0:07
it's May we're so excited to be here and
0:10
we're excited that you're here it's our
0:12
final episode of the Season welcome to
0:15
Uncorked live Karen today we are talking
0:18
about promises made kept missed awesome
0:22
we were thinking about it and we're
0:24
talking about it so stay tuned Uncorked
0:27
live with Karen Glasser and Mel
0:29
Greenberg making the most of life's Peak
0:32
stage and sharing it all with you
0:38
cheers here's to a good one it's been a
0:40
great one and we want to thank you all
0:42
it's bad luck if I don't drink so
0:46
oh my God so we have big news about what
0:49
we just said that we're going to share
0:51
with you later in the show Karen I
0:54
really thought about today's show and
0:57
first of all reflecting over the season
0:59
and when we started this whole gig our
1:02
idea to do this together we promised to
1:04
each other that we would be open to what
1:09
wherever the road would take us and it's
1:11
in a few different directions and it's
1:13
been really fun but the other thing we
1:15
promised each other was that first of
1:18
all that we would be honest with each
1:20
other if we wherever we were in this
1:22
journey and how it was working or not
1:24
working for us right and what we wanted
1:26
from it and what's been so cool is to
1:30
with whom that seems to always be on the
1:33
same page and I'm sorry I'll just say it
1:35
up front I'm sorry but you are on my
1:36
wavelength very place to be but it has
1:40
been the most incredible journey and
1:42
these Promises Kept are phenomenal and
1:45
I'm grateful and I'm going to do another
1:46
cheers and I'm grateful this is a
1:49
lesson you have to get all syrupy and
1:52
I can't see yeah no but it is I mean
1:55
it's not it's not very often that two
1:58
can come together and
2:00
hearing each other and um and making
2:04
changes as necessary and just really
2:06
diving deep in some of these topics that
2:09
we couldn't do all by ourselves right
2:11
well and I think that's part of what
2:13
makes this whole thing work and you and
2:15
we've talked about this so much how
2:17
different we are yes in so many ways
2:21
and at the bottom of that is respect and
2:24
honor yes we respect each other and
2:27
that's never changed and I love that and
2:30
it's we also on Earth's gonna be I'm
2:34
sick of that word already but our our
2:36
strengths and our weaknesses and they
2:38
complement each other really beautifully
2:40
thank goodness thank goodness but that
2:43
got it so to all of you out there what
2:45
that God is thinking as we reflected
2:48
that we make promises and we usually go
2:52
into something with the best of
2:53
intentions right whether it's your to
2:55
your family to your friends to to
2:57
yourself is usually at the bottom of the
2:59
barrel I think for most of us we put
3:00
others first and and we were really
3:03
wondering about that and we put it out
3:04
to the community and in fact that's what
3:07
came back it's like yeah always we
3:14
the grandkids everybody before us and I
3:19
almost I run you know very close and
3:21
delicate dance with feeling guilty
3:24
if I don't do for everybody else first
3:26
and so that's tricky how about you oh
3:29
well yeah I mean it is that we I think
3:31
as women I'm not going to say all women
3:34
but I think a lot of women we do take
3:37
care of everybody else and we leave
3:40
ourselves to the very end of the barrel
3:42
do you get do you catch yourself getting
3:44
resentful or do you feel unfinished in
3:48
any way with your world
3:51
um well that's it that's a tough answer
3:52
question to answer right now because I'm
3:56
um you know a very long year
3:58
um being the one who who does everything
4:03
um not to be resentful to be honest
4:08
not being resentful because at the end
4:12
if I can help somebody if I can help my
4:14
husband if I can help a friend that's
4:16
really what I'm going to want to do and
4:18
um I think the challenge is is to
4:20
remember we still have to take care of
4:21
ourselves well and I always I'm at the
4:23
point like if I can I'm always gonna
4:26
there's never a no right but sometimes
4:29
there should be or not now
4:33
God instead of not instead of no just
4:37
very much or I'd say you know I I have
4:40
actually said to people sometimes when
4:42
they've asked me because I used to say
4:43
yes to everything and now I tend to if I
4:45
can't or or I don't want to I'm busy
4:48
