0:01
today we are diving deep into AI
0:05
artificial intelligence with Blaine
0:07
Bullis co-founder of cast magic welcome
0:10
to the show Karen thanks so much for
0:12
having me I am super excited to be here
0:14
I am probably even more super excited
0:17
than you I've been waiting for the show
0:18
for quite a while I'm a newbie at all of
0:21
this and loving what artificial
0:24
intelligence has to share with us and
0:26
what we can do with it but before we
0:28
jump into that let's talk about you so
0:31
what did you do before this and why did
0:34
you decide to jump into artificial
0:36
intelligence cool absolutely so I guess
0:39
my background is uh as a startup
0:43
entrepreneur I've been building startups
0:44
for the last decade now
0:46
um I guess I'm aging myself but uh every
0:49
time
0:52
after after I finished up school the
0:54
first thing I did was start a startup in
0:56
the restaurant technology space called
0:58
seated
0:59
um they grew a whole bunch their VC
1:01
backed uh raised you know North of 60
1:04
million dollars to build a really really
1:06
big you know restaurant Tech platform
1:09
um after that super fast scaling
1:12
business
1:13
um I decided to launch another business
1:15
uh in the e-commerce and data space and
1:19
this one unfortunately didn't get
1:21
traction didn't get product Market fit
1:23
so we ended up having to return capital
1:25
and shut it down and in that process but
1:27
part of what we were doing for that
1:29
second business was uh we had a podcast
1:32
and it was called DTC pod it was like
1:35
you know something that I was working on
1:38
um alongside another you know co-host
1:41
and founder that I I really respect and
1:44
work a lot with so we have this podcast
1:45
and
1:47
we talked with a bunch of e-commerce
1:49
Founders and one of the big things that
1:51
we need to do is create content right so
1:53
we've got the podcast we've got the show
1:55
we're talking to Great guests we're
1:56
having great conversations but then when
1:58
it actually comes to saying okay let's
2:01
get all the yeah now what
2:04
um it was a pain right
2:06
um before AI popped up
2:09
the way we would solve for this was
2:11
either a try to train up different you
2:14
know marketing Associates or va's or
2:16
anyone that could like help understand
2:17
and dissect the content transcribe it um
2:20
start creating other social posts out of
2:22
it write the show notes all that sort of
2:25
stuff I was doing a lot of it because I
2:26
just wanted to do my own content myself
2:28
right
2:31
and yeah and that was kind of the
2:32
inspiration we saw AI coming along and
2:34
we're kind of like let's build this tool
2:37
to solve our own problem and had a you
2:41
know my co-host one of his good friends
2:43
is a super talented developer was one of
2:46
the heads of platform at blockchain.com
2:48
like like way out of our league like in
2:50
terms of what we should be building with
2:52
for a side project like this but he was
2:55
excited about it I wanted to take some
2:57
contact and it was like yeah that sounds
2:59
like a great idea let's start building
3:01
and that was uh December 31st of last
3:05
year we had our first call wow yeah wow
3:08
I didn't realize that I didn't realize
3:10
there was a very short amount of time
3:11
we're only in August right now wow yes
3:13
so we had our first call in just on
3:16
December 31st we launched the product
3:19
um mid-march and we're now five months
3:22
in and have grown an absolute ton and
3:26
have a massive platform so it's it's
3:28
been pretty pretty wild ride well I
3:30
discovered you through through appsumo
3:32
anybody in technology anybody is an
3:35
internet marketer and loves to play with
3:37
this stuff they know about appsumo and
3:39
when you go to appsumo you hadn't you
3:41
had this up there for a short amount of
3:43
time and I grabbed it because I had
3:46
jumped in and again I'm a podcaster I'm
3:48
actually a video show Caster Vlog Caster
3:51
or whatever but um it's working smarter
3:54
right not harder and so after your show
3:56
as you just said what do you do how do
3:58
you create all of this content and
4:00
that's where cast magic comes into so
4:03
let's talk about what is artificial
4:06
intelligence what we're calling AI is
4:08
there a definition that you can maybe
4:10
explain to people that will make sense
4:12
yeah I think the easiest way to think of
4:14
it is it's just like really Advanced
4:17
software that has converged in all sorts
4:20
of ways so you've got
4:22
um you've got huge developments in the
4:25
language model side of things which is
4:27
