0:05
hello everyone Karen Glasser here and
0:07
welcome to life Uncorked aging like a
0:10
fine wine I'm here with Robin Saul she's
0:13
the CEO an entrepreneur and publisher of
0:17
Tangled silver magazine just to name a
0:20
few things because you are very very
0:22
versed in so many things welcome to the
0:25
show Robin thank you let's talk about
0:28
your story how did you get to where you
0:32
are now let us know a little bit about
0:36
sols well you know I've been an
0:38
entrepreneur I think at I think when I
0:40
was born it was like going to be all
0:41
over me entrepreneur some in some manner
0:43
or somewhere or another I was that
0:44
little girl that when I was able to
0:45
babysit had the babysit book with all
0:47
the crafts all the creative stuff
0:49
because this was like I had to be the
0:50
number one babysitter right like the
0:52
most fun and it just kind of continued
0:54
on you know I daed on a couple things
0:56
but I always went back to that
0:57
entrepreneur spirit and uh in 2012 I was
1:01
really at a place where my daughter was
1:02
graduating and I needed to make a change
1:04
so I thought I love wine so I created
1:06
wine events because there weren't a lot
1:08
of wine events happening in the state
1:12
cheers so we we started doing exactly I
1:15
life on card we started doing um it was
1:16
called girls going grape and we started
1:18
doing wine events and during that
1:20
process I was doing newsletters and I'm
1:22
also a writer and I created my first
1:24
digital magazine called sip on life and
1:27
my key with that was I was spotlighting
1:29
women wine makers because I didn't feel
1:30
like they were getting enough
1:32
recognition amongst the wine makers yeah
1:35
fast forward then to 20 um 18 I decided
1:39
to embrace my gray and silver hair um
1:42
was looking around and realizing that
1:43
there were not any images in my mind
1:46
that actually spoke to what I thought I
1:47
could look like letting my hair go
1:49
silver right and I was kind of getting
1:51
frustrated and so I was just as I was
1:53
looking around and Co happened and my
1:56
Sion Life Magazine kind of took a
1:58
backseat because winers were closed
2:00
everything was kind of changing and I
2:02
found myself being so involved in how to
2:04
help women Embrace themselves and
2:07
celebrate it and not feel like we have
2:09
to hide underneath our hair color and I
2:12
just decided I'm gonna I'm going to put
2:13
a magazine out to that speaks to that
2:15
just like I did before and so I just
2:17
kind of dove in I think I made the
2:19
announcement in December of 2020 that in
2:22
like four weeks or six weeks I was you
2:24
know January 15th I was dropping
2:26
dropping Tangled silver magazine and my
2:29
husband came upstairs and he was like do
2:31
you know what you just posted I'm like I
2:34
went have you even have you even talked
2:36
to anybody yet I'm like no but I know
2:38
all the women I'm going to reach out for
2:39
this first issue and he's like oh here
2:44
you I just kind of I kind of jumped in I
2:47
was like that first issue maybe was not
2:49
the full height of what I wanted it to
2:52
be but I like I said I was going to do
2:54
it I was like Hecker high water that was
2:55
going to happen in January and so we
2:57
launched and we've just gone since and
2:59
the rest and the rest is history right
3:01
and you know this show is all about
3:03
ordinary people doing extraordinary
3:06
things and you literally said I think
3:08
I'm gonna launch a magazine and I'm
3:10
going to do it in four weeks who does
3:12
that you apparently did that and here we
3:16
2024 and your magazine is very very
3:19
successful it's actually how I found you
3:22
um as I was looking for role models and
3:24
people in our world that are gray and
3:27
doing amazing things and there you were
3:30
so that's where you've been where do you
3:32
want to go and and what inspires you or
3:35
motivates you at this time oh my gosh
3:38
it's all the women I'm getting to meet
3:40
all the women are sharing their stories
3:41
and I mean they're honoring me by
3:43
sharing their stories and letting me
3:45
share them with the world because like
3:46
you said they're ordinary women that
3:48
like may have started off with a hair
3:50
color choice and what I think people
3:51
don't realize is that it starts off as
3:54
maybe just that choice to not color or
3:55
to color and then all of a sudden we're
3:57
peeling back all these layers of of
4:00
ourselves from that one simple decision
4:02
and suddenly it becomes this whole
4:04
massive thing and we're turning into
4:05
women that are now like starting new
4:07
careers we're leaving the corporate
4:08
world we're doing just amazing things um
4:11
there are women that are now never would
4:12
have thought of themselves as models
4:14
that have been able to turn their
4:16
letting their come into a modeling
4:18
career um so they really excite me so I
4:21
love you know I see traveling more we're
4:24
we're going to do our first live event
4:25
in September out here in Colorado I to
4:28
do more of that and actually getting to
4:31
be in and seeing the people and hugging
4:33
