thank you hey everybody welcome back to another episode of Uncorked live it's the new
0:14
year you're thinking about it and we're talking about it so stay tuned Uncorked
0:20
live with Karen Glasser and Mel Greenberg making the most of life's Peak stage and sharing it all with you
0:30
what are you drinking today I'm drinking vuv I finally feel prepared
0:35
to to celebrate with like we drink every show but this one it's new year so we're happy New Year I'm I'm doing gin and
0:42
tonic I'm doing a gin and tonic so uh yeah it's delicious it's my drink of choice when I'm not drinking wine
0:49
really yeah I don't like it too let's give it a cheers cheers
0:55
So today we're asking the question where do you want to be next year
1:00
and in fact we asked all of you and we got some amazing answers first of all
1:06
thank you because we love when you're part of this and you make it special and we're going to talk about some of them
1:11
and one question we got was how can I get past making resolutions because they
1:18
never stick they don't work and we talked about that even last year I
1:23
believe it firmly Karen do you believe it I don't even call them resolutions they don't work you set yourself up to
1:30
fail and there's actually reason there's there's there are studies done about why that is and we'll get into that a little
1:36
bit later but we want to talk about that when when I thought about where I want to be next
1:41
year I it was pretty clear for me I had three things and I was able to ask the questions why
1:48
why now and what am I going to do and that's the biggest thing how about you oh well I'm you know I'm constantly in
1:56
this health thing right now so I want to be next year not talking about health to
2:01
be honest I know that sounds weird but you know I I've got lofty goals and
2:06
lofty intentions but a year from now I don't I truly do not want to be sitting
2:11
here saying I'm hoping that we have health again and and it's it's kind of a
2:17
sad thing to say because that's all I've been talking about all year long so my intention next year or this year rather
2:23
is not to be talking about health but honestly even without catastrophic
2:29
situations such as yours as we age our health becomes a bigger part of the
2:36
conversation and I can remember this you know being in my 30s and 40s listening to my in-laws let's go to this doctor
2:42
appointment everything was health related and they were in their 60s right and now here I am in my 60s and it's
2:48
like oh I've got this appointment now I'm doing this so taking care of this and I feel like it's on rewind and I
2:53
just think it's part of yeah sort of taking care of ourselves so so wanting
2:59
to maintain and keep good health is is Right bigger part of the conversation now it is it is but I don't want it to
3:05
be the only part of my conversation you know I sometimes and I as you know we I don't go out that much but on the few
3:11
occasions that I have been at we sit around the table and we're talking for whatever reason because we're all kind of the same age it goes to health it
3:19
goes to what medication are you using right or what happened and I you're
3:24
right it happens at this stage of life I mean it's like when you're a new parent and you're surrounded with other
3:31
new parents that that's the central focus of your conversation child wearing your books your interests all those
3:38
things central part of our focus is staying alive
3:43
staying alive I mean it sounds silly right I know and well and healthy and well and healthy and well and healthy um
3:51
I saw one of the other questions was that um I want to be self-employed oh yeah
4:00
and it's it's hard to do it is but you know what
4:06
everything that's worthwhile is is hard to do and it can be kind of scary you're an entrepreneur you know and I'm an
4:12
entrepreneur and you know I'm self-employed you're self-employed and as
4:19
are you self-employed yourself my husband might begged a difference
4:26
um but you know I'm self-employed which means it doesn't what it doesn't mean is is that um
4:31
I don't rely on our household income in addition to my self-employment income right and I'm fortunate that way when
4:38
you don't go somewhere you don't punch a clock you're not committed you are exploring and pursuing things for your
4:44
for yourself right I'd rather work really hard for my youngest son and I were talking about
4:51
that because even back when there was an opportunity when I was working before I had stopped working and had children and
4:57
I had an opportunity to be on salary or Commissioned I always chose Commission
5:04
because I knew then that the ceiling was up to me and I knew my work ethic that
5:10
all the I would work harder and I would make more than I ever possibly could on salary right but I mean but you know
5:17
what then that's honoring who you are too and yes there are worker bees and there are owner bees and they're all
5:22
good they're all necessary but do you think so let me ask you this because this is great and the question was it
5:28
scary stuff and and making that kind of magnanimous change in your life at any
5:33
age is scary but as you get older even scarier right do you think so I just