where you're able to use something like
4:29
chat qpt which will just generate text
4:32
exactly how you would want it you've got
4:35
um image based tools that can now you
4:37
can write in I want you to create me an
4:39
image that looks like XYZ and it'll
4:41
actually create that image like
4:43
mid-turny
4:45
um so and you've got audio tools right
4:47
so things that can use AI to take
4:50
audio like when we're having a
4:53
conversation and turn that into text
4:55
you've got tools that can now take text
4:58
and turn it into speech so there's just
5:02
all different ways that AI is be is
5:05
being applied to different problems and
5:07
so I hear that and I get excited
5:10
I know that many people hear that and
5:13
say the sky is falling right they're
5:16
saying this is scary stuff I remember
5:18
back in the early 90s when the when the
5:21
web was just starting to roll up and and
5:22
you could you know do dial up I can
5:24
still hear that sound in my ear and
5:26
everyone then was saying oh my gosh this
5:29
guy is falling you know what is this
5:30
this is going to be the Rune and here we
5:32
are how many years later doing this so
5:35
let's talk about cast magic and I
5:38
thought and I said to you the best way
5:39
to show this and the best way to let
5:42
people know how fun this is is to
5:44
actually show how I used cast magic to
5:47
set up this show so I'm gonna go ahead
5:50
and share my screen
5:52
and um so what I did is I literally put
5:56
a recording in saying I was gonna do
5:58
this show with you and it created an
6:00
entire transcript which was not very
6:02
long it was only 34 seconds but then you
6:04
have a button that says AI content and
6:07
the reason this is so cool is that it
6:09
gives you everything from the titles you
6:12
can use YouTube keywords email
6:14
newsletter uh key topics and bullet
6:18
points YouTube tweets it keeps going now
6:20
the one that I used was this discussion
6:23
questions what were some good questions
6:25
to actually ask you and one of the
6:27
questions was and I'm going to ask you
6:28
this question right now do you think
6:30
that the use of artificial intelligence
6:32
in content creation is going to have
6:35
implications for the job market
6:38
yeah I I absolutely I absolutely do
6:41
think it will have applications I think
6:43
there's going to be certain sectors that
6:44
have a lot more risk to like potentially
6:47
lose jobs or migrate jobs than others uh
6:51
but in terms of the implications what I
6:53
really think it means I think it enables
6:55
like humans to basically do all the
6:59
things that they want it provides a
7:00
massive tool set and I think it really
7:02
advantages the solopreneur the you know
7:06
person who's involved with their own
7:08
business and maybe they don't have an
7:10
entire department that can work under
7:12
them but with AI you can use all these
7:15
different tools I mean even cast magic
7:16
we basically built out a tool to create
7:19
your entire content marketing team
7:22
um you know for a couple bucks a month
7:24
which is something that you would have
7:25
like before we were literally paying an
7:27
agency you know five or six thousand
7:29
dollars a month to try to come up with
7:31
all this content that now I'm able to
7:33
have cast magic create instantly and yes
7:35
are there jobs like yeah now I don't
7:37
have to pay the agency but I've also
7:39
seen agencies now say wait a minute now
7:41
we can use it we can serve more clients
7:42
we can provide better content we can
7:44
upgrade our service as well and I think
7:47
at the end of the day
7:48
humans are what humans want to pay for a
7:50
lot of the times is like they don't want
7:52
to do things so with AI like it's
7:55
obviously not hooked up to literally
7:56
everything that you do and there's
7:59
always a service layer where people can
8:01
come in and use AI as a tool to just say
8:03
hey I can help you get everything that
8:05
you want done done so like we become
8:07
yeah we're able to you know kind of tie
8:11
the dots together and Stitch together
8:12
the tools so I see it as a massive
8:14
breakthrough and an amazing tool to
8:17
um basically do all the legwork that no
8:19
one wanted to do in the first place and
8:21
then you know we can use our human
8:23
skills to do all the things that might
8:25
require a little bit of human touch and
8:27
and polish and you know from personal
8:30
experience
8:32
um I'm a content creator but my content
8:34
is created by me sitting in front of a
8:36
camera and interviewing people or going
8:38
on by myself I'm not a writer never have
8:41
