Let's get clear... REALLY clear! It's time to clear space - in your head, in your heart and in your home. More than ever, aging presents the opportunity to step back and embrace what really matters. What does that mean to you?

hi everybody welcome back to another episode of Uncorked live we are really happy to be here this April
0:18
2023 cleaning everything house Spirit Soul you're thinking about it and we're
0:25
talking about it so stay tuned Uncorked live with Karen Glasser and Mel Greenberg making the most of life's Peak
0:32
stage and sharing it all with [Music]
0:37
you and we're back you know you'd said it was April and I literally I choked I
0:43
don't even know how it became April it feels like it was just New Year's Eve where did it go it wasn't I yes it no it
0:49
wasn't okay you know today we have we have some exciting we have some exciting news and um we have a new partnership
0:57
it's very cool we're on corked so we've kind of moved into that realm a little
1:03
bit with this partnership and we're very excited to to bring it on board um it's a fabulous wine family and I actually am
1:11
going to turn this segment over to Karen because if you don't know she spent a a good amount of years living up in Napa
1:18
um making beautiful friendships and professional relationships while she was there and and she is far better suited
1:24
to discuss this at the level she's going to than I am but I do have a lot of questions I thought you were going to
1:29
call me wio or something so never not publicly so as we mentioned we have a
1:35
new partnership with Hall family wines and anyone that knows anything about Napa knows anything about wines knows
1:42
who Hall family wines are and it's not just one Winery they have three they
1:48
have three wineries today we're going to be talking about the Baka Winery but I want to talk to you just a little bit
1:54
about Katherine Hall she is the wife and the owner of the hall family wines and
2:01
she's got an amazing um story she started working with her family in mesino at their Vineyards and she
2:08
dreamed about having a place to Showcase her Fine Wines and so fast forward she
2:15
and her husband Craig created this unrival destination in Napa Valley if you drive down 29 Mel you're going to
2:22
see this humongous metal bunny on the road I so I've actually
2:29
been to the the metal Bunny and when we this all came to fruition I remember I
2:35
was talking to you about it and I had a picture came to my mind my 50th birthday
2:40
um a bunch of us converged up there for a week and we have a great group shot in
2:45
front of the bunny and it was meant to be it was meant to be I mean and it is it's this humongous it's so large you
2:52
can't you can't miss it on the road on on the road to Napa um it's really cool
2:57
and I love their tagline no no excuses no shortcuts they right can I just tell
3:04
you that sticks with me on every level it applies to everything in our lives I love it and it is how they do their
3:12
business AB they do absolutely so we're going to be talking about um a wine from
3:18
VCA and I'm GNA hold it up right now it's a beautiful label it's it's beautiful and everything they do by the
3:25
way Mel on all of their wineries uh has different artwork and different designs
3:30
and different brands they they do such a great job can I just tell you I sometimes well I just buy the wines
3:38
because I like the labels like the picture and I'll get the you know people oh this is beautiful wine it's great why you know do you enjoy it have you liked
3:44
it I'm like yeah I have a good I don't know but it looks nice it looks nice but I want you to take a look at this little
3:51
contraption that I have at the top of the bottle that to help you not spill it right but it actually goes on you put it
3:58
in the top of of the bottle okay and it's called an airator okay and what exactly is that
4:05
going to do for us well when you drink red wine you want to make sure that it breathes I'm sure we've a lot of us have
4:11
heard that word let the wine breathe right so I use a decanter youed to let
4:16
it breathe exactly for same purpose same purpose because you that you it makes it
4:23
um literally unwraps the taste it just becomes Fuller and it you can taste it a
4:30
lot of people will take a take a sip of their wine and they'll go H it needs to breathe and then they'll let it sit
4:35
there for a while and they'll take another drink and they go oh it's perfect now what you just said was so
4:41
beautiful though I felt the wine when you said it blooms yeah like it's just because it is a beautiful experience to
4:49
I kind I mean and I feel that with coffee it's the Aromas and it's actually the experience of feeling it all yeah
4:56
absolutely so I'm going to wrap and you might have seen this this in restaurants where the suer comes to the table and
5:03
puts a napkin around or a cloth around it you know why they do that Mel to well
5:10
I know why I would do it so I don't spill it and that you know what that's exactly why they do it it stops the
5:16
drips because there's nothing worse than especially when you're drinking red wine to have drips and I'm trying to put this