I'll say you know what I would really
4:50
love to help I am overly subscribed
4:53
right now and I know you'd want a
4:55
hundred percent of my attention to this
4:57
so how about if I get back to you when I
4:59
can actually give you my entire
5:01
attention to it and that shows respect
5:03
going back to your word that's beautiful
5:05
but I'm going to ask you another
5:06
question when you do that and when
5:09
you've since hit send and that email's
5:12
gone or that phone Call's done do you
5:14
then obsess about but I could have or I
5:17
should have not anymore not anymore and
5:19
as a matter of fact Mel
5:21
um I don't always do it via email I'm I
5:23
sometimes do it face to face and I find
5:26
that people have more respect from me
5:28
because they know that I'm true to my
5:31
word if I say I'm gonna do something
5:33
they know it's going to get done and if
5:35
I say not now can I come back to you
5:37
they also have a respect because they
5:39
know when I do come back to them it'll
5:43
yeah that's wonderful I I'm gonna take
5:46
that add that to my playbook I do it and
5:48
I've gotten better yeah about it and and
5:50
that it doesn't come from a place of
5:52
selfishness or or self-centeredness
5:56
but it's hard it is it's really hard it
5:59
is really hard but it feels good after
6:03
the fact when you take good care of
6:05
yourself well I think too the people I
6:07
mean the people that matter who are the
6:09
only people that matter their opinions
6:11
would know that too if you say no
6:14
because you usually do or one we usually
6:16
do say yes that if I say no I can't
6:19
they're gonna respect that because
6:22
they're gonna know I truly can't or I
6:24
would right so yeah but I like that not
6:26
now that's nice because I know very nice
6:28
way to professionally especially very
6:31
professionally you know before we jump
6:32
into anything else I want to make sure
6:34
people follow us so you get
6:36
notifications you know what's going on
6:39
um one of the places you can follow us
6:40
is on Spotify because the show is there
6:42
so go ahead scan that and it'll take you
6:44
over there you can also
6:46
um you know subscribe to us on YouTube
6:48
which we want you to go and subscribe on
6:51
YouTube and the other thing that's
6:53
really cool and we announced this last
6:54
month was that we now have an Instagram
6:56
broadcast channel which means that we
6:58
can send messages out to those people
7:00
who have subscribed it's free
7:02
um but you and I have already made the
7:04
commitment that we're going to throw
7:05
some specials into that Instagram that
7:08
nobody that it doesn't cost anything
7:10
it's it's great freebie it's a
7:14
no-brainer actually and a bit of a game
7:15
changer because as we move into season
7:18
three there is going to be a lot of
7:20
activity that you're going to want at
7:22
first town notice of so then you'll get
7:24
it right so well how many promises do
7:27
you make to other people who are all
7:29
these other people that you're making
7:30
promises you know it's mostly family but
7:33
sometimes I take on too much because I
7:35
can or or I think oh that's not that
7:37
much so I can do that and then and then
7:39
I find myself stressed out because all
7:41
of a sudden I've got this incredibly
7:43
full plate when I was really happy when
7:45
it was not quite as full right but the
7:48
other thing I've noticed is that through
7:50
trying to clear space
7:54
really focusing only on like laser focus
7:58
what I love to do what is part of my
8:01
other things that do come in that take
8:03
up space are not stressful because it I
8:06
it's part of what I'm doing and what I
8:08
enjoy so that's you know that's that's I
8:10
think that's a big part of the the
8:12
equation right but I mean you take care
8:15
of everyone we know that you know and um
8:18
I'm assuming that you're making some
8:19
promises for this summer in your travel
8:22
that you're going to keep for yourself
8:24
so what kind of promises are you making
8:26
to yourself for the for the travel
8:28
I I am writing as you know I'm
8:32
um wrapping up my uh the romance novel
8:35
the new one and I want time for that and
8:38
the places that we're going lend
8:40
themselves to sitting along a river and
8:44
the serenity of wherever we are and I'm
8:49
jealous you know so that's inspiring and
8:51
sometimes it's hard when we're traveling
8:53
because I want to do things with my
