0:56
well i am just so excited to have you on
0:58

1:01
off i want to congratulate you on
1:03
becoming an
1:04
international bestseller for your book
1:06
how exciting is that what did you
1:08
celebrate
1:10
i did i did celebrate i'm still
1:12
celebrating today and
1:13
you know a lot of people ask me about
1:15
celebrating and it's really
1:17
wonderful to have a wonderful feeling
1:19
inside of you
1:20
and that's really the best celebration
1:22
is just being very happy with my
1:24
accomplishment
1:25
and i'm so happy that the book's out
1:27
there now so thank you
1:28
and i'm so excited that you're coming on
1:30
and and kind of
1:32
sort of launching today as well uh the
1:35
book so
1:36
the book is called forever is today and
1:39
um
1:39
first thing i'd like to really ask you
1:41
is um
1:42
tell me how the story first came to be
1:44
did it start as an image or a voice or
1:46
concept dilemma did you wake up in the
1:48
morning at 4 am or 5 a.m in the morning
1:50
and say
1:51
i need to write a book how did this come
1:52
to be
1:54
i've wanted to be an author my entire
1:57
life ever since i was a small girl
1:59
and i've been trying to think of a an
2:02
idea for a book
2:03
that would be reengaging in something
2:05
that's very different
2:06
than what is already out there so i'm an
2:09
avid reader
2:10
i love movies and i was thinking
2:13
of the book as a movie so
2:16
i had an idea and the inspiration behind
2:19
the book is one of my daughters i have
2:22
three and my middle daughter um has
2:24
something going on with her and i
2:26
thought
2:26
this would be very interesting idea for
2:30
a book so i just kept thinking about it
2:32
and thinking about it i love to go out
2:34
for nature walks and really think about
2:36
things and i kept inviting ideas to come
2:39
to me
2:39
and so the day that i figured it out was
2:42
an amazing day and i ran
2:44
home from my walk and i started to write
2:46
and i didn't stop i wrote every day
2:48
until i was done six months
2:51
it's finished so it was wonderful
2:53
awesome that's awesome
2:54
so once you knew what you were doing you
2:56
just you took off and did it
2:58
your main character is joel and b now b
3:01
is your daughter take is it
3:02
is about is your daughter was the um
3:05
the person that you had in the
3:07
background as you decided to create that
3:08
character who's joel
3:11
i would say that joel is me
3:14
i think that many uh he's narrating the
3:17
book
3:17
in first person and i just i think that
3:21
a lot of his ideas
3:24
a lot of his thoughts and emotion is
3:26
really me and
3:28
we all become the people that we spend
3:31
our most amount of time with and the
3:33
people that we love and
3:34
keep in our lives are those people so i
3:36
would say that not only is it me but
3:38
it's little pieces of everybody in my
3:40
life that i love and
3:42
the the best parts of them are joel
3:45
what a wonderful legacy that you leave
3:48
for your family if you're just tuning in
3:49
we're talking to janet lynn
3:51
and we're talking about her new book
3:53
forever is today if you have any
3:55
questions you want to ask
3:56
feel free to put them in the comments
3:58
and we will put them up on the screen
4:01
okay so before we went live today we
4:03
were talking about how to read your book
4:05
and you said something really
4:06
interesting you said you know most
4:08
people don't read the epilogue
4:10
and you want people to read the epilogue
4:12
how come i do very much so you'd want to
4:15
start with the prologue and start at
4:17
chapter one after that and go right
4:19
through the book
4:20
something happens and you're left
4:22
feeling
4:23
that like something like you know how
4:25
the book is going to end
4:27
but a real wonderful twist that you
4:29
cannot see coming
4:31
and when you read the epilogue it all
4:34
comes together so don't read it first
4:36
you have to read
4:37
last and you'll be so happy that you did
4:40
i love that so you heard it here
4:41
first and um make sure you let us know
4:45
come on back to the show after you've
4:46
read the book and tell us what you
4:47
thought about
4:48
the surprise that's great now you know
4:51
one of the questions that you ask
4:52
is what would you do if you only had
4:54
today i find that a very
4:56
powerful question and is that where the
4:59
slogan live and possibly comes from or
5:01
is it something completely different
5:02
where did you come up with this
5:04
well the slogan live impossibly is
5:08
basically i i love when people challenge
5:11
me and say
5:12
oh you can't do that i love hearing
5:14
those words
5:15
yet because it really fires me up right
5:18