5:39
turned 63 January celebrating big month you just turned 66. does that impact the
5:48
the risks we're willing to take because we don't have the window you know that little Windows closing weather we
5:53
healthy or not you know there is the lights dimming such an interesting question Mel it is such an interesting
6:00
question because I find myself quite often these days as I embark on
6:06
new projects and new um ideas I'm always you know I always say I'm thinking and that's dangerous I
6:13
I always in the back of my mind is I'm 66. should I be starting something like this
6:20
right now I don't really consider myself old I really don't
6:25
but I'm closer to the end than I am to the beginning there's more in the rear
6:31
view mirror and so I find myself and then I kick myself because it's not healthy to say somehow I can't do
6:38
something because I'm 66 years old I can do something but I would be lying if I
6:44
said it doesn't sometimes cross my mind how about you I I I'm echoing everything
6:49
you're saying and it's this really like frenetic dance I do in my head as if there's not enough going on in there
6:55
anyway of you know you're only 63 what the hell's the matter with you right you
7:01
can do this this and this but then the other side of it is like you're 63. I want to sit home and relax and write my
7:07
little romance books and enjoy my granddaughter I don't need to save the world right now that's the a different General I mean my
7:14
wants are different and it's not the generations are important to me other things are more important to me given
7:20
that closing window I and I think you said it it's a different generation our parents generation
7:27
at 63 was maybe not starting all these new projects and was maybe not doing the
7:34
stuff that we are doing at this age because times have changed have you ever looked at pictures of people in their
7:41
60s from the past I know the best was so remember when JLo performed at the Super Bowl and there was this is 50 and then
7:49
the Golden Girls now glaring right at you they're glaring
7:55
when I went on below deck Mediterranean we were called The Golden Girls there were six of us and there's a picture
8:00
that's hysterical I probably should you know make a link sitting on a couch
8:06
um sitting there and we're on a couch and and we're all smiling and they call this
8:12
The Golden Girls and some of the girls some of the women on the trip said I am I am not a golden girl they they took
8:18
offense at it because if you go look at pictures of The Golden Girls not me of
8:24
our age they look like our grandmothers or our great grandmothers and so I of
8:30
course like to jump into that and say yeah we are golden girls so I put a social media post out that literally had
8:36
Golden Girls of the 70s or whatever year it was and Golden Girls of the of the you know
8:42
2000s and here we are and it was hysterical and we I have to tell you that went viral
8:48
I believe it and I you know what I you just hit something and I think that it's both I think that that we are a
8:55
different generation we are still very vibrant and view the aging process quite
9:00
differently than our parents did and our grandparents right but it's also
9:06
acknowledging the fact that like I said there is more in the review mirror the
9:11
window is closing no matter you can fight it all you want you can say whatever you want but you have a limited you're in the fourth quarter as my
9:17
husband likes to use that analogy yeah football family and it's a really valid one and at the end of the day how do you
9:25
want to spend that time and it doesn't mean that you don't want to take challenges or you don't you know but you
9:31
don't have you're not you don't you're not afforded the ability to ride certain things out
9:37
because time is limited so how do you want to do that how do you want to go through that and for me it truly is
9:44
clearing my plate and only doing things and making time for things you don't
9:49
really matter and fulfill me and it might be me and maybe this year maybe 2023 I I've been really big into this
9:56
whole manifesting thing I mean I've always been there but I've found some clarity with it and and you actually
10:02
turns me on to Mel Robbins so thank you because I love now docky obsessed fan I love her and and one of her shows was
10:10
about manifesting and I always used to meet friends January and we would cut out pictures and make these lovely
10:16
vision boards she took it to a whole other level and it resonated so deeply
10:21
with me about what it means to manifest and you know it's not just looking at
10:26
the picture it's are you willing to do the work do you what do you want so that kind of goes to this at 63 yes this is
10:33
what I would like am I willing to do the work that's a good question such a good question I think it's a good question
10:38
for everything am I willing to do what it takes to get to the next place whatever because it'd be successful in
10:44
the job or to whatever you know Hobbies so I wouldn't do the work to that person
10:49
out there that sent in that awesome question about starting becoming self-employed go for it if
