1:13
love that title we're going to talk with
1:14
our guest in just a second about that
1:16
title but you are tuning in to the super
1:18
boomer lifestyle show and our guest
1:20
today is Mary Frischmann and she is a
1:23
pro age advocate and creator of a very
1:26
immensely popular instapage as instagram
1:29
for those of you who don't do Instagram
1:31
into Page and I'm going to put her her
1:33
Instagram up later but it's called the
1:35
pro aged woman and this is an amazing
1:39
group and it's actually how I met her I
1:42
was stalking her a little bit that's got
1:45
a huge following on Instagram and I
1:47
wanted to be in her backyard and I
1:49
invited her to join me and our backyard
1:51
and she's created this amazing community
1:53
of like-minded women to support uplift
1:56
and encourage each other to continue to
1:58
strive toward our very best selves and
2:00
she's joining us today so without
2:02
further ado we welcome Mary
2:05
the show hello how are you today hey
2:07
Karen thanks for having me I'm so happy
2:10
to be here well I am so delighted that
2:13
you're here I so resonate with your
2:16
message and you know I always like to
2:18
start the show with this question how do
2:20
you describe a super boomer and the way
2:23
I describe super boomers is that were
2:25
fearless and we don't define ourselves
2:28
by age we define ourselves by how we
2:30
show up so how would you describe a
2:35
super boomer to me a Super Bowl or pro
2:38
age or is somebody who starts at a
2:43
certain point and changes their life
2:46
with positivity so what I say now is we
2:50
all have issues at any stage of life we
2:54
have issues and as we get older we can
2:57
have even more issues but it's what we
2:59
do with those issues and from those
3:01
issues that make the difference
3:03
so I think a super boomer is somebody
3:07
who takes those challenges and moves
3:09
forward and find strategies to get past
3:12
those and it's not easy it's a difficult
3:16
task but it's worth it I know l-3 yeah
3:20
so that's my whole way of thinking about
3:23
that cousin Joey Garrity says hi sisters
3:26
hey Joey
3:29
I'm gonna okay so let's just jump right
3:33
in you coined this phrase the new age of
3:36
aging what does that mean exactly how
3:38
would you describe that that means that
3:40
I think there's a certain group of us
3:43
and I think of it as let's say 50 to 70
3:48
that that grouping and we're not ready
3:53
to just lay low and let things happen
3:56
around us we want to take action and be
3:59
a part of the world we want to stay
4:00
relevant visible and stay interested in
4:04
in life and I as we were talking about a
4:09
little while though I don't see why not
4:11
you know Wendy knows they always today
4:14
why not you know it's not there when
4:17
when
4:18
I like to say not just why not but just
4:20
watch me and exactly I like that you
4:23
just watch me well surprise you you know
4:29
there's a lot of people but you know I
4:33
really don't understand that viewpoint
4:36
anymore you know because we we are
4:39
relevant we have so much to offer and
4:42
take our stake in this in this world you
4:45
know and I don't know I think I've just
4:49
started to blossom honestly isn't that I
4:52
and I so totally resonate with what
4:54
you're saying I feel like I blossom too
4:56
and I blossomed specifically when I let
4:59
my hair go and do this and I showed up
5:01
in a much more vulnerable space and you
5:03
and I have spoke about that about the
5:05
whole idea of being vulnerable and how
5:06
that really became a game changer and
5:08
you said sort of the same thing yes well
5:11
vulnerable for me because it's sort of
5:15
how this all began for me I had some
5:18
health issues about two and a half years
5:21
ago and from there honestly I remember
5:26
this perfectly I was laying in bed
5:28
feeling a little down thinking why did
5:31
this happen you know that that why did
5:34
this happen to me and I said you know
5:36
what it had happened for a reason
5:38
I have to turn this around and that day
5:42
I picked up Instagram and I really
5:44
didn't know much about it Wow Wow
5:48
how many hundred you have thousands of
5:52
followers you might need me you have
5:54
thousands so yes one 18,000 and I really
5:59
don't even know what happened I struck a
6:03
chord I mean I think with women and
6:08
around the world actually because they
6:10
have a lot of friends and followers now
6:12
