hello everyone Karen Glasser here and welcome to Uncorked live we are so
0:07
excited we are talking about life why it happens all with beverages in our hands
0:14
stay tuned Glasser and Mel Greenberg making the
0:21
most of life's Peak stage and sharing it all with you
0:29
thank you and I'm Mel Greenberg and we're back and
0:34
Karen let's do this season two cheers everybody welcome
0:41
I'm drinking farnante Chardonnay and I really did pick this for tonight's
0:47
episode because um Loosely translates to the Sweet Art of
0:54
Doing Nothing and I kind of view this stage of our life as that and it's not about doing nothing sitting on a couch
1:01
being a vegetable it's about embracing [Music] the it the the what comes and really the
1:09
yin and the Yang and maybe sometimes no action is good action and it's okay and just enjoy it absolutely kind of where
1:16
we are I'm drinking a beautiful bottle of wine called round about midnight and it's
1:22
from a it's Napa wine a cliff lady and Cliff lady this guy who who owns the
1:27
winery all of The Vineyards all of the where they plant are all old old rock and roll songs
1:33
and is it a cab what is it a blend it is a Cabernet nice and it is delicious
1:38
delicious yum yum yum all right for two things one welcome everybody and
1:45
you'll notice we're in our separate locations I'm coming to you live from my home in Tucson Arizona
1:51
and Karen is he's from Palm Desert California both hot hot mix up I think
1:57
it's cold by you right now right it's our version of fall and it's awesome we
2:02
we are really thrilled and we're really happy you know it's like you like us you really like us Sally Field turns out you
2:09
did and you had fun last year and we had a great time we loved that we tapped
2:15
into something which is a true authentic conversation about right the it of aging and sometimes it's
2:23
great and sometimes it's not and that's why frankly that is why we are in our locations that is why we didn't launch
2:29
the season in September and we're going to go into that a little bit Karen yeah um I I know that you've said you're
2:36
you're willing to really yeah open the book here and I think that's a really wonderful thing that you're willing to
2:42
to share your vulnerability because it's it's pretty heavy stuff and it's where a lot of us are I'm 62. you are 65 I'm
2:50
going to be 66 next month yeah and you get to this point where it happens
2:55
and it sometimes it just keeps happening exactly exactly so we're kind of
3:02
navigating these changes right that that life is bringing us and you know we talk
3:08
about positive aging rather than um anti-aging or whatever and and let's
3:14
talk a little bit about that I know there's a lot of research behind that whole idea of positivity there is and
3:20
you know we are on the research supports this that and we have some some links that we will share with you if you want
3:25
to do further you know kind of deepen Deep dive into the story and to understand the why we actually are more
3:32
capable as we age to deal with the it that happens and I think my personal
3:37
opinion is that it's because you're more comfortable in your skin we get to a
3:44
point where we've been there done that and maybe I think too for me
3:50
um doing something like I mean I was in my 20s I was in media but I was always behind the camera painfully shy always
3:57
asked to be in front of the camera I would have rather died and I think it's because in your youth
4:03
You're Building you're growing you have rotations and wants and by the time you like when I started doing tours for the
4:09
book The First book I got to the point I didn't care and I was like if I make a mistake it's okay if we make a mistake
4:15
here we're all okay with that and I think that helps in building our
4:21
resilience in in our health and it shows up in our health it shows up in our mental health
4:27
you know a lot about this issue I do I do
4:32
um a lot of challenges um I don't know if we want to jump right into it right now I think we're going to talk about you know how our personal
4:39
Reflections I think Mel do you want me to jump in first about my personal Reflections yeah
4:45
people let's talk about why we're so talk a little bit about why we're doing this um uh about four months ago my husband
4:52
was diagnosed with lymphoma and had returned and um for anyone that has gone through uh a
5:00
loved one having cancer or maybe even yourself having cancer you know how that just flips your entire life upside down
5:08
and um and it did and and because of that everything changed over the summer
5:14
I I know we left our last show I was so excited because I was going to be going
5:19
to British Columbia with my siblings now it's your first time out my first time out since the
5:27
whole crazy and I got my passport and I was ready to go and then it happens and
5:34
we we just pivot right we pivot we do what we have to do but it did change
5:39
everything that we were doing because originally you were going to come into town and we were going to go out and do our thing and record all these shows but