5:22
right in the center here so I'm going to go ahead and pour and you're going to notice how slow it comes out
5:34
wow and the reason why it's coming out slow Mill is that it literally is going through see it's dripping it's literally
5:40
going through these little holes that are in here I think you can probably see the holes yes got it so that's that's
5:48
what happens so it actually kind of speeds up the process perhaps yes it absolutely does so that's the benefit of
5:53
the aater right um so let's talk a little bit about the vineyard where
5:59
these grapes are actually grown even though this is a Bak of wine they literally have their grapes growing in
6:06
posa robis and you and I when we take our trip up to Napa we're gonna actually be driving through Pasar rois we are um
6:15
and this is called the doozy Vineyard doozy Vineyard okay um so their families
6:21
have been planting since 1945 think about that for a second how long they've been doing this for 1945
6:27
two generations of the dooy f family and they continue to grow and one of the interesting things
6:35
about uh the wine that's grown here at the doozy Vineyard is that it is and I'm going to say this because well I had to
6:41
look this up dry farmed and head trained Vines what the
6:47
heck does that mean well I did look it up so dry farming is simply means that they're growing The Grapes without
6:53
having to put extra water in so they don't have to add water whatever you know fabulous for the environment
7:00
totally for the and and thinking what's going on here especially in California with the droughts and and all of that
7:06
that's so that's one good thing they're very conscientious and thoughtful about
7:11
how they are doing there yes and and then head trained which is such an
7:16
interesting word it literally wraps the uh at the head of the trunk that's
7:21
that's where it comes from the Spurs and all of those Tweety things that go
7:27
around I don't think that's the technical term Tweety things but all the vines that go around and it only is
7:32
about a foot off the ground really yeah so do you know the benefit of having that so low to the I
7:39
do not actually I do not know the benefit of that um anyone out there does let us know not I would like let us know
7:47
um in 2021 and that is actually the Vintage of this wine that we are drinking right now which we has it
7:55
breathed long enough it it has it should we wait before yeah we're going to wait for one more minute because I want to
8:01
actually talk about um the the notes of this and what that means is is that in
8:07
2021 there was a very low yield of grapes and what does that what is a yield explain that meaning how many
8:14
grapes actually grew and they were able to use to create the wine so they may
8:19
have a full Vineyard but not be able to use them all yes that would and because less it was much more
8:28
concentrated and so you get an even more Fuller taste for me is really great
8:33
because you know you and I have talked this is a zendel which I love you love and me you know have never not so much
8:41
however I have had the opportunity of tasting this before and I can't wait to taste it again this is a really good I'm
8:48
excited so let me know when I can because I've got this glass and it's killing me almost almost okay so um
8:55
we've got first of all let's you want to hold your glass up as well there the FL flavors in here are going to be black
9:00
cherry and black currant preserve so I want us to think about that as we go to
9:06
taste and see if are we actually tasting that okay um and it's balanced with the right amount of acidity with that wave
9:13
of fresh freshness and you're going to notice when you go to taste this it's almost going to be like a burst of
9:18
flavor in your mouth at the end so we're gonna actually we're not so we're
9:24
already trying we're doing things you know that there's actually a right way to taste your wine we we call them the
9:31
five it's not just downan but it's called the five s's so
9:36
are you ready for the five s's I am what's the first one so s number one is
9:41
to look at it so as we look at the glass you you might notice that there are what look almost like little legs little
9:48
droplets that are coming down the sides of the glass okay and and what color
9:55
would you say this is this is like a burgundy I may maybe more of more a
10:00
garnet not quite as deep as a burgundy but yeah and I think that goes to being a Zinfandel rather than a Cabernet which
10:07
is obviously my favorite um and number two and we already started to do this we
10:12
swirl and I'm G put all of these things up on the screen so the first thing that we did is we looked at it and kind of
10:20
said well what does this look like and there's little legs and the colors the second thing that we did is we swirled it and the reason why swirl swirl it and
10:28
why are we swirling it well you you want to let me put the number two up you want to see the legs is that what you're
10:34
looking for no you swirl it because you want to let the notes the aromatic notes
10:39