from Australia and London and England
6:15
and I just think that it was timing
6:18
I think women were feeling this they
6:22
were looking for a space to connect
6:25
because it can be a very isolating
6:27
feeling that that that's what I think I
6:31
think so too and I think that sometimes
6:33
women don't know how to behave with each
6:35
other sometimes women don't support
6:37
women and that's a topic that we talk
6:40
about often on this show is that when
6:42
women finally understand that it's a
6:44
really great thing to collaborate with
6:46
other women because it only makes us
6:47
more and more and more and more able to
6:51
do what we are put on this earth to do
6:54
so I applaud you I talk about that also
6:58
I talked about in not being judgmental
7:01
towards other women I mean where did
7:05
that come from you know like we if we
7:08
only knew to join together all those
7:10
years ago you know can you imagine where
7:13
we would all be also so my whole thing
7:16
is let's talk let's yeah let's add open
7:20
let's discuss everything that we want to
7:25
discuss we need to disguise and each
7:27
other and stop judging each other let
7:31
your hair grow go gray I really applaud
7:34
that I'm not up to that yet it's not
7:38
only because I don't like it it's just
7:40
because I sort of like being blonde you
7:43
know and I've been through exactly and
7:45
you know what Mary I think I think you
7:47
know my message has always been that has
7:49
not been you know because I'm white or
7:51
I'm gray you all should color your hair
7:54
gray no the message is from my
7:56
perspective is that you should show up
7:58
the way you want to show up not because
8:00
somebody else just arbitrarily decided
8:03
you can't have that color here you can't
8:05
wear these clothes you can't wear heels
8:06
you should wear a different makeup
8:08
Oh Ellen says mary has a great story of
8:12
how this community came together thank
8:15
you for coming on you're participating
8:17
we really appreciate that so great I
8:20
know her personally she's great oh
8:22
that's that awesome you talk about Pro
8:24
Age mm-hmm so back to you Pro age means
8:29
aging with positivity Pro age means not
8:33
laying back and watching the world go by
8:37
Pro Paige is taking action that's Pro
8:42
age so in that whole realm
8:45
is the idea of women getting together
8:49
I've always loved women supporting each
8:52
other and I think even at this stage
8:56
it's such an important lesson to learn
8:58
and to just be there for each other
9:02
I mean it's not really hard it's just be
9:04
there for each other yes it's that easy
9:08
it really is that easy not easy you know
9:11
it's our mindset and that's what I'm
9:13
finding so much about all of this it's a
9:16
mindset it's a mindset women should be
9:18
competitive with each other it's a
9:20
mindset that women should judge each
9:22
other I mean where did that all come
9:24
from it's the anti don't know I have no
9:28
idea where it came from by the way guys
9:30
if you're just tuning in right now we're
9:31
talking to Mary freshmen she is the a
9:33
pro age advocate she is all about the
9:37
new age and aging and we're delighted to
9:39
have you on the show right now and one
9:42
of the things that really intrigues me
9:44
is that you are a pro age advocate and
9:46
this morning I did a rerun of one of my
9:48
shows that I did with Cindy Joseph about
9:50
a year ago and she you know she'd
9:53
started the hope Pro Age revolution she
9:56
does amazing woman and she passed away
9:58
soon after that interview but she had an
10:00
impact on my life and interestingly
10:02
enough you said you shared with me a
10:04
very similar thing
10:05
oh absolutely she was the first one I
10:07
saw ha in fact I used her products which
10:10
I liked very much but she was for you
10:12
too but she was the first one that like
10:15
really I was in tuned to and something
10:17
caught my eye on her site I really felt
10:21
her and I felt that she wanted to create
10:24
a space for women to you know be joined
10:27
together and I think honestly that's my
10:30
whole bottom line is you know you
10:32
mentioned about you know where it all
10:34
began and it also began my page began in
10:38
a funny way it was all about fashion but
10:41
it wasn't fashion it was about the idea
10:44
that we could wear whatever the hell we
10:46
want to wear and nobody should say you
10:49
know that we shouldn't be wearing that