5:46
you know what we're flexible go with the flow which is really the message here we have to go with the flow
5:52
because you just never know what's going to happen next um other than it yeah and
5:58
I think that's what that's what the the research is really bringing forth that
6:03
you learn to go with the flow and the more that you allow yourself you know we all have that internal voice right and
6:09
usually it's the really icky critical one that's that's telling you you've done you know you're failing these you know this one doesn't like you this
6:15
right you can be better but if you really stop and open your heart and listen to that voice in a different you
6:22
know turn the volume down a bit right and create some silence and you know the message is in the space in the silence
6:28
and totally totally we have that capability and I think more so to
6:34
appreciate that as we age and if we do that if we open ourselves to listening
6:39
and just kind of going with what comes
6:48
yeah Joey thanks for tuning in hi um yeah it happens and I like to call it
6:54
the the itty bitty shitty Committee in my head it just talks and talks and talks and talks and what Joey says yeah
6:59
life is all about pivoting and going with what is happening absolutely absolutely and and that is
7:07
what we did we pivoted and so here we sit in opposite um and I'm gonna put Julie up here hi Julie
7:14
hi this is so awesome we love this if you're tuning in tell us you're tuning
7:19
in we'll put you up on the screen we'd love to put you up on the screen so yeah I think it's important
7:25
um and how and so now we're you're going forward and you've got plans and you did work through so much and you you step by
7:32
step you got through the storm and that's you know and I think that's the other thing we've by the time we get to this stage
7:39
we've weathered a few storms and you realize that that it does suck and things do suck and life is not fair but
7:46
you do get through it and and you know people always say that um you know you get to the second half and oh my God you
7:51
know everything falls apart it doesn't it's not the second half is not better than the first but it's not worse either
8:00
it is it's a beautiful beautiful narrative right now and I I don't like
8:06
it I know it's like you know this is the best ever this this part of your life is bad it's you know I I can go through a
8:13
number of the best ever exactly important and we carry them all forward with us and they all actually contribute
8:20
to who we are now I just exactly it's another it's another chapter exactly
8:26
yeah it exactly you know so we're we're going to kind of jump into this whole conversation and
8:33
talk about what's new and what has happened during the summer other than some illness going on and I say some
8:40
illness because I am sure everyone has something going on in their world and it's how we approach it and how we we
8:46
deal with it Mel I am so excited for you you have a new book coming out I do I'm working and I've gone a little
8:53
different route and the trilogy is still still continuing but I'm writing romance now and there's this a canyon that you
9:01
know there's it's it's from the point and the perspective of a woman our age and I learned that through the running
9:09
with our eyes closed Trilogy that that women were really
9:15
um interested and appreciative of a character who was a vital sexual wanting being yes you know just because we're 60
9:21
we're not dead we have wants and desires and needs and not it's it's it's kind of
9:28
a throwback to traditional romance you know and it's very exciting and what's
9:33
really I mean it's been not you're you have a show option on it right it's the that's on the trilogy that's on the
9:38
trilogy but it's um and your sales grew I mean all this wonderful stuff has been
9:44
happening for you which I am thrilled for thrilled for that
9:50
um and your nest screwed too
9:56
yeah I have everything now um and I know it's temporary and I and I'm gonna probably go through a major
10:04
sadness again when everybody leaves my youngest son moved home he's building a house and it won't be ready until next
10:10
spring and a series of events occurred and he just it was I take your old room you come on
10:17
back it's one more person my my son my oldest son and his wife and my first grandchild are living with us again the
10:25
mark you know everyone knows the house have been insane and they came during covet and never left and I'm grateful
10:32
and he is blessed to be able to be a part of the Hollywood industry that affords him to to work remotely so he
10:40
gets to stay in Tucson and I get to be close to my grandchild and my family so I have everyone in the toe and I joke
10:46
with them that they just are killing my brand but it's all good but I love it and I'm actually a little jealous I live
10:53
vicariously through you with your beautiful granddaughter Isla I mean she's just adorable I can't I want to
11:00
just pinch those cheeks now I don't have an empty nest my kids were gone gone gone however my son and his wife did