and
5:18
i i've lived my whole life like that my
5:21
mother said
5:22
that she knew i was going to be a
5:24
difficult child
5:25
to raise because i came out but first
5:27
and
5:28
i have gone through my life just sort of
5:30
doing things my way
5:32
and finding um different ways to go
5:35
about things so i do everything a little
5:36
bit backwards but
5:38
i get the most out of life that way and
5:40
so i really like to invite
5:42
the impossible into my life so that i
5:44
can find ways to
5:46
make it possible and as i mentioned
5:49
before
5:50
or as you mentioned there's a lot of
5:52
things i've gone through in my life that
5:53
were
5:54
basically impossible situations and so
5:56
when i asked people what would you do if
5:58
today was your last day because forever
6:00
really is today
6:01
yesterday is finished and tomorrow is
6:03
not promised
6:05
and i think that for myself i
6:08
like to ask that question because it's
6:10
all about forgiveness and
6:11
if you only had today wouldn't you want
6:14
to forgive all the people who've hurt
6:16
you and wouldn't you want to be forgiven
6:18
so i think that that's a really powerful
6:20
thing
6:21
so true and especially in this world
6:23
that we're living in
6:24
right now where you just don't know from
6:26
moment to moment
6:27
um who might be afflicted by
6:31
the virus or who might what might happen
6:33
tomorrow so i i really love that
6:35
question and i really love the fact
6:37
that we should live in the moment um
6:40
another thing that you say that i'm just
6:42
fascinated with is that you have this
6:44
whole thing
6:45
um thoughts about failure
6:48
do you like failure do you not like
6:50
failure do you think we should fail our
6:51
way to success
6:52
what does failure mean to you be an epic
6:56
failure everyone it's like bring it on
6:59
again it's through our failures that we
7:02
learn
7:02
so i don't think of failure as negative
7:05
at all and i think so many people are
7:07
afraid of failure
7:08
that they're actually missing out on a
7:10
whole life
7:11
for themselves so many experiences and
7:14
opportunities to grow learn
7:16
achieve and to become successful you
7:19
must
7:19
try things you've got to get out of your
7:21
comfort zone
7:22
you've got to start saying yes and
7:24
opening up new doors
7:26
new horizons and i'm just really
7:28
passionate about
7:30
um demonstrating that and talking to
7:33
people about that and
7:35
shaking them a little bit and waking
7:36
them up and saying you know life is
7:38
happening right now today
7:40
and you just if there's something that
7:42
you want to do if this something that
7:44
you've always wanted to
7:46
uh experience just go out there and do
7:49
it and
7:49
your whole life is going to change for
7:51
that i i agree with you i like to say
7:54
failure wasted to success if you're not
7:56
failing
7:57
you're you're you're doing something
7:58
wrong because you
8:00
grow we're talking to janet lynn about
8:02
her new book and i just wanted to put it
8:04
up on the screen it's called forever is
8:06
today
8:07
um there will be a link that goes into
8:09
the comments in just a second if you
8:11
want to go pick up a copy
8:12
i know you do it's an amazing book so go
8:16
check it out
8:17
um and we're going to just keep on going
8:20
i can see that
8:20
that the book is actually sitting in the
8:22
comments right now so
8:24
i always like to ask the authors how
8:26
many hours a day do you write and you
8:28
already told me that you just kept going
8:30
and going and going if you were to go
8:32
and write another book
8:33
at this point how many hours you put in
8:36
every day
8:37
well i actually do have a book on the go
8:39
right now it's in the editing phase and
8:42
it's going to be my first
8:43
non-fiction book and it's going to have
8:45
a global impact and i'm really excited
8:47
about it so
8:48
um in order to keep on with the fresh
8:52
ideas
8:52
i try to minimize my writing time to
8:55
about two hours per day and the most
8:58
important thing for me is just
8:59
consistency to just do it every day so
9:02
some days it might go a little over and
9:04
some days it might be a little less
9:05
but i make sure i write every day and i
9:08
think that that's it
9:09
the consistency is what what gets that
9:12
book out there right
9:13
i mean yeah exactly um
9:16
so does writing energize you i already
9:19
know the answer to this does
9:20
writing because i can tell does writing
9:22
energize you or does it exhaust you
9:25
karen everything that i set out to do
9:28
every day
9:29
is something that energizes my soul and
9:32
that just fills me up
9:33
if it's not gonna do that then i'm not