10:51
because we're of 67 or 65 or 55 I mean
10:55
where does that
10:57
if we're comfortable and we feel it
10:59
looks great on us I mean we should be
11:01
able to wear it I agree and go out in
11:04
your Michael Kors women's sunglasses by
11:07
the way you can get those in the super
11:08
boomer lifestyle if you want to walk out
11:11
in your your shades and and do the
11:13
Hollywood thing or just at the Sun thing
11:15
you should be able to do whatever you
11:18
want because it's not an age thing it
11:21
sounds so simple you know and you know
11:23
and yet you know I live in my activewear
11:26
usually because you know in the city
11:28
that's how a lot of us are but that's my
11:31
lifestyle so even my friends would say
11:34
to me years ago you know you never wear
11:36
jeans why don't you change I said I
11:38
don't feel like changing this is it this
11:41
is I want to wear and that's it but you
11:44
have to stay strong you know you get
11:47
inside yourself and you have to be true
11:49
to yourself you do opt in look who just
11:52
popped it anything joining us I just
11:57
wanted to make sure you saw her thank
12:00
you and Wendy and I had a great
12:03
discussion about this and she's really
12:05
into it as well and there's a great show
12:07
I saw the video thank you and and yes
12:11
Lori was in that one also we had a fun
12:14
time but I just honestly I can't I can't
12:18
really focus on this enough that if we
12:21
were to all band together and and join
12:26
together and lift each other and support
12:30
each other you know and encourage each
12:32
other and and who knows where we could
12:36
be
12:36
I mean look look where this has
12:38
propelled me I mean I didn't ever
12:42
anything like this you know and and one
12:45
thing I've been thinking about lately
12:47
and you know the interesting for you to
12:51
hear is that I want to take it off the
12:53
page into real life yes off you want to
12:57
take online offline absolutely yes I
13:01
want to bring this into the real world
13:04
because it stays on Instagram and that's
13:06
great and
13:08
now it has been and I'm doing these
13:09
events you know at this community space
13:12
for women and called the wing and you
13:14
know hello yes did you just start okay
13:20
okay
13:21
so actually the people at the wing
13:24
actually approached me and they have a
13:26
lot of young members yeah and they
13:29
wanted some intergenerational work to be
13:33
done and they also wanted to come out
13:35
and have women 40 plus join their today
13:39
because I would even walk in I'd say
13:41
hello young you know I wish we had but
13:45
where are my people so they asked me to
13:55
do a breakfast and I did and I had 20
13:57
women that was what I was allowed and we
14:00
had the best conversations and we could
14:03
have stayed there all day and had
14:06
conversations about it was fantastic
14:09
about all professional or whatever they
14:12
were into and we just really joined
14:15
together we didn't know each other and
14:16
it was so beautiful because Mary the
14:20
basic the time is now and I think that's
14:23
what we're seeing we are seeing people
14:24
come out of the woodwork looking for
14:26
influencers leaders like you like me and
14:29
others there's so there are people that
14:31
are that are coming into the space that
14:33
are gonna make such a difference have
14:34
already made a difference yeah and are
14:36
gonna continue to make a difference
14:38
before the show I said to you we're
14:40
thinking of doing a cruise next year and
14:43
one of the things I said was we all
14:46
should be tweeting together and there's
14:49
a message out there so I'm putting the
14:50
message out back to you you talked about
14:52
living a life of possibility and choice
14:54
I hear the word choice a lot in your
14:56
languaging and in your your stories what
15:00
what why is that so important to you
15:02
well you know this is something you you
15:05
asked me you know what people really
15:08
don't know about me well one thing they
15:10
really don't know about means I had a
15:13
lot of anxiety in my early life and I
15:16
learned that a lot of that came from
15:22
my way of thinking and once I learned
15:24
how to choose and finish that way of
15:28
thinking I was gonna stay stuck there
15:31
you know I wouldn't be able to get out
15:34
of that and that once that clicked with
15:37
me and I learned how to switch to
15:40