8:56
um but he's really he's really
8:58
thoughtful about that in purple hours
9:01
just go do your thing so in that regard
9:04
I will keep that promise to myself
9:06
um and honestly my big promise to myself
9:10
not overindulge and to keep working out
9:14
which is easier with our sweet Elaine
9:16
and those core 50 videos that I can take
9:21
anywhere because it's online and I can
9:23
do anywhere and actually I've thought
9:25
about some of our locations how fun that
9:28
would be to do outside on the beach
9:30
and you know I'm grateful to Elaine
9:33
she's been an amazing sponsor this
9:34
season so thank you Elaine and core
9:36
strength 50. and we've got a little clip
9:39
here of what you might get if you take a
9:41
look and I think you're going to want to
9:43
if you're over 50 and you've hit a brick
9:46
wall with your training or you're just
9:48
plain bored with your workouts I get it
9:50
I've been there too but don't give up or
9:53
give in put yourself first I've designed
9:57

9:59

10:03
consistency core strength50plus.com you
10:07

10:10
I love Elaine she's so awesome and don't
10:12
forget to pick up her freebie it's a
10:15
power yoga with light dumbbells um it's
10:17
so much fun yeah and again 20 minutes or
10:20
if you don't have 20 minutes you can do
10:21
one of the repetitions which is 10 which
10:23
who doesn't have time for 10 minutes
10:25
exactly exactly so check it out um we'll
10:27
also put the link Down Below in the copy
10:30
as well you know Karen we're talking
10:31
about this and you mentioned it earlier
10:35
what you've been going through and so I
10:38
would really like to know what promises
10:40
you maybe first have you broken any
10:42
promises to yourself no not yet not yet
10:47
a good starting place but I I have I
10:51
mean I rejoined all my wine clubs
10:53
ah and you've talked about wanting to do
10:57
I'm so excited I belong to three
11:00
different wine clubs when we lived up in
11:03
and we used to get like Yeah well yeah
11:06
well what are you gonna do when you live
11:07
there you know and you know it's
11:08
different over at five okay well that's
11:11
the thing you know when you live in Napa
11:12
there's a tendency every afternoon you
11:14
have any glass of wine you go somewhere
11:15
somebody's having a glass of wine
11:17
because it's everywhere so we I well not
11:20
we I I joined three months
11:23
um Michael doesn't drink which is funny
11:25
so and it's not that I drink all the
11:26
bottles but I love to invite people over
11:28
to drink wine with me so I have breed up
11:31
all of my wine clubs which means that
11:34
I've been getting shipments of wine like
11:36
every day another box of wine is coming
11:39
but now the Summer's here which means
11:41
that we're stopped because they can't
11:42
ship during the summer right so right
11:45
now I have a wine refrigerator full of
11:49
we're especially excited about this
11:52
so what we were drinking earlier that I
11:54
kind of yeah me too and it's whole wine
11:57
and this is Hall winery which is our new
12:00
partner and we talked about Baka wine
12:04
and it's Ellie's wine so first of all
12:08
why it's called Ellie right
12:11
so the owners Catherine and Craig hall
12:17
um Ellie is Craig's mom
12:18
and what's so cool about this if you
12:21
notice on the bottles and we had them up
12:23
but you're going to notice there's some
12:27
and on this bottle it's the owl and what
12:30
I love about what the owl symbolizes in
12:33
spirituality is inner wisdom
12:35
transformation and good luck and
12:39
self-actualization right it's really
12:41
fitting for this month's you know
12:43
conversation it is it totally is I'm um
12:47
so we're going to talk a little bit
12:48
about Ellie wine and it comes from Hall
12:51
winery it's a Cabernet and last month we
12:54
talked about the fact that I'm really a
12:56
Cabernet Drinker even though I love the
12:58
Baka wine oh my gosh that was delicious
13:00
so beautiful I literally went out and
13:02
bought six bottles of it that's how much
13:04
I liked it and and which is funny but
13:06
this is a Cabernet and as we said his
13:10
mom who was an artist and a teacher and
13:13
she inspired Craig's level bar and in
13:15
fact all of the artwork that's on all of
13:18
their bottles is my magnificent check it
13:20
out if you have not yeah amazing it's
13:22
it's absolutely amazing so as we look at
13:25
this wine and I already went ahead and