the people I'm a big hugger so these
4:35
virtual things like this are great but
4:36
for the hugger me I'm like oh I gotta
4:38
meet these people in person so that's
4:40
what sharing I I love this and and and
4:44
if you whether you're live or on replay
4:46
right now listening we'll put a link to
4:47
that event in the comments down below so
4:50
that you can go check it out because I
4:52
know it's going to be a blast I I know
4:54
it's going to be a blast I'm just
4:55
curious because you grew your hair out I
4:57
guess in 2018 I grew my hair out in
5:00
2016 did that change how you looked at
5:04
life once it was grown out oh my gosh
5:07
totally I mean I just I didn't realize
5:11
how much I had let all the spoonfed
5:13
stories that weren't my stories really
5:15
affect me in my mind until I started
5:17
letting my hair out because I kind of
5:19
had to take the stance like people are
5:21
not going to be necessarily receptive to
5:22
it at first they might fight me a little
5:25
bit on it so I had to I had to like
5:27
build this this um I don't what I want
5:30
to call it like I don't want to say like
5:31
a shield but like I had to build this
5:33
strength of character to know that like
5:34
this is about me and not about them and
5:37
whatever they have to say doesn't NE
5:39
isn't a reflection of who I am but maybe
5:40
more their own stuff about aging right
5:43
and I just knew I was ready to let go of
5:45
it so yes it completely changed my
5:47
mindset I found myself being more
5:50
understanding to all the other
5:51
perspectives that are out there um
5:54
becoming more of sort of like my own
5:56
Warrior inside because all of a sudden I
5:58
felt strong enough to be like hey what
6:00
I'm doing isn't hurting you there you go
6:02
it's confidence right and I stopped
6:04
being quiet I was so hushed all the time
6:07
and you know Robin you talk too much
6:08
Robin you do this Robin you repeat
6:10
yourself too much I was like well yeah
6:12
but maybe maybe that repetition needs to
6:14
take place so you hear it and like right
6:16
now I think we need to hear that no
6:18
matter what our age are we're relevant
6:19
right we are relevant regardless of our
6:21
age and so many of us start feeling like
6:22
we're not as relevant as we get older
6:25
because of again those spoonfed stories
6:26
that are totally not our own stories but
6:28
we let them sneak again and I kind of
6:31
think that we were at the the Forefront
6:33
because if you look right now on
6:35
magazine covers and in news newspapers
6:37
and well those still have newspapers I'm
6:40
not sure there's that many of them but
6:41
television we are seeing celebrities who
6:44
are saying you know Pamela Sue Anderson
6:47
and um uh jaam Lee Curtis they are they
6:50
are just glorious in their in in the way
6:54
they're showing up in the world whether
6:55
it's gray hair no makeup the whole thing
6:58
I love it exactly yeah my my message is
7:00
always we should be defining women
7:02
should be defining Beauty and agent on
7:04
their terms so if you want a color
7:06
because that's what makes you feel
7:07
beautiful then do it but if you are like
7:09
me I didn't want to color and I still
7:10
feel beautiful and I didn't feel like I
7:12
needed to have somebody tell me oh you'd
7:14
look younger if you color maybe would
7:16
but I feel beautiful as I am so it
7:18
really is the message of embracing who
7:20
you are and you know I did kind of go a
7:22
little bit more into the silver because
7:24
I really wanted those visuals because
7:25
there are all sorts of visuals for all
7:27
sorts of other things right I really
7:29
wanted to emphasize on that that silver
7:32
is a beauty option it's not just a color
7:34
option you're beautiful no matter what
7:37
it is it is I've had young girls young
7:39
women come up to me and say how do you
7:41
do that and I'm like well I'm old um and
7:45
it's natural and the idea that women can
7:49
do this is so empowering Robin how do
7:52
you want to be remembered um you know
7:55
it's funny because I don't necessarily
7:56
think it's important for me to be
7:57
remembered as much as is that message
7:59
I'm hoping to share which is to you know
8:01
embrace yourself celebrate other
8:03
especially other women and be inspired
8:06
and I think that's the I think that's
8:07
the key thing I really want people to
8:08
remember is that every woman has a story
8:11
every at at every age we have a story
8:13
but there is as my friend says Alexis
8:16
good friend of mine says wisdom is
8:18
beautiful and I think somewhere along
8:20
the lines sometimes we forget about that
8:21
so I love that key thing for my friend
8:24
wisdom is beautiful so wisdom is
8:27
beautiful uh if you are interested in

8:47
you what's next what are you gonna do
8:50
next ah my gosh I I really want to do
8:54
more traveling and bringing um this
8:57
message to worldwide audiences in person
9:00
right really like grouping women
9:02
together where they're they're in a room
9:03
with other women that are embracing what
9:05
they're W to do and you can see that you
9:07
can do it and that you're never alone
9:10
well I think you are the perfect person