been probably never will be and that's
8:42
not my Lane but
8:44
and I always had to hire people to take
8:46
my content and then write something out
8:48
of it but by using cast magic I'm now
8:50
able to go in and I can create a blog
8:52
post
8:53
um and it's my content so I think that I
8:56
would like to differentiate between
8:58
um maybe a chat GPT where you're simply
9:01
going in giving a prompt right and it
9:04
comes out with all this information not
9:06
all of it is correct
9:07
not all that's correct
9:09
um I had somebody a good friend of mine
9:11
who is very much in the um ethical
9:14
community and he put his name in and he
9:17
said who is who is he because he had
9:19
never heard of it and he's an 82 year
9:20
old man and he went in and everything
9:23
was correct except for a few things they
9:25
made him a pastor he was now a religious
9:27
leader and it was kind of crazy so I
9:31
think that what happens with AI and
9:33
these these programs that if you don't
9:35
go in and you don't edit what comes out
9:38
that's where you have problems and I
9:41
think that for those of us who are
9:43
content creators it's my content I would
9:45
never be using this for it to just out
9:48
of the air give me some content about I
9:50
do 55 plus Community I think that's
9:53
different right I mean there's a
9:54
different way to do this oh 100 and I
9:59
think you know our goal with cast magic
10:01
is to let people use AI to
10:04
kind of just grow the content that they
10:08
already have in their head and I think
10:09
one really important point is every
10:11
single person has their own vantage
10:13
point they have their own experiences
10:14
they have their own ways of thinking and
10:18
when you use that as the building blocks
10:21
of the content you're creating then it
10:22
becomes uniquely yours right and I think
10:24
you see so many different things like
10:26
even chat GPT right there's so many
10:28
tools that are you know can do AI
10:31
writing but the problem is they're
10:33
generic right but if you could take like
10:35
what if you could take a a library of
10:39
all your own audio and media and use
10:41
that as context for the content that you
10:43
were going to create so you know podcast
10:45
interviews that you've been on meetings
10:48
that you've recorded voice memos that
10:50
you've done and now we use that as
10:51
context to like like you're saying write
10:53
a blog post or write a social media post
10:55
right now it's going to have the essence
10:57
of you in that content and it's not just
11:00
going to be some generic post that you
11:01
have no relation to and that you
11:03
wouldn't want to post to your audience
11:04
so so you know that's what I see is a
11:07
really amazing way to personalize the
11:10
content that you're using and not just
11:11
have it you know not going to chat GPT
11:13
and say write me a blog post about this
11:15
topic well it's not going to know what
11:17
you think about it but it's not going to
11:18
be in your tonality it's not going to be
11:20
the words that you use because
11:21
artificial intelligence literally can
11:25
hear and see and read everything that
11:27
you do and it's in my tone and
11:29
everything that comes out almost
11:30
everything that has come out I've just
11:32
like sat there and astonishment I've
11:34
I've edited a couple of things like for
11:36
instance they spelled your name wrong
11:38
and I thought okay that's interesting
11:41
since it's your company but you know
11:43
they should have recognized that the
11:45
other thing that you added in here
11:46
though and I'm gonna actually go back to
11:48
this for a second and that is the in
11:51
addition to all the content that's here
11:52
you can do a custom prompt you can
11:54
modify it let's say you want it more
11:55
casual but you have the magic chat and I
11:57
look at this and I say this is sort of
11:58
like the chat GPT thing where you give
12:01
it a prompt based upon what you wanted
12:03
to give however it's also using your own
12:06
information so you have combined the
12:09
best of everything and have put it in
12:11
here now I know that you have something
12:13
that you can share as well I'm going to
12:15
put it up on the screen oh cool and
12:19
um why don't we talk about this yeah so
12:21
absolutely basically what you were
12:23
alluding to was we have the ability
12:25
um with magic chat again chat GPT you
12:28
would be using it and you're kind of
12:31
building your dialogue with chat CPT
12:33
you're telling it what you need you're
12:34
feeding it your information before it
12:36
can create information for you but what