come out so when you swirl it it's an additional way of actually a rating this uhuh to prepare for number three
10:47
correct to prepare prepare for number three now that's sniffing it and that
10:52
means to smell it you literally put your nose right into it okay I have to tell you everyone I
10:59
can't do this with a straight face because I picture Robin Williams he did an amazing bit mocking wine tasting and
11:08
and you know there's an air of pretense or there can be yes with the industry and all of it and and he's it's fabulous
11:16
I'm not gonna even try and remember it but look it up because this is what's going through yeah it is very funny
11:22
because he uses all these words that really don't go with wine flatulent flatulent and it's flaccid and things
11:28
like but you want to smell it you put your nose in there and you can what are you smelling when what what are the scents
11:34
that you're actually smelling well it's a it's fruity but not it's like a smoky
11:40
fruit so maybe like a black I think that current that's like that black curent almost like a
11:46
preserves it's it's it's not it's a little heavier I love it please please
11:51
let me no don't taste yet we're getting to tasting that's number so that's step number four so now we're going to sip it
11:58
so we had see swirl Sniff and Sip and
12:03
when you sip it go ahead let's take a little taste well and we're g cheers oh we have to Cheers sorry
12:13
cheers oh wow oh Karen you can you can there's a little
12:20
bit of a bite but not much there's and then it just settles well you knew what was coming I didn't yeah I knew it was
12:27
coming and you know much I love Zen do you feel that burst in your mouth I do
12:33
it fills every corner it's really yummy I have to drink a little bit
12:40
more so good what I like it doesn't hit you head on either it is there's a
12:47
sharpness to it but but it's a subtle sharpness yeah and then it just expands
12:52
and softens it's good it is really good I can finish the showell what I really
12:59
like about number five is we're going to savor it and we're going to sit back and we're going to reflect on what we just tasted which is what we actually just
13:06
did and you can't help yourself right because it's so it is so good and I what
13:12
I really like is that this Vineyard this company has made
13:19
they have all different price points right and I love that and I as I earlier said you know there there can be um an
13:25
air to to wine and you this is accessible every price
13:33
point is available yeah and and that's wonderful and it's all delicious so Mel
13:40
we got to let people know how they can get this right I mean because we're sitting here and and I'm they're probably saying okay this is so unfair
13:46
you guys they drinking we're having so much fun and the really cool thing is that they have given us this incredible
13:54
promo for y'all and on the website you'll see lots of deals and specials
13:59
and one is that if you're a new customer our uncored promo code which you have to
14:05
use at checkout entitles you to the 10% off regardless regardless you may
14:10
already be familiar with these and I I rather suspect many of you are um you will get you will still get the 10% off
14:17
so be sure to use that Uncorked promo code in the checkout and any of their
14:23
Vineyards so at Walt at Hall winery and as well as um baka so you can go to
14:29
either or or all three if you want and they have a couple other things that they're running right now if you buy six
14:35
bottles you're going to get $1 shipping so that's really great because normally and I just got a shipment we were
14:40
laughing I just got two shipments of wine and the cost to ship it is not cheap so $1 deal it's heavy it's it yeah
14:47
and they pack it so beautifully oh yeah it's great um and then if you if you are
14:53
a big as as Mel said didn't call me a wio but if you are a Wine Drinker and you like it if you spend uh $500 they
15:00
will give you 5% off of that as well yeah so as I
15:05
said when we started this they they are new partners and that's one thing that's
15:11
coming up in season 3 next year we are coming back and some fabulous things on
15:18
Deck um but I have to just say the $500 I need so this episode is about
15:23
clearing space spring is about you know spring cleaning getting getting getting yourself clear yeah and I'm going to
15:30
have to go home and clear a lot of space the line I'm gonna buy that's hysterical
15:36
right that's hysterical I know but that's not the only what reason you're gonna be clearing space you're gonna be
15:42
an empty nester again okay really you're gonna go there go there I am so my youngest son
15:50
did move into his house last month and it's a very exciting time for him but I
15:56
have to tell you it's I took him um to HomeGoods and I'm just going to say this he's
16:01
colorblind so I've always had to help him with certain things and we had so much fun you know start buying and
16:08
decorating and I when we went in I said this is going to be your new favorite store he just had a ball and as a mom I
16:14