13:27
poured it as we did um last time I had
13:29
my little aerator thing here and so I
13:31
went ahead and poured it and I'm I'm
13:32
looking at it it's beautiful first of
13:34
all it's dark purple which Ruby
13:36
highlights love this what is the what is
13:38
the flavor on this one the first thing
13:40
that really hit me was BlackBerry
13:42
do you get that yeah and the cassis
13:47
and I it's we did taste it it's
13:49
delicious but here's another thing about
13:53
this Winery the wine maker is a woman
13:56
Megan Gunderson she's a woman I love
13:59
this and she's not the only woman
14:01
winemaker in Napa there are quite a few
14:04
women uh Heidi Barrett is another one um
14:07
from one of my other wineries that I
14:08
love but Megan Gunderson she is the
14:10
winemaker on this and this is a
14:12
combination of Cabernet 77 Cabernet and
14:20
2018. now back in 2018 I had just moved
14:25
from Napa to down to San Diego and I
14:28
don't know if you remember at the end of
14:31
um there was a huge fire huge fire and
14:34
like we were all on lockdown the
14:37
following the end they were really
14:38
concerned because the smoke would get
14:40
into the the grapes in 2018 when this
14:43
started first started to grow back in
14:46
and they they planted this the spring
14:48
weather was amazing so they passed all
14:50
the fire time and the weather was
14:53
amazing and it really resulted in this
14:56
incredibly smooth polished magnificent
15:00
texture and color it is magnificent
15:07
so let's talk a little bit about
15:11
well this was really interesting to me
15:13
and because I read it you know that they
15:16
are lead certified and Karen what is
15:19
lead certified so lead is an acronym it
15:21
stands for leadership in energy and
15:24
environmental design leadership and
15:27
energy and environmental design it's
15:29
perfect sense exactly and it's the
15:31
certification is mostly used for Green
15:34
Building certification in the world and
15:36
it is also a symbol of sustainability
15:38
achievement and Leadership so anyone
15:41
that has that lead certified uh which
15:44
Hall has you know that they're
15:46
sustainable and I love this we talked
15:49
about with Baka with the juicy then year
15:51
did they say you know they they use no
15:54
extra water it's head trimmed and all
15:56
that stuff same thing here so the entire
15:58
company the entire family of Hall wine
16:02
they are all about sustainability
16:04
they're all about being responsible
16:07
I love that and I I think I'm seeing
16:10
more and more Wineries and move in that
16:12
direction it used to be really hard to
16:15
biodynamic organic wines they were a
16:18
novelty now they are not the exception
16:20
and that's really important for our
16:23
bodies more than anything yeah truly
16:26
um and and they Hall winery I mean
16:29
they're they're about the luxury they
16:31
really are and they're about the
16:32
experience of savoring the most
16:35
delicious wines ever and each of their
16:37
wines are crafted with the intention of
16:39
Perfections as they as they like to say
16:42
they never sacrificed the quality they
16:44
hit it this wine is is perfection it is
16:47
perfection and what I'm impressed with
16:50
is that there's there's a scale of
16:53
points you know wine points based upon
16:56
you know the the flavor the texture the
16:59
aroma the whole thing and very few
17:01
wineries very few wineries I don't care
17:04
where it is can boast what Paul can
17:07
boast they have several 100 Point
17:10
perfect score which is no small
17:13
achievement no for one much less many
17:16
right so we're encouraging you to check
17:20
this out and what we also want to make
17:22
sure that you know I'm going to put up
17:23
the the the QR code right now but we
17:28
and if you use Uncorked you're going to
17:30
get 10 off your entire order no matter
17:32
when you use it no matter what wine you
17:34
buy I'm just going to say it doesn't
17:35
have to be today's feature it can be any
17:37
of the wineries from Hall family exactly
17:40
now this bottle is is more expensive
17:43
than the wine that we did last month
17:45
um and from Baka this is their high end
17:47
so the Hall winery has three different
17:50
um divisions they have Walt they have
17:52
vodka and they have Waltz is fabulous
17:54
absolutely and I think it's important to
17:57
share that we really
17:59
we worked with them and selected a