10:56
you're willing to do the work and and keep us posted and there's so many great rewards yeah keep us posted we want to
11:02
know we want to know what's going on so you mentioned the manifestations that the Mel Robbins and she had a great it
11:08
was a great podcast about four manifestations so what does manifesting actually mean
11:15
so it's it really is intentionally I'm going to read this because it was so she
11:21
does so much work before she says anything so I feel really good about sharing this with you it's intentionally
11:27
training your brain and your nervous system to believe in something that hasn't happened yet so maybe so when you
11:33
make those vision boards which we I've done and and I love some of mine I look at them like oh my God I did that that
11:39
year so I don't know which came first the chicken or the egg but you you picture something you imagine something
11:46
that you want and you tell it but you have you can't just say oh I I want that
11:52
you know plain I want my own plane and then sit there and wait for it to happen right and that doesn't work no so again
12:00
are you willing to do the work and it doesn't happen overnight and and only you have to be honest with yourself you
12:05
don't have to tell anybody else but but manifesting doesn't just mean picturing it it's going to happen you've got to be
12:11
willing to do all the work right and I actually have put it out there yeah yeah you have to put it out there if you
12:16
don't put it out what put out does come back you put out negative energy I I am convinced the negatives
12:23
I actually have my vision board as a screen saver on my desktop
12:29
so when I sit here I love that every single day and it's not like my goals
12:35
it's the things that I'm actually doing every day it's a reminder it's meditate it says it's a there's a picture of me
12:42
meditating there and there's a picture of walking and there's a picture drinking water the things that the
12:48
habits that I sometimes have uh the need to be reminded because I don't know I
12:56
was just gonna say that maybe part of those vision boards serve as kind of just a kick in the butt to
13:03
remind you like you know not that oh I see that it's gonna happen again I'll go back to the private plane
13:09
but maybe it's you know what I like Comfort I want to work harder and if I
13:16
don't get that that's okay but I might get other things along the way so it's just a reminder you want to relax so
13:21
seeing pictures of meditation it's a reminder I need to breathe I need to stop just for a minute that's a nice
13:28
reminder it doesn't have to have an end goal quite the same way I mean it's you know I'm not one to cut out paper and do
13:34
the you know the the vision boards which is how they originally set out you know I love doing that that's why we're so different
13:40
so canva for those of you who are saying oh that sounds cool maybe I'll put a vision board on my computer go into
13:46
canva it's a free platform and just search vision boards there's literally a
13:51
category called vision boards and you just pop pictures in to the places and
13:57
change the words it's the easiest thing and I change it out so you know it's a cool thing it's kind of cool and you can
14:03
look in the show notes we'll put a link to camera yeah we'll put a show we'll put a link into make it easy for you even easier
14:09
and buying all the magazines it's harder to find them though yeah I did it's digital right so the second thing that
14:16
she says the Mill says is visualize the steps to reach your dream right not just the end goal so break it into tiny
14:22
little pieces uh just literally visualize yourself doing each thing and
14:28
what it looks like at the end when I manifest and when I do things like that I do everything in the present tense
14:34
because of our brain everything is in the present so if if
14:40
you say I am a successful self-employed person
14:45
instead of I want to be I want to be different than I want to be so you know again I read
14:52
gazillion self-help books and personal development books and they all say the same thing that our brain thinks in the
14:58
present not what you hope to do but you tell your brain right now that I'm
15:03
successful or I'm I'm uh enjoying life I have a great family all of those things
15:09
you are more apt to reach them because your brain always has an already
15:14
has an expectation that you're there it's a really cool thing when you think about it how smart we are I do think
15:20
there is a spiritual component to this that's not mentioned that I deeply believe if you
15:28
believe and you put it out there and it's truly in your soul and you again
15:34
maybe maybe it's a process that that you have done the work already and you don't even know it I don't know but there's
15:41
something and I'm going to give an example that I've shared with you in the past um recently we bought land to build my
15:48
dream Ranch I two weeks before that land came to us in an email I was with my
15:55
best friend here in Tucson and she was said oh you should you know get a house in our neighborhood they're they're redoing at home and it's a beautiful
16:01