mean to to be able to do this at this time in his life is so much fun and it's
16:19
given me the chance to go home now and clear and truly that is I love it I mean
16:25
it's a little bit of a drug to me cleaning out cupboards and closets and getting rid of things I it feels so good
16:31
I'm not a packrat and I have to to do things like this when my husband is not around because he is and I will get rid
16:38
of things and he'll never know but if I said I'm gonna get rid of it he will claw
16:43
and no no yeah me too in fact the running joke here is I clean up and I'll
16:50
if I make the mistake of saying do you want this say yes and it's a mistake so
16:56
I don't ask anymore I just get rid of all the stuff and yeah he doesn't know
17:02
because it's been sitting there for years so I'm all with you in that so I have to say this cleaning dust because I
17:08
keep it okay I have the worst allergies and I don't know if y'all are feeling this out there and I feel like some they
17:14
they're getting worse as I'm getting older I feel like they I should be settling in but this season has been so
17:19
awful and my nose will just not stop itching it's crazy they say that when your nose
17:26
itches somebody's talking about you yeah I know probably me I'm talking about you
17:33
well thank you I'm talking so we we just talked about clearing space in our home
17:39
right and I'm a minimalist as well so I I less is more for me totally less is
17:45
and I the two of you do you find that you collect things or I don't my husband
17:51
does your husband does my husband does penguins penguins penguins everywhere um I don't collect I collect wine does that
17:58
count I collect things but I I don't like I just don't like all around
18:04
yeah and I find that I work better I I'm more productive and and those channels
18:10
are clear when when there's not when things clutter up it it I feel it clutter up inside me too yeah and I I
18:18
have I have attention deficit disorders so add so that if when things are not
18:23
where they're supposed to be and I get distracted and that becomes an issue so I think by necessity
18:28
I keep things really really clean and clear do you think I truly have felt
18:34
this and and it is I I think it's our age I don't want a lot of stuff around
18:40
me I don't need a lot of things I want to clear out and simplify and and going
18:47
through this process one or two or three times a year is really beneficial and I find that it means more to me now than
18:53
it used to in a different way I I think it is an age thing I think we get to a certain point that we we don't need all
19:00
that stuff we know what we need we get very clear as to what we need and it's not stuff it's people it's relationships
19:07
right I am really sentimental though and I have things there are things that mean
19:13
so much to me that I will never part with and you know it just that that is
19:18
what it is but those things add up too and you kind of you find a way to to make them fit into your life um but I I
19:27
want to talk about what that heart because that leads us leads us to heart
19:32
and clearing within our heart and and Karen we have talked about this and you've been so open and vulnerable with
19:39
your journey and Michael's health and that has had to impact you and how you
19:47
know what you've gone through and that was actually a question that we got from our community and and again please keep
19:54
sending them in we appreciate it so much and it's fun to kind kind of get to know y'all and and you your questions and and
20:01
one of the this question was how do you take care of everyone else in your life
20:07
and in your circle without losing yourself when you figure it out let me know I'm kidding okay it's a million
20:14
dollar question it is it's a million-dollar question and it's not easy it's not easy because when it's a
20:19
loved one that um you're taking care of not just um a random person but it's
20:26
really a loved one like this was my my husband he um and thank God just by the way he's
20:32
in remission we are celebrating he is he's he's getting healthier by the day
20:37
but to answer the question you know it's um it weighs heavy on your heart when
20:43
somebody is so ill and you you have all those Whata ifs that are going on and and all all of those things and now that
20:50
he's well it's like it's lifted I I'm so
20:55
happy I am so so happy now now and I feel like I have cleared all that stuff
21:01
that was just heavy heavy heavy on my you can breathe again and and are you
21:07
you're starting to go out again and you're doing it now maybe without such trepidation you are you letting yourself
21:13
enjoy yes you don't have to worry about his immunity I don't have to worry about it anymore I mean well you know I
21:19
control I'm gonna always worry about it of course you are but not not not like it was we are going out now together
21:26
every day we go out some to get out and start enjoying life again um you know
21:33
when we moved here it the pandemic hit so we literally been housebound for three years and then he and then he got
21:39