9:35
going to do it so
9:36
it definitely does and it's just
9:38
sometimes
9:40
you can be tired once you've really put
9:43
something out there
9:44
but the effort and the fatigue it's a
9:47
wonderful feeling and it is energizing
9:49
it's energizing to feel that way it
9:50
feels so good it's like look what i just
9:52
did and
9:53
you can just really be happy about
9:55
accomplishing something
9:57
oh it's so wonderful you know um
10:00
do you have people asking you like what
10:02
tips can you give me about writing a
10:04
book i'm going to put you up on the on
10:05
the screen
10:06
solo so that you can just take over
10:08
right now and what is one of those tips
10:10
or two tips that you'd like to share if
10:11
somebody is thinking i want to write a
10:13
book what would you tell them
10:14
okay hi um one of the
10:18
tips that really helps me if i'm writing
10:20
something that's fiction
10:22
is i try to imagine that i'm watching a
10:24
movie
10:25
i love movies and so i will go
10:28
scene by scene in my mind and i'll just
10:30
start writing and
10:32
and then it just sort of opens up so
10:34
it's really a wonderful thing to do
10:36
if it's non-fiction i think that the
10:39
biggest thing that i can tell you that
10:40
will help you and it has helped me
10:42
a lot you need to believe in yourself
10:45
and it's okay
10:46
if you didn't get your arm bitten off by
10:47
a shark and it's okay if you didn't have
10:50
something
10:51
major happen to you in your life it's
10:53
not about that it's about
10:55
knowing that you have been through a lot
10:57
of different things and you know
10:58
you and you have something that you want
11:00
to share with the world
11:02
and you need to do it so believe in
11:04
yourself and just
11:05
write oh i love that oh i
11:09
i love that totally totally love that
11:12
um do you do anything quirky
11:16
when you're writing your books well um
11:20
i think that i'm usually writing
11:23
in the wee hours of the night that's
11:25
when i find my
11:26
creative side is that so i probably
11:30
do a lot of different things that i'm
11:31
not aware of but again i'd really like
11:34
to see
11:35
the book as a movie and i like to close
11:37
my eyes and imagine
11:38
that i'm that person and just come up
11:41
with some really fun
11:42
things and um i'd say that's kind of
11:45
quirky
11:47
so what is the last book you read
11:50
or maybe more importantly what was the
11:52
best book you read during quarantine
11:54
because we're in quarantine
11:56
um the best book that i read is written
11:59
by
11:59
dr joe dispenza and it's
12:03
something about breaking your habits i
12:05
read so much i
12:07
don't even remember the exact title but
12:09
dr joe dispenza i read a lot of
12:11
non-fiction
12:12
books and um i think it's just a
12:15
marvelous book so
12:16
you're a personal development person i
12:18
read a lot of personal development
12:20
and stuff like motivational books and i
12:22
happen to agree with you on that
12:24
do you have a favorite childhood book
12:27
um when i was a child i was reading
12:29
books that i shouldn't have been reading
12:32
most likely i had a thing for stephen
12:34
king books i have this other side of me
12:37
that
12:37
is just the allure of strange
12:41
happenings and dark things um
12:44
it interests me and it just helps me to
12:47
i think deal with all the things in life
12:49
that aren't wonderful it just helps me
12:51
to
12:52
sort of take them all in and i just like
12:54
the imaginat
12:55
the imagination part of it and just
12:57
losing myself and the
12:59
unreality of stephen king's mind and his
13:02
amazing ideas well you and my son my son
13:06
is a huge stephen king
13:08
follower he i think he's read every
13:10
single book that stephen king is
13:11
has written um i'm just i'm interested
13:15
i'm interested if you know people hear
13:18
about
13:18
writer's block right we hear all the
13:20
time i have a writer what does that
13:21
actually mean
13:22
is that is that when you sit down and
13:25
literally know words
13:26
what does it mean to you and what do we
13:27
tell people if they're saying oh i have
13:29
writer's block what am i gonna i can't
13:30
write
13:32
i'm gonna get into trouble here but i
13:34
don't believe in writer's block there
13:36
you go
13:37
that it's an excuse and if you do
13:40
feel like it's real for you that's okay
13:43
but i would really love to
13:47
have you push through it and really
13:50
fill yourself up with something that
13:52
energizes you listen to some music
13:55
if you're dancing if dancing's your
13:57
thing then do a little dance
13:58
get some ice cream go cook something up