neighborhood not what I want and I literally said to her exactly
16:06
what I wanted and if I found it great if not I was happy to stay in my house forever that's two weeks later exactly I
16:14
felt like somebody was listening and just put it into the computer and sent it to me so I don't know how that happens but it did well I actually the
16:21
I'm I told you I have a book that I'm reading we're going to talk about just in a few minutes that actually talks
16:27
about that that's all about your mind and how you can actually make things happen
16:36
and then you know we already said you have to do the work and all of that you know when you're visualizing and
16:42
actually take the action of course you can't just put it out there and then say well I'm just gonna go away and then
16:47
when I come back it's all going to be there wouldn't that be nice right and you can't and don't get impatient don't give up so like back to that person that
16:54
is thinking about starting their own or becoming self-employed might not happen right away
16:59
so but again if you really want it don't give up because sometimes the minute you it's that moment that you give up that
17:06
if you're just right a little bit harder and that's when you make those decisions and
17:12
you know in terms of manifesting most of us cannot actually picture ourselves one year out it just doesn't seem like a
17:18
long enough time how fast time goes so one of the other things that I've learned is to is to actually manifest
17:24
where you intend to be three years from now because you have time to do it
17:31
well and that is one thing that Mel Robbins talks about it doesn't happen overnight are you willing to spend the
17:37
next three five ten years making these dreams come true working for them my
17:42
youngest my son always I didn't know this until he was out just out of grad school that he always makes a five-year
17:47
plan for himself and he's on Target and then his Five-Year Plan ended after grad school and he started another one and I
17:53
love that and it otherwise you just kind of all of a sudden you wake up and it's 20 years later and and you so the
17:59
question I want to ask you how did he know to do that does he did you I don't know that's that's really cool
18:05
younger person to do that yeah I I it's I mean his little nickname
18:11
when he was in preschool was diligent Dylan so there's that maybe it's just his how he's wired I
18:17
don't know yeah but my other son's the same way I mean they're very maybe they see my husband how he calculated and
18:23
planned and built his companies you know so you don't just do that overnight so our kids watch us our kids watch us
18:30
and they listen and they they see what they see what's going on so you know celebrities it's like that 10-year
18:38
overnight success oh it's not it's a long process so right you know and I
18:43
think what we're really saying is towards you know when we get to the new year maybe we're going to refocus maybe
18:48
we're going to commit to something that's new or we're going to do a change and and can that all be good for us if
18:55
we refocus and we commit to something new can change is hard change is hard
19:01
and it's because it's scary and the older you get the scarier it seems to be
19:06
right the stakes are higher and right exactly you're less motivated it's like I'm good I'll stay I'm like I think
19:14
I just want to sit on my couch I know right give me the remote this is totally a year for refocusing
19:21
for me and courage that's my word for the year is being courageous to face whatever is going to happen in this year
19:27
and we are refocusing and I'm literally starting to plan because I just made that commitment as to what I'm going to
19:33
do towards the end of the year when my husband is healthy and we can actually do something and actually plan to do
19:41
something so I'm planning a trip literally to Hawaii on a cruise ship a
19:47
two-week cruise to Hawaii I love it how fun is that we're Cruisers we love to cruise and I know you love to cruise as
19:53
well you're doing the well we'll talk about that in a sec but I I that's when I'm that is actually an intention of
19:59
mine um together we're planning it so that it's something to look forward to as we get
20:05
past this crazy right now so that's what we have to have we have to have something to look forward to because
20:11
even in the darkest times even like through the early stages of Kobe we had to to seek out something to be hopeful
20:17
for right so what are you doing I know you have a cruise coming up we are going on
20:24
a Valentine's day cruise back to Virgin we loved our virgin experience so we're doing a nine-day cruise in the Caribbean
20:32
with some good friends I am so jealous I'm excited one of these days I'm gonna
20:39
go with you I know and then it'll be then it'll be trouble but good trouble right
20:45
and and with this conversation travels change I mean you don't even have to turn the
20:52
TV on to know how many flights were canceled over the holidays and how many people were stranded in airports and and
20:59
Luggage everywhere and not even travel has changed travel has changed it does
21:05