11:07
move to the desert which is way cool I mean they're they're the brown corner just around the corner but even more
11:14
cool is that my son and I launched a new show called minding your mental health this
11:21
is Rob and he's a mental health Advocate and how cool is this that I'm able to
11:27
get on a live with my son and we go live every single week talking about those
11:32
important topics about health and mental health in particular so I'm so proud of
11:38
him guys if you haven't had a chance to catch an episode do do so because
11:43
it's beautiful to see mother and son together but it's it's actually from Rob's perspective and he is an
11:49
incredible advocate in the mental health field and and life and I learned so much and it's a
11:56
beautiful interaction and yes to get to work with your children what a gift I you know what that never would have
12:01
happened and and that's the thing I look at the blessings I look at how grateful
12:06
I really am and I I could have buried my head I could have gone under the covers
12:12
and said I can't do this and in fact I almost did that but then I realized you know life goes on and um and it
12:19
continues to go on and my husband's gonna be fine and I really do believe that but look at this opportunity that I
12:25
had to to start this show with my son so I am very very proud of him I'm loving
12:30
the show we're getting lots and lots of views we're getting a lot of hits on it so I'm a proud moment and I'm so proud
12:37
of you and I'm so happy for both of you and and really for the community because you are getting yesterday was World
12:43
mental health day and it's a after covet especially we're feeling the effects of
12:49
the mental oh my goodness so it's profound what what you're bringing
12:54
and I'm having a blast even more importantly I'm having a blast I look forward to it and in fact he's grabbing
13:00
me to drop on most of his shows he just loves doing videos with me so I'm having I'm having a lot of fun
13:07
um and I think this goes to the point of that you know our dope children relationships they change as as they get
13:14
older as we get older I look at my son now like he's an adult I mean even
13:19
though he he's always been an adult at this age but I no longer look at him as like this kid he is an adult and our
13:26
relationship has changed how about you well that's been the the remarkable Revelation while my sons have been home
13:33
that because we've always been close but now and they're living at home again but
13:40
in such a different capacity and and and to be adult with them and and you know I
13:47
there's Parts you know it comes out and and you know you go back to Dynam family Dynamics interactions like no way you're
13:53
not 10 stop and it's um I learned so much and I'm open to
13:59
learning from them and I'm I'm very blessed I love my son's wife and it's
14:04
great I'm not gonna lie it's great to have female energy in my house because the only other female energy that you've
14:09
ever had are my dogs so I'm gonna sit at the table and have tea and talk online
14:14
and and talk and that just that kind of interaction did not happen in that way
14:20
so I'm really really deeply appreciative of that and I I get that I think that
14:26
um again it's just being open to the new season and not better but not better
14:32
beautifully different to enjoy it yeah thank you for tuning in
14:37
right now and you're jumping in and we're talking about relationships we're talking about empty nests we're talking about how things change if you have a
14:44
situation in your life why don't you put it in the comments let us know what's going on in your life do you have an empty nest situation have the kids come
14:51
back to roost what's going on in your world let us know we'd love to hear about it you know we talked about my
14:57
disappointment about not being able to go on a trip and I have to be totally honest I'm just gonna I'm just gonna kind of just be totally put it out there
15:04
yeah um I really didn't want to go
15:09
why um because I was afraid still isn't it I was afraid not and I
15:15
was afraid you know and part of me thought I kind of like manifested this
15:20
whole thing like to go but I'm really disappointed as I
15:26
look back it's like uh I missed an amazing amazing
15:31
trip with my brothers and sisters and their significant others and I I hope we
15:36
get a chance to do it again but I know how my mind works and you know how my mind works we talked about this a lot
15:43
when you know should I go or should I stay right you were going I was like no I'm staying I'm I'm gonna stay stop it
15:50
you know what I think and I mean obviously some people are predisposed more than others and and I am too but
15:55
and I that's a good example I was not looking we went my husband and I went part of our summer travel we we spent a
16:02
week in Manhattan I was not looking forward to it I was really nervous and I told him that I'm like I think I'd
16:07
rather be going and I love the city I'm rather because I've heard so much I read so much I saw some I didn't I was scared