12:38
the the benefit of something like house
12:40
magic is is you can upload
12:42
um you know your video you can upload
12:44
your podcast you can upload your media
12:46
file you can upload a YouTube link and
12:48
now it's like chat GPT already has all
12:51
that context it knows what's in there
12:52
and now you can start without having to
12:55
tell it oh I talked with this person oh
12:57
you know here's what we talked about
12:58
here are the key takeaways so you don't
13:00
have to build that context in you can
13:02
just start saying like immediately after
13:06
here's an example I uploaded this
13:08
podcast episode that we had done and all
13:11
I wrote was write a thank you note to
13:13
the guest right I don't need to specify
13:15
who the guest is I don't need to specify
13:17
what the topics were about I don't need
13:19
to specify anything and it's going to
13:21
know exactly who I am who they are and
13:24
the context is already done and if I
13:26
don't like that or I want to change I
13:28
can just hit this modify button and I
13:30
can do things I can make it longer I can
13:31
make it shorter I can make it more
13:33
casual more serious or I could modify it
13:36
however I want I could type in and say
13:37
make this more creative or make it like
13:39
I'm talking to a friend whatever
13:40
modification I want and and it'll do it
13:44
so
13:46
um you know that's that that's a little
13:47
bit about how you can use magic chat
13:49
again it's not just for thank you notes
13:51
anything that you would want to write
13:52
whether it's a blog post whether it's
13:55
anything you can just use that to create
13:56
your own content so for those folks who
13:59
are not in technology and they're you
14:02
know just everyday folks there are
14:04
people that are online how can they use
14:06
artificial intelligence I mean I know
14:08
right off the bat if you have Gmail it
14:10
literally if you start to type an email
14:13
to someone it will do predictive text
14:15
which for those of you who are you know
14:18
saying I don't want to do AI you
14:20
literally are doing AI when you go oh
14:22
that's good I don't have to type it
14:24
anymore right what other ways can
14:26
artificial intelligence be used in
14:28
day-to-day life
14:29
well there's so many ways
14:31
um like like some of the ways I had
14:34
alluded to before you're going to see
14:36
these different Tools in every aspect of
14:39
your life that you touch from things
14:41
like uh you know like we said from image
14:43
generation the images that you see to
14:46
the words that you read from like other
14:48
people publishing or websites publishing
14:50
even today or yesterday Amazon just
14:53
released basically
14:55
um a section to their their landing
14:58
pages where when you land on a product
15:00
it'll basically summarize using AI what
15:02
all the customers say so you don't have
15:04
to read all the reviews you can get the
15:06
camera just you know so there there's so
15:09
many ways that AI is going to be applied
15:11
I think a lot of them are going to be
15:13
all these like medial data sort of tasks
15:16
that you know imagine it was Amazon and
15:18
before AI they would probably had they
15:21
couldn't staff a writer to go write
15:23
every single product page that they have
15:25
they couldn't staff someone to be like
15:27
oh go summarize what the customers have
15:29
to say about all all their reviews like
15:31
that would be unscalable but now they
15:33
can
15:34
um so there's there's a million
15:36
different ways and I think you know
15:38
it cuts both ways though I think we're
15:40
going to see a whole bunch of
15:42
um
15:43
you know like people need to also
15:45
prepare themselves for what that means
15:47
because just as easy it is to create
15:49
content it it can be used as a weapon
15:52
right like it they're with these
15:54
Technologies if you can synthesize voice
15:56
you can take voice duplicate it write a
15:59
script and tell the script to say okay
16:01
now you know ask for Bank details using
16:04
my name and my voice and place a phone
16:06
call like that becomes scary so exactly
16:10
and I mean we've got a whole you know
16:12
election Series in cycle coming up and I
16:14
know that there's been a lot of
16:15
conversation of
16:17
when things really start to get going
16:20
with commercials and with all things
16:23
like that how are we going to know
16:25
if it's an artificially generated
16:29
Karen versus
16:31
Karen
16:33
well I think for now it'll be like a
16:36
little bit obvious you'll be able to see
16:38
but I'd imagine in a year or two three