travel you you travel you don't have an issue with that we still do but it's
21:11
we I mean we talk about it and we complain about it to each other but but then it's like well look what we're doing though so yeah it is it's not a
21:18
fun process anymore right now you get when you get there it's great but getting there used to be it used to be
21:24
that used to be part of the trip right you go to the airport you'd have a drink and then you know and then you you'd get
21:30
up there you go and it's like please it was now
21:36
the idea of getting on a plane personally for me is not going to happen that's why we're going to cruise we'll drive our car over to the the dock where
21:42
they the ship goes and for me so we're gonna work around my fear right now who knows by the time September rolls around
21:49
things are going to be great it will be and I'll be happy to get on a plane but we're working we're working but
21:55
traveling totally um because everything impacts it
22:00
everything packs our travel totally yeah I I think that
22:06
anything that we can do to enhance our lives right
22:12
um whether we have lofty goals and New Year's intentions whatever you would like to call them right do them my word
22:20
for the year is up and it's to to look up to be up to feel up and and I want to
22:26
just do that even with all the mishigas with traveling I want to just right you
22:31
know what look what I get to do I'm going on a cruise focusing on the crap and all the you know
22:38
that's a great word I look up to you your good influence on me you are constantly pushing me out of my comfort
22:45
zone um and that's not a bad thing at all that's a really really good thing we all
22:50
need it we all need a Mel in our lives [Music] and you introduced me to Elaine
22:58
well and talk about a game changer you know and there's
23:03
there's so much stuff that's just come out because of course Fitness I mean I don't even think it January first hits
23:09
my inbox starts to be filled with diets you know health club membership everything because that's the biggest
23:16
plus but there's a lot of stuff coming out um reinforcing that less is more that
23:22
you do not need to spend hours in a gym that in fact you can minimize your experience and get the same results and
23:29
we've already found this with Elaine because who can't find 10 to 20 minutes they're 20 minute routines but if you
23:35
only have time for half of it you can do 10. right easily when you travel you know you can do it and you can do it
23:41
with core strength 50. just watch this video we'll be right back foreign

24:23
sequence okay I laugh every time the link will be in the show copy but I
24:30
just have to tell you because I do walk every single day and I'm gonna just stand up because I am literally in my
24:37
exercise outfit I don't think I can stand all the way up in my little sports bra and I want to show you something I
24:43
I'm showing you the fact that I have you know my stretch marks and I have all that stuff and I can wear them properly
24:50
I wear it anyways and you're bragging because you live in the desert and the people watching this
24:55
that are under snow are jealous but you know I'm starting to get my abs
25:00
back and I'm walking and I'm proud of this I'm not proud of this 20 minutes a day 10 minutes I walk my dog
25:08
I know but with but with the lane yeah I have to spend hours in the gym right not
25:14
that I did anyway but now I can now it's Justified well I think it's all how you exercise
25:19
and if you do the right things in the right order of the right equipment not even having equipment you're going to
25:26
get the same effect even Mel Robbins has a show all about that
25:32
about the fact that getting up to exercise is just not her idea of fun but
25:38
somebody a guest I was telling her you can literally do that same exercise but only do it for one minute and do
25:44
this instead and it will have the same exactly and she was like I'm in I'm in
25:50
but it's true and it's but and it comes back all of this circles back to number
25:55
one focus and being present because if you go and spend two hours at the gym
26:01
but you're here you're there you're talking you really haven't accomplished what you went there to do when I go in
26:07
in my room and I work I do this workout I'm deadly laser focused get it done
26:14
right easily you're done and I'm done and and the results are tremendous yeah
26:22
we encourage you to go you know check it out um you can go check out our website as
26:27
well at www.course strength50plus.com
26:34
go get your freebie perky butt thing like a stupid little kid that
26:40
little houses like that a bad joke
26:48
everyone remember a barrel list it's time for our Barrel list and um we're going to start
26:55
with books today uh and earlier I mentioned the fact that the whole idea
27:01
of manifesting and that you can literally create the end in your head and and be there I am all over this guy
27:08
it's called The Silver mind control method but Jose Silva look him up this guy is a
27:14
a mega Guru he's no longer alive but basically when he was
27:20
um a young parent and he had it he was watching his kids
27:26