different thoughts it made the world a
15:42
difference and I haven't had any anxiety
15:44
for years and years and years so I think
15:48
I have brought that over into today and
15:51
what I say is let's not you know lay
15:55
around and feel sorry for ourselves or
15:58
say we can't do this the cants the
16:00
shoulds shouldn't you know all that yep
16:02
yep once you learn and it is and it is a
16:05
learning process it honestly is and it's
16:08
not the simplest thing to do but if I
16:10
can encourage people women in my case to
16:15
do this I think it would make a world of
16:17
difference so in change your game
16:19
changer game changes so you're thinking
16:22
that and you're hearing that thought
16:25
that's negative if you could see that
16:28
thought thought like in the distance
16:30
here you know not like we're it's
16:32
encompassing your brain but I'm out here
16:35
and you say choice I choose not to think
16:39
that I choose not to be judgmental I
16:43
choose and you can say that then you do
16:47
have the opportunity to change way of
16:50
thinking you change their reality as
16:52
well I want to acknowledge that wendy
16:55
has a comment I'm not gonna put it up on
16:56
the screen and there's a reason for that
16:58
I will just say I want people to look in
17:00
the comments because it's actually a
17:01
very funny comment but if I put it up on
17:03
the screen on Facebook will shut me down
17:05
okay that word so but I wanted I wanted
17:10
to acknowledge Wendy I agree just do it
17:13
with another word in yes I love it
17:19
that's right to the point I love that
17:21
that's really what this is all about you
17:24
know is you know say yes and figure it
17:27
out later
17:28
just do it just step into your power I
17:31
you know we talked before this move
17:33
that we're all a part of some of us are
17:36
at the forefront of the movement we feel
17:39
empowered we feel like we have been
17:42
given I I think a gift I feel like I've
17:44
been given a gift and that I'm here for
17:47
a reason and I know that you feel the
17:50
same way that's exactly what happened
17:53
there after I was diagnosed with my
17:56
health issue I said okay if I this is
18:00
honestly what happened I said if I have
18:02
a number of years left whatever that is
18:06
I'd better do something with that
18:08
otherwise I'm gonna have been here and
18:11
then what and it would be over so I
18:14
really wanted to feel a value it really
18:17
pushed me forward to feel valuable in
18:20
the world and to womanhood yeah and I
18:24
think more than age for me it's about
18:27
womanhood hmm
18:30
yeah and being our best at any age that
18:34
we are including where I am right now
18:36
which is 67 years old so that's that's
18:40
how I feel it's it's also about just
18:44
pushing each other and pushing ourselves
18:47
to to be the best woman that we can to
18:52
be the best person that we can what it's
18:54
really saying now that something good
18:57
she said me neither I tried decided nope
19:00
wasn't working for me either so she was
19:02
responding to a comment that you had
19:03
made earlier yeah so I I think when you
19:10
do have a health scare it can be the
19:14
opportunity that's another choice yep
19:16
I could have laid there and let me tell
19:19
you there were days I really wanted to
19:21
and I hold a lot in so really it wasn't
19:24
sharing those feelings with everybody
19:26
but I said you know what I'm gonna take
19:30
that I know that's there but I'm going
19:33
to do something with that and honestly
19:36
it saved me because once I started my
19:39
Instagram page my mind was so into that
19:41
that I didn't have time to just think
19:44
about me and what I was going
19:46
so we've been mentioning your Instagram
19:48
page for a while now and I put the the
19:51
link actually it's not a link but I put
19:53
what it is up there we'll put the links
19:54
down in the comments as well but it's at
19:56
the pro age women with dots in between
19:59
and you you really do want to go follow
20:01
her your your images that you put up
20:03
because there are fashion images there
20:05
are lifestyle images I mean you really
20:08
cover the the gamut and you have so many
20:11
people that are so engaged with you at
20:14
this point so I really congratulate you
20:17
on that you have done an amazing an
20:19
amazing job you also have our website
20:21
the pro a woman calm or encouraging
20:25
people to go check out that as well