16:15
I went and we had a very long extended a lot of different you know different places we were on a cruise in Florida it
16:22
was my favorite part of the trip so I think you'd build up this narrative in our head and those little voices that
16:28
sometimes I do I picture a hand and I just say stop and I did that this past week with something and it was
16:34
just I I love that I love that and we create these scenarios that become
16:39
bigger than life right unnecessarily and I think you would you did that it was I
16:45
did that I totally I couldn't though but had you been able to you would have I would have had a blast and because of
16:52
that I mean we have some exciting news that we're going to kind of tease later on about travel but we'll talk about
16:57
that later I want to say hello to Alicia thanks for joining us she finally made it here I'm excited that you're here as
17:03
well to hear the convo thank you so much for joining us well
17:09
well no we're talking about what we're doing and and I just spent a beautiful five days at Canyon Ranch and and it was
17:16
serendipitous and those of you who follow me on Instagram and uh Facebook know that this past week has been really
17:23
emotional right and I found out Monday that my best friend of 43 years had passed and I was supposed to be flying
17:29
tomorrow to DC to be with her so I as I said we're gonna have a lot of wine at
17:34
another when we meet again and discuss this but and I wasn't really I was a little you know like oh I'm going to
17:40
Canyon Ranch but I got there and it ended up being the most beautiful
17:48
experience for healing and I I approach I've been to Canyon Ranch many times and I'm blessed it's literally two miles
17:54
from my house right and I love it but I went to I experienced a different side
18:00
of Canyon Ranch and that was incredible and one thing that was really cool is I
18:06
learned a lot more about Mel Zuckerman the founder and he founded it at 50. so
18:11
there you go big stage like you know you're not if you have a passion follow it it doesn't matter how old you are and
18:18
you can change the world at 50 years old and he's 94 now I mean he just completely changed wow I helped our
18:25
physical being and yeah we we did a lot my girlfriend and I made fire from
18:31
rubbing wood together I'm gonna put this picture back up how cool is that I don't know and then
18:38
there was I was bent over like laughing because it's like I did it it was unbelievable just again it gives they
18:46
have so many new classes and so many new opportunities I really didn't do when I've gone there in the past I
18:53
always did all the workout classes right of course we did I will just disclose this now the whole world will know including my husband
18:59
we became we decided we became body treatment aficionados and Divas and it
19:06
was kind of bugs like like multiple times a day it was just ridiculous but their their service
19:13
providers and their services are off the charts just heads up for Canyon Ranch
19:18
but I would like to actually see that so if you have been share with me because I would you know
19:24
either here or privately send me a message because I would love to know your experience but the reason I didn't
19:30
do a lot of the workouts is because I have found an amazing way to work out
19:36
and it literally takes me 20 minutes a session two reps of 10 and I can do them
19:41
anywhere and I hurt my shoulder about a not quite a month ago in yoga doing a
19:47
down dog because that can be pretty yeah it does yep and what is fabulous about the workouts I do is I can adjust so I
19:54
never have to give up something and I take it anywhere and you can do it without a gym anything and I'm really
20:01
proud to announce that this is our season two sponsor which is core strength I'm so excited and I would like
20:08
to introduce you to Elaine here we go
20:13
if you're over 50 and you've hit a brick wall with your training or you're just plain bored with your workouts I get it
20:20
I've been there too but don't give up or give in put yourself first I've designed
20:26
20-minute holistic workout programs for us and it's doable in 20 with
20:32
consistency core strength50plus.com you can change your body at any age
20:40
I love that I love that Aloha Diana from Maine aloha so I'm gonna Elaine is based
20:49
in Bali and I I actually uh wrote the first drop to my manuscript in Bali and it's a country that's dear to my heart
20:56
but she records those videos on her farm and there are many times you hear the
21:01
chickens oh I love it in the background and I I've told her this because I've done virtual workouts before and they're
21:08
all wonderful and there's so many talented providers I would urge you just to find one that you connect with right
21:14
but with Elaine I literally I tell I feel like she's there because at the any moment her videos she'll she'll tweak
21:22
what you're doing and it's like oh did you see that I was slacking like where are you like how do you see through the
21:27