struggle in school and they would go and try to study and he would test them and he just they couldn't do it and he
27:33
literally started to uh train them and doing all these questions and all of a
27:38
sudden his daughter starts answering questions that he hasn't even asked her yet
27:44
he hadn't even formed the question to come out and he literally taught her ESP and what
27:53
what the experts were saying back then oh no no you can't teach ESP and he said
27:58
watch me and he literally went into a school a classroom of of all her friends in that classroom
28:06
and he taught them all the same thing all of them there's their grades went up
28:12
their scores went up they literally were able to and so when I heard that story
28:17
not that I'm you know gonna go back to school and do any of that stuff but he talks about a whole different way of
28:24
meditation and he talks about getting we all we are all normally in um beta right beta it's
28:32
like our everyday then you go into alpha alpha is the level when you are literally focused really really focused
28:38
on what you're doing and they teach you how to go on Alpha like that and I'm going to teach you
28:43
right now okay when you you can either close your eyes or look straight ahead but then
28:49
with your eyes go up 45 percent from where you are and just hold it I do
28:55
it with my eyes closed and I'm going to tell you that if if you do that without being distracted by what we're doing
29:00
here you are going to feel yourself literally go somewhere else that's your third eye you're focusing in on your
29:07
third eye it's so cool then then he teaches you how to go into Delta and into Theta and it's an old program
29:14
um I'm it's got it hosted notes in my book that's how cool
29:19
this is and I was really excited when you were talking about intentions and what Mel Robbins said because yeah it
29:25
really this is not you know woo-woo it really I thought it was yeah not it is a
29:31
science this is all backed by science I'm getting very excited about this so I encourage you what do you what do you I
29:37
know you have an interview you did a really cool interview I did and I'm excited I'm still reading for
29:43
entertainment the mutual fund by Carter Bayes one of our longtime favorite shows was How I Met Your Mother and it is he's
29:49
a great great writer it's fabulous and it's I'd say it's light reading but
29:56
there's so much reality that you're hit with that that it's like oh my God I do that oh this is our life that it's a
30:02
little overwhelming so I would highly recommend a great read um and yes so I interviewed the most
30:08
fascinating man Stuart lickman he's world-renowned author researcher coach entrepreneur you name it guy his degrees
30:15
from MIT he's owned companies all over the world he's 84 years old and he's out to literally save the world and and I
30:23
think he's gonna do it all by himself he taught he his newest book called
30:30
um make your life a 10. touches on how you can
30:37
consciously manage the unconscious mind and he goes into great detail in the
30:43
interview I'm not going to spoil it any about here's a little clip now just to give you a taste what does that mean
30:48
your unconscious mind does all the doing you may not remember when you learned to read but if you've watched a kid
30:55
learning to read yes it's like a four or five year process
31:01
first I have to learn that certain sounds are associated with objects
31:08
action to people and so forth now if you pick up a book you look you know what it says
31:14
that's all done unconsciously Satan driving a car scenting walking the
31:21
unconscious front seats the conscious mind which can handle them most people
31:27
maximum three things at once just to unfit the world look at the
31:33
corner of the room that you're in and you can see white width and height at the same time
31:40
that's tricky that's only four dimensions how many dimensions are we
31:45
talking about anything more than three dimensions is called by fancy name hyperspace
31:52
so on that hyperspace people with similar personalities on Country personalities
31:58
clustered together and humans are good at that I came up
32:04
with a human version of the same thing and you just think of people who are
32:12
similar to each other and so forth is that why you're drawn to like just
32:19
naturally you're drawn to certain personalities or away from certain personalities
32:25
well there are two factors one is a recognition which is what I just said
32:30
the second is karma that was amazing this guy is fascinating 84 years old
32:37
goes back to the question can we do anything at any age yes yes
32:42
and you guys can listen to the whole interview we put the link into the show
32:48
notes below check it out let us know what you think I love this show Mel we are literally connecting the dots with
32:55
between uh Mel Robbins you know manifestation and Jose Silva's uh the
33:02
you know the Silver mind control and and now we have um the the author who's talking about
33:08
the same basically manifest I just love this changing your thinking
33:14
I love that that unconsciously consciously managing the unconscious mind blew my mind yeah that yeah it's
33:23