14:01
in the
14:02
kitchen uh have a glass of wine go out
14:05
for a jog just do something
14:07
and come right back to it and just push
14:09
through that barrier
14:10
that feels like writer's block and it
14:12
works every time i guarantee it
14:16
so there are many different ways that
14:17
people can get in touch with you and
14:19
they can
14:19
follow you the first thing i want to
14:20
make sure that people go and visit your
14:23
website
14:24
um it's beautiful and they would go to
14:28
www.janetdashlin
14:31
and then there are lots of other ways
14:33
that people can get in touch with you so
14:35
i'm going to go ahead and and put
14:37
the social media up on the screen and
14:39
i'm going to put it on so long the
14:40
reason why i'm doing that is that all of
14:42
these links by the way guys who are
14:43
watching right now and even on replay
14:45
those links are going to go
14:46
into the comments and on twitter you can
14:49
follow janet lynn
14:50
at janet underscore lynn 2020
14:54
you can also follow her on facebook at
14:57
janet lynn
14:58
2020 and finally on
15:02
instagram you can follow janet lynn on
15:05
instagram at janet lynn
15:07
morrison so lots of different ways to
15:10
get in touch
15:11
with janelyn as i like to say you're
15:13
everywhere
15:15
and the other thing that i really want
15:16
people to take a look at is that we have
15:18
that link that i put over there for your
15:20
book we put some other things in this
15:22
box
15:23
of cool things like a kindle reader
15:25
because your book is on kindle and
15:26
people can go get the kindle white paper
15:28
and they can read it
15:29
on kindle they can also get the paper
15:31
back because you are on different
15:33
different kinds of ways for people to
15:34
get their their media
15:36
is there anything that you would like to
15:38
share with our
15:40
audience that we have not touched upon
15:42
that you feel is important
15:44
about the book and about you sure um
15:47
first of all i just wanted to say
15:48
quickly that it's going to be available
15:50
on audible
15:51
as well it will be later in february and
15:55
early march
15:56
and you get that to me janet lynn and we
15:58
will put it
15:59
into the all the information so people
16:01
can go listen to an audible that's
16:02
exciting
16:03
yeah and it's my voice and there's a
16:06
part of the book that my daughter
16:08
reads which is really neat and then
16:11
there is a portion of the book at the
16:13
beginning so if you do
16:14
happen to order the book it explains the
16:17
augmented reality experience which is
16:19
quite new
16:20
it's come is the first to have it
16:23
and you can download an app onto your
16:26
phone
16:27
and you'll get an augmented reality
16:29
experience and again it's my
16:31
my voice and my daughter so i think
16:34
that's really exciting
16:35
and i want to share with everyone too is
16:38
a lot of people don't know this about me
16:40
but i'm also a classical pianist and i
16:42
just love
16:43
classical music and i also run
16:46
and running is something that um just to
16:49
give a little bit of background on that
16:52
i'm i'm not a runner i've always done
16:54
sports and fitness and i love that
16:56
and i was that person that used to see
16:58
people driving by
16:59
and um i'd be driving by and i think
17:02
look at that person running like how can
17:04
they do that and
17:06
secretly i really wanted to be like them
17:08
and many times throughout my life i've
17:10
tried
17:11
to go for a little jog here and there
17:12
and i'm more of a sprinter
17:14
and i just thought there's no way so
17:16
something that people don't know about
17:18
me and i wanted to just put it out there
17:19
into the world
17:20
and it's that i want to run in the
17:22
boston marathon
17:24
so i started training yeah last mother's
17:26
day and i've been running
17:28
almost every day since and i'm up to a
17:31
very comfortable
17:32
25 kilometers and i'm getting there
17:35
so i'm very excited about that and i
17:38
think it goes on
17:38
that but that goes in alignment with
17:40
what you were saying about failure
17:42
and that is that you should just do it
17:44
you you shouldn't worry about
17:46
the failure because with the failure
17:48
comes success
17:49
and so even though you had never run
17:51
before or competitive you are doing it
17:54
and whether you whether you come in
17:56
first or last it doesn't matter because
17:58
you have done it and that is such an
18:00
important message
18:02
for me personally um i i live by that
18:05
and thank you for sharing that
18:06
with everyone else um you know we
18:10

18:11