16:40
years like it'll get to the point where
16:42
it's indiscernible
16:43
um that's where other technologies will
16:45
probably have to come in and help
16:47
provide like you know identity
16:49
verification and all that sort of stuff
16:51
so people know what is real and what is
16:53
not so I think that's something that you
16:55
know we're going to be seeing in the
16:57
next couple years fortunately we haven't
16:59
seen it yet to the point where it can't
17:02
trick the human eye but like with the
17:04
pace that everything is advancing we're
17:06
going to be there pretty pretty soon
17:09
so what's new with cast magic what might
17:13
be coming out in the future
17:15
well we've got a lot
17:18
um on the way one thing that we're
17:20
building or is actually pretty much live
17:22
and ready to go and I can just show
17:24
share it with you is we do have an IOS
17:26
app
17:27
um I'm gonna put you on the big screen
17:29
okay so we we've got an IOS app which is
17:31
really cool so basically all you can do
17:33
is you tap the button to record it
17:36
starts recording you and you can just
17:37
talk into your device and record
17:40
everything that you're saying and that
17:42
will be the basis of content that gets
17:44
like sent directly into cast magic so
17:46
why something like this is really
17:48
exciting is it takes cast magic with you
17:50
on the go and now you can use it to
17:52
create content you know imagine you're
17:54
in your car and you've got some thoughts
17:56
and you just want to kind of spew them
17:57
out and use that to create content you
18:00
can do that imagine
18:02
um you're having a coffee meeting with
18:04
someone and you want to remember all the
18:06
topics that you talked about you can do
18:07
that so it really makes cast magic
18:09
portable uh and you can take it with you
18:12
which is something we're really excited
18:13
about another thing thing that uh Karen
18:17
maybe I can share my screen and show you
18:18
that uh something that we're working on
18:21
is
18:22
well that we've already released is cast
18:24
magic isn't just about podcasts or voice
18:27
memos or anything like that you're able
18:29
to set up different spaces that match
18:32
your use case so for example this this
18:35
space that we're working in it works
18:37
perfectly for a podcast but if for
18:39
example I want to have a meeting space
18:43
you'll see here I just clicked on this
18:45
this space which is called my meetings I
18:47
can upload my meetings from Zoom or from
18:50
uh Google drive or a recording of my
18:53
meeting and then it's going to do
18:54
everything that cost magic does in terms
18:56
of creating content and all the
18:58
customizability but it's going to do it
18:59
for your meetings right so I could go in
19:01
and see you know all the things that we
19:04
talked about in the meeting the themes
19:06
of the meeting the topics that we
19:07
covered the action items the quotable
19:10
highlights from the meeting the agenda
19:12
points a follow-up email that's already
19:14
written from the meeting so there's all
19:16
this content that we're able to now do
19:18
across different
19:20
um you know verticals which is really
19:22
exciting and then where that goes from
19:24
here is what we're able to build is kind
19:26
of this you know voice knowledge base if
19:30
you will where anytime you want to
19:32
create content you could say oh you know
19:35
sample like use this podcast that I was
19:38
recorded as context use this voice memo
19:41
and use uh you know this meeting that I
19:44
had done use these three things as
19:47
sources and help me build a course on
19:51
something that I'm creating or write a
19:53
book about what I'm doing so basically
19:55
using your own uh primary sources or
19:57
secondary sources and using those to
20:00
create uh endless amounts of content so
20:02
these are all really exciting things
20:03
that we have uh in the pipeline really
20:06
really exciting things you know a couple
20:08
of questions that were asked of me when
20:10
I put this event up Was Fear was you
20:13
know I I'm not sure I want to do
20:16
artificial intelligence and again we're
20:19
you're saying again it's our content
20:22
that is being regurgitated for lack of a
20:25
better word this is this is different
20:27
than than different platforms because it
20:29
is our content that's being put in so
20:31
for those of you who are tuning in right
20:33
now we're talking to Blaine bolus from
20:34
he's the co-founder of cast magic if you
20:37
have a question go ahead and put it in
20:39