video it's crazy and and she's a spot on and and her terminology because she's
21:33
from New Zealand is is a bit different like you know she says you know sit back like you're sitting on the loo you know
21:39
for for squats um but it's I've always known as a competitive athlete as a kid I've always known you don't need to be
21:46
in a gym for an hour or two out you can if you do it right and I actually did learn that again it was reinforced
21:51
during my time at Canyon Ranch over and over it's like it's what you do and how
21:56
the the intent and the focus that you put into it what you get out of it and
22:02
so I encourage you all to go she's on Instagram core strength 50 check it out put the website up there right now from
22:09
beauty buster works
22:14
I'm going to do it and again it happens I have I had all best inclusions and
22:20
I've got everything ready to go and I'm I'm totally gonna do it oh we have I'm gonna put some other I hope so
22:29
we've got some big stuff coming up um we do we do and one thing I do want to say
22:34
before we we share what what's coming is that part of all of this and what we're talking about and how we're kind of
22:40
easing into this stage of Our Lives is ease of routine right right I find I
22:46
love I've always loved you know style and makeup and everything and you buy every color that comes out and I've
22:52
really parred down and I don't you kind of settle in and you find that you know what works you know really what looks
22:58
good and I can pack in a little bag and do that it's so easy I where what's safe
23:05
for me and comfortable I have come across the most incredible sun protection line it's UPF 50 and the
23:11
company's called coolibar they make swimwear Sporting wear my kit my sons wear golf
23:17
in fact what's my my son that's that's how my youngest son um played football at Kentucky and he wears
23:24
the shirts to to weddings and and they have his size he's a he's a double X now he was a bigger lineman when he was
23:30
playing but all the big guys want the shirt because he's not sweating so they'll be out they'll be out on the
23:36
town and they're dripping and he is is just and during the day he can wear and they wear it on the golf course it's
23:43
beautiful and for the baby my sweet little and it's important because cancer is prevalent and be able to protect
23:49
ourselves it's everywhere because especially for us in the desert you know I don't intentionally sit in the sun
23:55
like this is me and that hat I will just tell you packs up and goes everywhere with me I don't leave the house without
24:01
it and look at how cute these are oh my gosh look at my little oh my goodness oh
24:07
my goodness I told you I want to pinch those little cheeks they're they're just principal yeah she's adorable you also
24:14
talk about though protecting our lips right and that so I actually just went through I've had two treatments they
24:20
both freezing I had like pre-cancerous so we finally got it where we want it so I started that that being said I started
24:27
using this coola it's it's you know sunscreen lipstick so protect but it's easy it's colored look
24:34
at this it's so cool they have different colors this is the one I like it's called raspberry
24:40
and then I top it with this little gloss okay so I live in that I can be going out to a formal ball or to the pool this
24:47
is what I take right and it's great great product keep things simple because there's other things that matter more at
24:53
this you know and I don't need to completely reinvent myself with every style that comes out you know it looks good on me I know what I'm comfortable
24:59
in don't you don't you and I agree I think that that's what comes with age is that we just don't care
25:06
anymore what other people think and you know we've had this conversation over and over and over again that we it it's
25:13
it's it's liberating to be able to say no I don't want to do that no I'm not
25:18
going to do this I'm not going to wear that oh don't tell me what I can wear after a certain age oh my gosh if have
25:24
you ever Googled that What Not to Wear afterwards because I never care oh my gosh like pages and pages and Pages like
25:31
it's a thing well but I'll share a funny story so um and actually I'm gonna share these when when Kathy my friend that
25:37
passed was my editor and we we actually started the um Publishing Company together and tell her
25:44
cancer put the front seat but so we wrote about one of the things that we did for the pr
25:50
tour was when Mel met Kathy when Kathy met Mel and and the stories were pretty similar but it was fun to see the
25:56
perspective and she reminded me that when I moved to Maryland I'm from San Diego
26:02
um it was in January and I didn't have a Maryland winter coat and see how to take
26:07
me shopping to find and it was fun because you show up in these funky shoes
26:12
which were like the checkerboard bands and and a cute little fur coat because she's like who are you
26:20
you're cute you were you were very cute but it was not really effective now
26:27