20:27
and what else what else do you want to
20:30
share with our audience in terms of how
20:33
we're going to show up now and how we
20:36
should continue to show up later
20:38
I think one thing that I do want to
20:42
mention is let's think about the
20:47
uplifting part of somebody else one of
20:49
my favorite things to do is is I
20:53
highlight women and they answer these
20:57
questions that I put out there and I
20:59
love their stories and I love their
21:01
thoughts about aging and it's
21:03
inspirational so I want to say it's not
21:07
only about who we are and what we are
21:11
doing it's about hearing and sharing I I
21:15
think that's such an important concept
21:18
that we have to be open especially in
21:21
this day and age on social media I mean
21:23
you know there's so much yeah I got
21:25
right and we forget that you know that
21:27
there's another way of looking at things
21:29
and that's what I want to bring it to
21:32
real life and so if if anybody that's
21:36
listening has a thought an idea you know
21:40
a concept that they want to talk about
21:43
with me to bring all this further I'm
21:46
very willing to listen and I'm so open
21:49
to that I love that
21:52
I love that I just feel like you have
21:57
such an important message to share we
22:00
have such an important message to share
22:03
and you talked about spotlighting
22:05
because I know you do that you have some
22:06
amazing women that you spot like Joey
22:08
Garrity comes from the Hollywood world
22:11
and her her whole marketing and the way
22:14
she markets things is about spotlighting
22:16
others and that had exactly that because
22:19
when you spotlight others it all come
22:22
it's the spotlight just shines brighter
22:24
on you and everyone else totally so I
22:27
just love surrounding myself with people
22:30
just like you on any levels minute
22:33
thought you'd like to share with the
22:34
audience because we're almost done
22:36
believe it or not well I think I think
22:39
the last thing that I said was honestly
22:42
if you have any thoughts any ideas of
22:44
how to bring this into real life and
22:47
take it off online and Instagram and
22:51
Facebook and all that and really just
22:53
make something happen in today's society
22:58
let's do I think is giving a challenge
23:07
right now let's do it let's band
23:09
together put in the comments down there
23:11
yes if you are in this with us because
23:14
we are going to we're going to make sure
23:17
that everyone hears our message so make
23:20
sure you put a meth comment in there
23:22
whether your life or on replay I want it
23:24
I want to hear you saying that I'm going
23:26
to actually drop you into the green room
23:28
in just a moment but I want to thank you
23:30
for for taking time to be on the show
23:32
you're in New York right now so it's
23:34
later in the day it's probably getting
23:36
ready for dinner time or something right
23:38
but I do appreciate you you taking your
23:41
time and joining me today I'm delighted
23:43
I intend on continuing this this
23:47
friendship that we have started and I
23:49
hope that our networks out there enjoy
23:51
our enjoying the show and enjoyed the
23:53
show as much as I did so thank you so
23:55
much for joining us and thank you Karen
23:57
I'll see you soon okay bye-bye
24:00
and and now it's time for the super
24:03
glimmer moment and I'm going to bring
24:05
up there right now and you know this is
24:07
the time that I highlight a comment or a
24:11
thought that we had that really struck a
24:14
chord with me and you know and basically
24:17
it was last thing that Mary said and
24:19
that it's time is now if the time is now
24:21
we need to band together and we need to
24:23
join together to make sure that our
24:26
voices are heard this is only the
24:28
beginning and so I really I really thank
24:31
Mary for putting that into words and I
24:32
thank her for what she's doing out there
24:34
go check out her instapage it is
24:38
beautiful it is absolutely beautiful and
24:40
while you're there go check out mine as
24:42
well at Karen Glasser and I want to
24:44
thank all of you who joined us today
24:45
because we know that you have a choice
24:47
as to where you spend your time and you
24:49
chose to spend it with Mary and I today
24:51
and we are thrilled that you chose that
24:54
so go out give somebody an awesome day
24:56
we'll see you next time on the next
24:57