sick and and you know during that time he got sick so now we're out there and so my heart is not heavy anymore it is
21:45
completely clear it is awesome it's an awesome awesome feeling I'm so glad that leads to our
21:52
head oh Jesus I call it I call it the itty bitty shitty committee up there
21:58
that talks and talks and talks and talks and I cannot shut it up how about you I
22:03
I I do shut it up it it she doesn't listen she's got a mind of her own but I try but I I um I know I've shared this I
22:11
had a therapist once um who said just use put your hand up and and and literally like a stop sign and you when
22:17
that voice is just add nauseum just say stop enough and and that still works for
22:23
me but I find now the easiest way for me to shut that voice is to f focus on
22:28
something that truly makes me happy whether it's my dogs my family my garden
22:34
something you know I walk um and that helps so it's not always easy to shut
22:40
that little up it isn't especially in the middle of the night and and I you know I get up I'm I'm a very early
22:47
riser like a very early riser four o'clock is my late time sometimes it's earlier than that and and that is
22:54
because of the the talking in the head and the only thing that stops IT to be honest is that I get get up and I walk
22:59
out of the bed and it stops do you find like cuz I know like I'll wake up in the middle of the night and you're in a dead
23:06
sleep and you wake up and you stare at it's like it's almost as if a light has gone on even though it hasn't and you're
23:12
like oh and everything starts filtering in and not even filtering just
23:17
bombarding you and you can't go to sleep I will often flip over and I know you're
23:22
not supposed to keep your phone by your bed but I do and I'll put on insight timer a meditation
23:28
yeah and that will help me because I can't if you can Reign or refocus that
23:35
voice right and and shift its direction it's very helpful right I mean because
23:41
we are the worst critics of ourselves I mean we are so hard on ourselves and
23:47
it's all about the mindset so I know and I practice this even though I can be honest and say it still happens but I do
23:54
practice it is getting out of my own head and what you put out there is
23:59
what's going to come back so if I can reframe that crazy that's going on to something that's really positive in fact
24:06
I will get that back well I find too that I and because from one perspective
24:11
I definitely am better at that and that has come with aging I just relax I don't care about a lot that used to I used to
24:19
obsess about in younger years but the other side of that coin is that because I'm older I think I can't do that I mean
24:26
my God I'm 63 so when that voice starts then I get I get pretty nasty with her
24:31
and and does she have a name you keep saying her what's her name um you know what she doesn't have a
24:38
name little is little shut the she must know the itty bitty shitty
24:43
they're friends they're friends oh we connected we are so align they're totally they are totally totally friends
24:50
oh my God so to that end you know it's taking care of
24:56
yourself mentally how about your body physically yep are you seeing
25:01
differences in how you clear that or yeah I mean I walk a lot now um now that I'm not afraid to go outside and and do
25:07
it I I walk and that always clears my my mind and exercise and we have an amazing sponsor oh and you know that's so even
25:16
when I don't want to do it that's why I love Elaine so much because there's nothing you can't you can't make excuses
25:22
no excuses or shortcuts for her 20 minute workouts and are so fulfilling
25:28
and and beneficial yeah I love it take a look now she's got a great new offer
25:34

25:45

25:51
body holistic approach will give you success I'm a 57-year-old master
25:57
personal trainer and I designed these programs for women like us I love Elaine
26:04
I love the program and she's got a really cool freebie it's a 20 minute Power Yoga with light dumbbells so go
26:12
ahead and uh check out the link that we put into the show copy and go get your
26:17
free freebie yeah everybody likes Something Free come
26:23
on oh my goodness well I'm getting in shape for my summer child so Mel um you know we we've been really
26:31
fortunate we have people that send us in these questions and we try to answer them you know on the shows but this one
26:37
in particular is is to you so here it is I'm planning a summer trip and I always
26:42
take too much who relates oh my good lord well and she wants to know you
26:48
travel so much and you just mentioned it um can you share some of your secrets oh
26:53
my gosh yes I would love to and it um it it's funny because I just I'm getting
26:59
ready to go on another trip and my husband and I were talking on the phone this morning and I uh he's traveling and
27:05
I said you know I had packed and he just like go por off I'm not leaving for a bit but but that's so one thing I do and
27:13
everything I do for me is to make my life and my mind and head better and
27:20
easy and so I would first of all encourage you to you know honor who you are and do what makes you happy he packs