yeah I think you just figure out what's right works for you and you're comfortable in it and and being
26:33
comfortable in your own skin has so many connotations but it's profound it's like I get up in the morning and I have my
26:40
routine and I'm comfortable with that right when I interact with people I'm comfortable and and getting to that
26:46
place feels really good it's a journey it really does it really does and um I
26:51
never thought I would get to this point but now that I'm at this point it's like I can't imagine that I was not at this
26:57
point and I know right you know you because we all we all say yes to things
27:02
that we don't want to say yes to because we want to be the popular girl and then you realize it's like we're back in high
27:08
school again and it's kind of icky so I think when I finally realized it was
27:14
icky that I kind of stopped you know we're going to tease something right now before we go get into what you know what
27:19
we're reading and all that other stuff we're we're going we're going places we're going places we're going places
27:26
and the reason why I'm drinking a Napa wine a Napa wine is because get ready
27:32
guys Market calendars sometime in the spring we don't have the dates yet
27:37
we're gonna take an Uncorked live trip a road trip a road trip
27:44
um I don't know if everyone knows this I lived in Napa for years and years and years so we we get the opportunity to
27:51
connect with all of my contacts so all the best restaurants all the best wineries we get in behind the scenes
27:57
some really great great stuff so just put it on your calendar that you want to go with you know Mel and Karen on the
28:05
first one cork live road trip and we'll have lots of highlights for you to see and when you do take a trip there you're
28:12
gonna you're gonna have your
28:19
it's a Napa wine and we were introduced many years ago um to Beth nickel through a mutual
28:26
friend here in Tucson who went to Oklahoma state with her and their wines
28:32
are I mean they're my favorite yeah and it's unparalleled they're just beautiful yeah
28:38
they're delicious yeah and they have the most flowers on the front of their Vineyards as you go
28:44
down on the vineyard is it's a little oh my gosh it's so beautiful so beautiful you're gonna but we're gonna start from
28:51
in the desert and go up the coast you're gonna see it all you're going to see it all hey Debra good to see you what a
28:57
road trip you're gonna I'm sure you're gonna follow along yes Deborah's awesome thank you for joining in Deborah
29:04
um we're going to you know as we said we we're kind of mixing things up to this time around we're
29:10
gonna let you know what we're doing and what we're reading and what we're listening to and and some
29:16
recommendations and I'm gonna go first because because I can um because I can I'm I am very much in
29:24
the minimalism world I think less is more I truly believe less is more and
29:30
this this guy Joshua Becker um who is pretty fascinating he wrote another book
29:36
called The more of less but he's all in the minimalism um uh world and it's it's not about
29:43
um like getting rid of everything and being poor that's not what this is about it's about scaling everything back to
29:49
what's important only the things that are important and it's fascinating when you realize all
29:55
the stuff I have I have literally uh pared down every time I move I have mood
30:00
more than most people have moved I mean it's good to clean out it is so good it is liberating it is liberating I get rid
30:07
of everything and then I don't know where it all comes back again but husband husband I have to do I have
30:14
to clean the garage when he's out of town and it will be it will be years before he'll notice something's gone but
30:19
he's the biggest pack rat I me too me too we finally got our garage clean this is the other book that I'm reading I'm
30:26
very into meditation and David gandelman who is one of the um I just I adore this guy and he's very
30:33
big on insight timer which is one of the apps that I use but he now has his own apps meditation school meditation.us I
30:42
believe it's called but this is his first book The Seven energies of the soul and I love this because when I
30:49
first opened this up it I I said oh I'm a Creator oh no no no I'm the Healer oh wait maybe I'm a warrior
30:56
and literally it goes through all the different energies and you realize that we we make all of those things are part
31:03
of who we are so I encourage you go check this out it's on Amazon we'll put some links in later on you can go check
31:08
it out Mel what are you reading so I'm reading I'm always I have on my nights
31:14
10 probably 10 books and I I I I'm this so depending on my mood I might read
31:19
this so right now I'm really I'm committed to finishing book two on The Rosie Project or now it's the rosie
31:24
effect book one was fabulous he's an incredible writer and if you haven't it's a Trilogy he's Melbourne Australia
31:32
author and he's fabulous and it just his it's you read it and it's just so witty
31:38