the chat and I'll put it up on the
20:40
screen and Blaine will answer it
20:43
hopefully uh we're gonna answer it
20:46
um so the other thing that I know that
20:47
cast magic has is you have as you said
20:49
the different folders and the different
20:51
things so I happen to do five different
20:53
shows so in mine I I have and I'm gonna
20:56
unshare you for a second and I'm gonna
20:58
put this in here and you can see that I
21:00
have life Uncorked at the top the next
21:02
chapter bookstore Greenberg Financial
21:04
mail media Karen Glasser live and no
21:07
matter where I you know jump into it's
21:10
going to show me the things that I
21:12
uploaded into that particular you know
21:15
uh bucket I think what do you thinking
21:19
we call them spaces but I like buckets
21:22
too
21:23
yeah I and it's great it really is great
21:26
um all right so for those of you are
21:29
saying okay I'm not so fearful right now
21:31
I I think maybe I want to try this out
21:34
let me get rid of this for a second sure
21:36
we're gonna give people a way to go pick
21:39
it up and I'm gonna put myself right
21:40
back into the show I'm all about
21:42
technology so I'm gonna put a QR code up
21:44
because I can
21:46
and all you have to do is take your
21:48
phone out
21:49
scan that QR code and it's going to take
21:52
you over to cast magic and you can try
21:56
it out there is a free
21:59
program right you can try out do a
22:01
couple of audios and I know that you're
22:03
going to want to hook into this because
22:05
once you do it and you realize how
22:08
simple it is you're going to want to do
22:09
it this is great for coaches this is
22:12
great for authors this is especially for
22:15
authors
22:16
um to see what maybe their thoughts
22:17
might look you know slightly different
22:19
from an artificial intelligent
22:21
perspective what other things
22:23
um jobs we have coaches we have
22:25
um real estate uh individuals we have uh
22:30
business owners any almost anything
22:33
can be used right through this yeah and
22:36
that's what we're really excited about
22:37
we've seen endless use cases uh not just
22:40
podcasters but we've seen anyone who has
22:42
a business they're having meetings on
22:44
Zoom they're creating content they're
22:47
posting things on social media they're
22:49
watching YouTube videos they're up maybe
22:51
they're uploading videos to YouTube so
22:53
like it's anyone who even thinks about
22:56
creating content and Publishing it at
22:58
any scale it's it's perfect and even for
23:01
the people who aren't maybe necessarily
23:03
publishing their content maybe they just
23:05
want to be able to analyze it understand
23:07
it synthesize ideas across different
23:09
pieces of content
23:11
um and draft their own you know things
23:14
they can use that so it's it's like
23:17
that's why I like to think of it as just
23:19
like the best voice to content workspace
23:22
in the world and we're really excited to
23:25
just keep building it really
23:27
well I'm thrilled and I want to thank
23:28
you for taking time out of your busy day
23:30
because I know you are busy you're you
23:32
know as you say you do startups and
23:33
you're doing this and you are launching
23:35
all sorts of things so I want to thank
23:36
you for that if you want to check out
23:38
cast magic and just go directly to the
23:40
link you can go to castmagic.io or look
23:43
in the chat I put a link in there as
23:44
well click on it
23:46
um any last thoughts
23:48
I mean no real last thoughts other than
23:52
I think everyone should really Embrace
23:54
AI I think it's something that you know
23:57
there's so many different tools popping
23:59
up and I just encourage everyone to just
24:00
try different things and get just try it
24:03
out right because I don't think
24:06
we're at a point where if you just
24:08
pretend it's not gonna it's gonna not
24:10
gonna happen it's gonna go away like the
24:12
cat's out of the bag this is part of the
24:14
world that we're living in and I think
24:16
it does incredible incredible things uh
24:19
it'll make your life so much easier if
24:21
you use it and apply it in the right way
24:22
and that's literally for everyone like
24:24
exactly exactly
24:26
um for those in my network who are
24:28
saying I'm too old to do this no you're
24:30
not you're not too old to do this I'm
24:32
older
24:34
um and I'm doing it reach out to me I'll
24:37
give you some tricks and tips show you
24:39
how to use cast magic
24:41
um again thank you so much you guys have
24:43
a choice as to where you spent your time
24:44

24:47
eternally grateful go out give somebody