27:28
3:00 the day before we leave or 3 o' in the morning the day we're leaving which would it does give me anxiety that would
27:35
give me that's not good for me yeah right but if it might be then that's what you should do I pull my clothes I
27:42
start maybe two weeks before you know Gathering and putting together outfits and then I just let them hang and I kind
27:48
of live with them and in my closet and then I do it again and then the day I'm
27:54
packing uh which is not the day I'm leaving by the way I I do it again so by
28:00
the time I've done I've probably gotten rid of another third of what I started with and I really feel that I I have
28:05
done well and my greatest joy in that aspect is that when I come home I I
28:10
everything I packed I wore that just makes nothing went I love that nothing everything got attention it makes me so
28:17
happy so I that's one um another thing that I do that I love is to keep a
28:22
toiletry bag fully packed and I love this tip yeah this is great yeah and
28:27
I've done that for years and it's just it's just easy you don't have to worry about it you can keep it pop it in any
28:33
suitcase you're taking add to it as you need depending on how long you're going to be gone when I come home from a trip
28:39
I immediately refill everything and then just put it away don't even think about it so the less I have you talked about
28:45
being add I am a bit I think to some extent everyone is but I don't have to
28:50
think about it I you know it's already oh that's done I can just grab and and go and to make make things easier when
28:58
I'm traveling anything that I can multi-purpose I love yeah and you know
29:04
my favorite one Tommy Bahama bathing suits they're reversible they have so many styles they're beautifully
29:10
beautifully made the Fabrics I have some I've had for 20 years yeah they last for I use them so they're getting a lot of
29:15
easy and they're reversible how Co is that so easy and they're great price
29:20
point they're it's just a it's something to look into for sure especially with Summer travel absolutely want more than
29:26
one or two or three bathing suits and you get you can have four taking two right absolutely so easy another thing
29:32
that I do is take a clutch and a dressy nice leather clutch and I fill all my
29:38
electronics in that ah so then it has served as a carrying case into in my
29:43
checked baggage but then also when I get where I'm going dump everything out and I've got a nice little clutch to take around I tend to do the same thing I I
29:50
have um this really beautiful leather um tote and it's open on the front and it
29:56
has this little uh magnet thing that goes to keep it shut and I use it as a carry-on actually but if I'm going
30:03
somewhere that in even though it's leather but even though I I still use it
30:08
in the sun and in near the water I will take it with me to the pool that's wonderful TOs and my all that stuff in
30:15
there so I multi-purpose that as well well my one Indulgence in that in that regard is I have a giant long sh folding
30:24
you know can or not canvas you know what their material is I always pack that because when I travel for things that I
30:31
gather along the way I can either use it as the carry-on or it ships very easily
30:36
it checks very easily rather so and then you know the last thing I think is is the clothing the wardrobe choices
30:43
themselves and that's to keep it as simple as possible I use one Foundation color typically black or a version
30:50
thereof depending on season and then I'll add a pop of color just that I can
30:56
throw into whether it's a scarf or um you know something I I in um I like the
31:03
Veronica bear Blazers the dicky Blazers right and so I use the different color Dickies and that's a way to to spruce up
31:09
an outfit really changes the look right exactly totally different look yeah so I just you know I would urge you just to
31:15
do everything you can to simplify and scale back and that kind of goes back to
31:21
it just making your life as easy as possible you don't want to spend your entire vacation you know trying to
31:26
figure this all out and what should I wear and there's so many clothes it's I I agree with you 100% it's so much
31:34
easier to to be small rather than large and have everything go together so that
31:40
no matter what you pull it's going to go with yeah and it is the one area that
31:45
I'm more organized in than other areas of my life and I'm a little anal about it but it makes me really happy and then
31:51
I go on my trip and I let everything go and it's easy so yeah I hope I answered your question and you can reach out to
31:59
me yeah and guys um we're going to put a link in the show notes Mel put together
32:04
this um short little ebook that has all of these tips so click the link and that
32:10
way you don't even have to remember it'll be all written down go take a look so I just want to throw in a little bit
32:17
off this wine you know we're well into this show now and it is just it is a
32:23
beautiful flower it just keeps blooming yeah it's just gorgeous love it