and entertaining the second one is slower the second one is a little slower I I it's 10
31:44
it's tend to full disclosure the first one I couldn't put down I was constantly it was done in a minute yeah
31:50
um this one but part of that is because I am reading a lot of other things you saw in the that picture the Stanley 2 she looks fabulous
31:57
um and then this one is my this is my I can't put down right now and this is called find your people by Jenny Allen
32:03
and my daughter-in-law gave me this and it is the most beautiful and just
32:10
insightful book about first of all our striving to find community and find
32:16
Connection in a very disconnected world you know it's ironic or worldwide and we have the web and we're virtually
32:23
connected to everybody and we've never been really not disconnected but one thing and it was very cool she talks
32:29
about the power of the fire throughout history and
32:35
it it's a it's a uniting a connecting a comfort gathering around the fire pinch
32:40
talks about how she found her people and connection in moving to a new area and
32:45
having neighbors over and sitting around the fire put in their house so then when I had the opportunity to learn how to
32:52
make fire just seemed like a beautiful connection but I have made a notebook for myself and I'm doing work as I go
32:57
through it because there's there's just so much it's a oh my great warning it's kind of one of those aha moment books
33:03
when you're like oh I didn't I don't do that and you know we think that we're we're really good friends by always
33:09
listening and being there for everyone else but some but we need to be there and we
33:16
need to be a vulnerable and allow people to be there for us friendships and relationships need to be a two-way
33:23
street and I'm learning that more and more because I'm the one I like to just be there oh no I'm fine it's all good
33:28
it's all good all good so I don't really Express and I learned I did a lot of that at Canyon Ranch and really opened
33:33
up and it does take you to another level of moving moving through your day I'd
33:39
like to hear what what you guys are reading if you are reading something really great let us know what you're reading put it in the chat because you
33:45
know we're always well Mel has stacks of books on her nightstand so she needs a couple of more to put on her nightstand
33:50
let us know what you're reading we're not just reading though you and I both you know we have a lot of things in
33:57
common we both come from the classical music background I'm a classical pianist you are classical violinist violinist
34:05
right violence um and we both love music and we we created
34:11
a wide range and and you'll see it when you go to our Uncorked playlist which is
34:17
over on Spotify just go to uncourt playlist Dot online and Mel has curated
34:23
an amazing amount of songs we have similar likes I mean we love teddy swims
34:28
if you have not heard Teddy swims you need to go check him out this guy is freaking awesome
34:34
oh two weeks ago I saw Bonnie Raitt here in Tucson
34:39
the chick is 73 years old it was she played for two hours I mean granted
34:44
she's not Springsteen jumping around she was engaged with the audience it was one of the best concerts I've ever I've
34:50
loved her music forever and to get to see her live and to to to to to to talk
34:55
to her was incredible her music oh my gosh it was and there's also there's a lot of her I mean there's a lot of our
35:01
favorites what are you what are you loving right now Karen classical I I um
35:07
yeah classical and specifically uh the artist yuruma y-i-r-u-m-a
35:14
um and it's all piano music okay and I'm I'm a Pianist so I I love that and it is so I used to call it
35:22
elevator music but it really is it's beautiful beautiful music and um
35:27
actually some singers have he's put some words to some of the some of some of the music and they've got some singers but I
35:33
like to listen to music without words normally because otherwise my head just
35:38
starts to explode there's too much going on I don't know about you what are you listening to that you particularly like
35:44
all right well this week um I I will say I've been listening to like my favorite college song was um
35:51
Billy Joel I've Loved These days and it I just it's on repeat on my Spotify it's
35:59
just it brings back so many fabulous School memories um I Teddy swims new release new song oh
36:08
my God I knew I mean this guy there's not a single song that's bad it's bad I know but I have to right now
36:14
I think probably one of my favorite artists is Chris Stapleton he's awesome I know and he's doing an
36:20
incredible benefit concert tonight in Lexington Kentucky
36:25
um for the flood victims and at Rupp Arena and it's it's we're I'm flying there tomorrow so I missed it but his
36:33
music he just touches my soul Beyond he's amazing yeah he's amazing what I
36:38
like about him is he's he's country but he's not he he's crossed over Justin Timberlake did some stuff with him I
36:44
mean so he totally is a crossover Talent which I totally love
36:49