18:02
variety to offer that range because we
18:06
we appreciate that that we have our
18:08
listeners come from all different walks
18:10
of life and we want everyone to feel
18:12
included and able to get what we are
18:13
sharing here exactly and this is a treat
18:16
I mean this is something that if you
18:17
have a special occasion coming up maybe
18:21
um a birthday my baby turned 31 months
18:25
baby turned 31. this is something that
18:28
for a very special occasion you open
18:29
this up Let it breathe you know we
18:31
talked about it aerating you'd look at
18:34
it make and take us you know your five
18:37
s's you put your nose into it to get the
18:39
aroma you can take a look at it and then
18:41
you taste it and then the experience and
18:43
I'm telling you I mean I love the bach
18:46
experience and I love the haul
18:48
experience they do really really good
18:51
wine I think that that's something that
18:54
wine invokes the opportunity to
18:58
experience and be in the moment whether
19:01
you're with friends or family to sit
19:02
back and just relax chat enjoy and let
19:08
it all breathe let it all Let It All let
19:11
it all out I want to share some photos I
19:13
think we we mentioned last time
19:16
the bunny it's that big humana's bunny
19:19
that literally is on the road to Napa
19:22
it's literally on the side of the road
19:24
on 29. we're getting dancing I love it
19:27
and if you know and on the bottle and
19:29
I'll pick up the bottle in a second that
19:31
same bunny is on the bottle
19:33
um this is actually the winery itself
19:35
isn't it gorgeous I mean this is just so
19:37
pretty it's so old school I just so love
19:40
this and then we wanted to give you kind
19:42
of like the experience of what it would
19:44
be like to be in The Tasting Room
19:47
which we're gonna be there we're coming
19:50
yeah this fall this fall so it's it's um
19:54
let me just show you the bunny on here
19:57
oops I gotta turn it this way
20:00
this way okay see the bunny down there
20:03
under Ellie that's that same bunny
20:05
that's in the picture up there great
20:07
logo it is it is just it's so cool it's
20:10
so so cool not funny honestly makes me
20:13
feel peaceful and happy and joyful and
20:16
so much of what we get to do here the
20:18
people that we get to talk to the people
20:22
bring us to bring me that peaceful joy
20:24
and yeah there's that there's that uh QR
20:29
I'm putting it up and make sure you use
20:31
the uh Uncorked make sure you can scan
20:34
it we will put the link down below as
20:35
well in the um the comments and in the
20:38
um the show description but if you're
20:40
you know you need to do it right now go
20:42
ahead and scan this and go go get your
20:44
bottle of wine and then we want to know
20:45
how it how it tastes and how you feel
20:48
about this right we want to know how it
20:50
makes you feel how how does it take you
20:53
away you know to to Napa you got back to
20:55
that it makes you happy yeah and I
20:57
started kind of doing a promise to
20:59
myself was how I would end my evenings
21:01
and and it comes from a place because I
21:05
when I tend to stop and step back and
21:07
take time from me I will just mindlessly
21:09
do nothing and so my intent was to not
21:13
do that and to create some sort of
21:15
ritual I have a great one in the morning
21:16
my nighttime rituals tend to fluctuate
21:20
yeah but I've started you know
21:24
meditating at night and not formally but
21:26
I'll go back in in our bedroom and put
21:29
some beautiful music on and light a
21:32
candle and just kind of reflect on the
21:35
day before I wind down and what touches
21:39
me most is the music as you know and one
21:43
thing early on when I discovered that
21:44
you had had another life as a Cantor
21:46
just touched me so deeply
21:49
um as a musician myself that comes from
21:51
our soul right and you're one of your
21:54
really good friends I became a stocky
21:56
person with you because I couldn't
21:58
believe it because I have loved this man
22:00
from the first time I heard him decades
22:03
ago and you he interviewed him you've
22:06
interviewed him multiple times but
22:09
he's he's here with you and we're here
22:12
to share it with you and this is your
22:13
good friend Dave cause
22:15
who my heart what an incredible musician
22:19
and spirit oh he is he is
22:22
just take a listen I picked up the
22:24
saxophone when I was 13.