32:31
cheers I I think to sit back and enjoy this is a
32:37
beautiful thing that we have this opportunity and Karen there's so many different opportunities that you get in
32:44
your life and your line of work and one you just interviewed an amazing young
32:49
man and you're going to share that with us he is he his name is Hal Elrod and um
32:56
we we've talked about this book before it's called The Miracle morning the six habits that will transform your life
33:02
before 8:00 a.m. and what makes me laugh about this is he does this whole thing you really need to get up by five and
33:07
I'm like oh do I get to sleep till five then I I am I have been doing this for
33:15
years and years and years because it's simple there are six steps and I love it
33:20
and so I had the opportunity I was so fortunate to interview him on one of my shows and he is delightful this guy is
33:27
so so funny we laugh through almost the entire interview but his story is
33:32
fascinating so take a listen I'm wholesome the public my my my readers my
33:38
fans everyone thinks that I'm wholesome when I'm interviewed they would always say h you would probably never do this
33:44
but let me just ask you or this or that and I think what it is is they confuse being polite with being wholesome what I
33:51
mean is behind closed doors I love to use the FW I love to use the FW I use it all the time right um but in public I'm
33:57
just polite I don't talk to my grandma that way and I have a lot of grandmas in my audience so I'm very polite with them
34:03
the question today is can you change the direction of your life so first let's
34:08
just kick this off by by asking you Hal I mean you've got a you've got an amazing story that actually uh comes
34:15
before the book you know the miracle morning how it all happened so briefly let's just talk a little bit about your
34:20
story how did this come about yeah I always say it's a result of of three Rock bottoms and if to Define what a
34:28
rock bottom is so everybody can relate we've all had them in fact we've had many of them and more of them are on the
34:33
way not to depress anybody but a rock bottom is simply a moment in your life
34:38
where you experience adversity at a level you've never experienced before so when you're a kid your rock bottoms are
34:44
very different than when you're a teen and then when you're in your 20s and 30s we go through financial Rock bottoms
34:49
relational Rock bottoms you name it and my first big big big rock bottom came when I was 19 years old I was driving
34:55
home from a Sal meeting at I had given a speech at and I was driving a white Ford Mustang and I was hit head on by a drunk
35:03
driver at 70 miles per hour I spun off the drunk driver in the car behind me crashed into my driver's side door at 70
35:09
miles per hour and instantaneously the left side of my body was crushed inside the car I broke 11 bones um I my my
35:17
femur broke in half I broke my pelvis and I was found dead at the scene I died for six minutes in a coma for six days
35:24
and was told I would never walk again and that set me on a path to go maybe I meant to do more than just sell products
35:31
maybe I'm meant to actually help people by overcoming my challenges and sharing with them how to overcome theirs and
35:37
then when the US economy crashed in 2008 my second Big Rock Bottom happened and that's where I lost everything I lost my
35:45
house I lost my income I went deep in debt I got depressed my my body fat tripled and that's what led to me
35:52
discovering the power of morning rituals and I decided I wanted to create the ultimate morning ritual I want to create
35:59
the best of the best so I could change my life fast as fast as possible and I
36:04
created this thing called The Miracle morning not it wasn't a book idea it wasn't a book title and within two
36:09
months I doubled my income I went from being in the worst Shape of My Life physically to running training for a
36:15
52-mile ultramarathon I wasn't a runner but I decided that would help me to to
36:20
get out of my comfort zone and become a better version of myself and you mentioned you know I never thought it
36:26
would be a book but I I decided I had a responsibility to share it with the world and now as you said there's half
36:31
million people do this every day and um it's just it's wild that's that's actually it's wild I'm sure Beyond Your
36:38
Wildest imagination wow I am on it to get this book what an incredible young
36:46
man isn't a story like unbelievable yeah really unbelievable
36:51
and he really is very motivating and if he can do it I can do it kind of thing
36:57
take your phone out scan this you can go pick up a copy let me give you some background on this though this guy is I
37:03
mean really unbelievable he this book was written in 37 languages over 3.5 million copies
37:11
have sold worldwide and it's practiced by want to guess how many
37:18
countries 100 countries wow so I think it's a good
37:24
book a little bit I I just I love his his
37:29
genuine heart he he is who he is he just he's beautiful he really is he really is you
37:37
