereading happy for no reason so
16:00
that's exciting
16:01
um and so and bob proctor is not about
16:03
the money because
16:05
i've been listening to the audiobook
16:06
this afternoon uh while i've been out
16:09
it's it's literally you know you can't
16:11
get enough of this stuff
16:12
you know you cannot get enough of you've
16:14
got to get that information
16:15
through past your conscious thoughts and
16:17
into your subconscious mind
16:19
so you just operate from automatically
16:21
almost on a habit
16:23
because there's so many belief systems
16:24
that can stop you
16:26
and and you've got to get through those
16:28
to be able to be creative you know
16:29
stop getting in your own way right not
16:32
getting in your own way you mentioned
16:33
that you have a show
16:34
um and so um what's the show called and
16:38
once this once we send this out to
16:40
everyone through a blog post we'll make
16:41
put a link in it to the show but what is
16:44
your show about
16:45
so i go live quite a lot throughout the
16:46
week uh i've got a show called straight
16:48
talking on a wednesday evening 7 30 p.m
16:51
gmt here in london
16:52
and um i i invite interesting people on
16:55
there karen you must come on there at
16:57
some point but
17:00
i invite interesting people to come onto
17:01
the show and talk about
17:03
various things the last few have been
17:04
some of my old friends from the record
17:06
shop days and the dj days
17:08
some remedy but then also some
17:10
discussions about how to remix your life
17:12
and how to get through challenges
17:13
because
17:14
you know every i think every dj when we
17:16
were young we didn't care we didn't
17:17
think
17:18
about anything long term we were just
17:19
like a party and then
17:21
all of a sudden the reality kicks in for
17:23
many of us
17:24
i mean mine was mine was uh you know
17:26
disease and bankruptcy and nature's
17:27
handbrake made me stop
17:29
but actually everyone's got a story so
17:32
um i love bringing out the story out of
17:34
other people you know and i'm getting a
17:35
huge response from it and uh
17:37
i know people are really really enjoying
17:38
it so that makes me feel good because
17:39
it's part of my purpose to bring joy
17:41
right
17:41
so right absolutely all of our friends
17:44
that you're watching here whether you're
17:46

18:14
everywhere
18:15
and don't forget to go pick up a copy of
18:19
mark's book because you know you need it
18:21
and you know that
18:22
your story is so inspirational and it
18:25
really helps people get
18:26
off the dime and and do something and
18:29
change their life because you know you
18:31
said something at least i think
18:32
is very important what you think is what
18:35
will actually show up so if you think
18:38
positive thoughts and you think
18:39
positive in terms of forward moving i
18:42
agree with you 100
18:43
you're gonna you're gonna get that
18:45
support you need if all you have coming
18:46
out of your head is negativity
18:49
that's what you're gonna attract right
18:51
you can't have a positive happy healthy
18:53
life
18:53
if you've got loads of negative thoughts
18:55
and beliefs and emotions it just doesn't
18:57
exactly it won't work exactly