22:27
um that was after playing a couple of
22:28
other instruments really badly and the
22:30
saxophone came to me at a time when I
22:33
needed a best friend and summer to talk
22:35
to and I couldn't necessarily put into
22:37
words what I was feeling inside and the
22:39
saxophone was that vehicle it just it
22:42
was there for me uh always and then but
22:46
I never really planned on that being my
22:48
my life and career but there were other
22:51
people along the sidelines of my life
22:53
that became those very very important
22:55
people that said no this is something
22:57
that you need to do you need to be able
22:59
to to play this instrument and and they
23:02
nurtured me and gave me opportunities
23:04
that gave me a career so I'm very
23:07
grateful to those people my brother is
23:08
one of them a guy named Jeff lorber is
23:10
another one uh Bobby Caldwell
23:13
um Bruce lundball who signed me to my
23:15
first record deal of Capital Records
23:17
Karen he is just sweeter than I could
23:20
ever imagine I do hope I get to meet him
23:22
someday at your house
23:26
one of my favorite it has become with my
23:30
granddaughter I play his lullaby
23:32
collection and she was an infant it was
23:35
especially sweet because that now that's
23:38
and even now when I take her for a nap
23:40
she doesn't necessarily need the nap
23:42
music but it makes me happy so it's a
23:45
beautiful collection of lullabies so
23:46
give a listen to that to that yeah he's
23:49
amazing I love him I know I love him and
23:52
it's fun you know when you grow up with
23:54
somebody because I grew up with him and
23:58
um to see how far people in your network
24:00
and were people that you know you used
24:02
to know to see what they're doing now
24:04
and where they've gone and
24:06
um you know even even within the last 10
24:08
years he has his his audience has
24:11
changed and his popularity has just
24:13
exploded and and I'm so happy he is so
24:17
genuine and so humble and that's real
24:19
because I had the privilege of of
24:21
working and editing the interview and
24:24
when you guys are just talking that's
24:26
who he is it's just beautiful to see
24:28
especially when it reaches that level of
24:31
Fame and notoriety yeah very cool very
24:34
incredible yeah beautiful so we want to
24:36
make sure you guys check in the show
24:38
notes because we have our our very
24:41

26:09
wow we're winding down the second season
26:14
winding down this hour I have to say
26:17
something about my voice because it's
26:18
driving me crazy I hope it's not driving
26:20
all of you crazy allergies in the desert
26:22
have been off the charts this year and I
26:25
I've just now gotten my raspy hockey
26:29
voice it's sexy it's very sexy I like it
26:32
when it's that way but it was really
26:33
awful and now it's just kind of nasally
26:36
I feel like one of those cartoon
26:39
so but Summer's here and it will go away
26:41
and it will pass like most things that
26:44
are good we one thing that we're we are
26:47
enjoying ourselves we are keeping the
26:48
promises to ourselves to relax and take
26:51
care of ourselves this summer but we're
26:53
going to be working and we're working a
26:55
lot of really exciting things for season
26:57
three do you want to start all right we
27:00
want to make sure first of all that you
27:01
subscribe for this because we're going
27:03

27:05
want to make sure that you get on that
27:06

home which is I'm really excited but
27:22
we're going to eat good food we're going
27:24
to see great people drink great wine but
27:26
we're going there for a reason not just
27:28
to go have a fun time yeah we're gonna
27:30
have fun too well we're gonna have fun
27:31
too why are we going
27:34
we are it's pre-planning yeah we're
27:37

27:54
looking forward to doing this in at the
27:56
end of the summer because it's like
27:58
requainting myself with with everything
28:00

28:21
um it's gonna be a really fun adventure
28:23

28:28
planned after we're up there and through
28:31
being there and then that will be
28:32
offered through the broadcast General
28:35
notices and subscription notices and we
28:37
will make sure that you can follow us as
28:39
we take our road trip up there we'll
28:41
we'll tease you with some Snippets and
28:43
things like that but as you said it is
28:45
going to be a small group that we're
28:46
taking so that's why we're kind of
28:47
starting to let you know now because we
28:49
want you to think about it so that when
28:51
we do let you know what's happening you
