1:18
today we're going to be asking a
1:20
question what are you hiding behind the
1:22
masks that you wear and who better than
1:25
to bring back a good friend the
1:27
authenticity guru of all-time cat
1:30
Willeford she is a pioneer in the field
1:33
of coaching and a transformational self
1:36
development coach speaker and author she
1:39
received one of the first six
1:40
certifications bestowed by the
1:43
prestigious coach's Training Institute
1:45
she has appeared as a guest expert on
1:47
the Maury Povich Show been featured in
1:49
the Los Angeles Times and coach live on
1:52
LA's ABC talk radio so without further
1:56
ado I'd like to bring in Kat Willeford
1:59
good afternoon how are you today I'm
2:03
great it's so great to be here with you
2:04
Kara and I just love our conversations I
2:07
do too it's always fun to see and hear
2:13
our members are saying what the what the
2:15
group is saying and particularly because
2:18
we're talking about mass today and last
2:20
time you were on that was a huge huge
2:23
topic and the conversation just kept
2:25
going and kept going which is one of the
2:27
reasons I wanted you to come back but
2:28
before we jump into that I'd like to ask
2:30
you what is your little white lie so a
2:35
couple of days ago I had a friend up
2:39
some-some someone you know Stacy
2:41
Bloodworth came to visit and we went to
2:43
lunch and went for a walk on the beach
2:45
and I wound up scorched I you can
2:47
probably still see the sunburn on me and
2:50
so my little white lie and for some
2:52
reason I thought like I could get away
2:54
with it I don't know I'm a fair skinned
2:56
girl what was I thinking so the little
2:57
white lie what I've discovered you know
3:00
when we're in the personal development
3:01
world we don't think the box sides of
3:04
the boxes apply to us because we're
3:06
we're up ending boxes left and right for
3:09
ourselves and our clients so there are
3:12
still laws of physics and rules of the
3:16
universe that we must follow so my
3:18
little white lie to myself has been I
3:20
don't have to I'm above that which of
3:23
course is yes because now I've got water
3:25
blisters on my back going
3:28
oh no and it happens to all of us we
3:31
just think well we can do it it's not
3:32
the rules are for everybody else but us
3:34
right that's right absolutely so we're
3:37
asking the question about mass and what
3:40
are those mass saying that we're
3:41
actually hiding behind so the first
3:42
thing I want to ask you is actually when
3:44
we talk about mass what are we actually
3:47
saying what does that mean yeah you know
3:50
that's a great question because of a lot
3:53
of people I love that your dogs are here
3:55
they're there they're there into this
3:57
Bay they want to know right yeah so I
4:01
came to the idea that it's the masks
4:05
that were hiding behind because they
4:06
came from the world of theatre and so
4:08
when you think about how original
4:11
theatre was performed people literally
4:12
wore masks the thespians wore masks
4:16
because a lot of times men were doing
4:17
the women's roles because women had even
4:19
less potential been in some societies so
4:23
they're literally things we put on
4:26
and in this metaphor that I'm using it
4:29
is the way we show ourselves pretty
4:33
boxed in you know we're talk about the
4:34
box earlier so those rules that we're
4:37
living by that aren't ours the stories
4:39
that we're living by that aren't ours so
4:41
they're become what we show to the world
4:43
rather than who we really are and we
4:46
hide behind them because we're smart our
4:49
psyche has developed them to protect us
4:52
so we're not bad or wrong for having
4:55
masks it's just a problem when we forget
4:58
to take them off what that is such a
5:00
great answer and so I guess the next
5:03
question that I want to ask you so how
5:05
do we identify our mass and as you're
5:07
talking I'm gonna actually put my dogs
5:08
out of the room oh they don't get to
5:13
join to the conversation so I think the
5:18
best way to actually uncover the masks
5:22
and to identify where they're coming
5:25
from is to look at our timeline you know
5:27
there's a lot of information out there
5:29
about looking at our timeline and where
5:31
things originate from but when you
5:33
decide like for me my big one biggest
5:35
one has been the chief operating officer
5:37
of control and she loves to take charge
5:40
take over and this sent the other thing
5:42
and when I take a step back and look
5:44
cool so what is she protecting and
5:48
caring we can't hear you yes I had
5:50
myself on mute while others were barking
5:51
I'm back I'm bad guys I'm back right we
5:55
take a step back it's like what is it
5:57
I'm protecting you know and I came to
5:59
like fear of disappointment and a fear
6:01
of not being in control and then when
6:03
you start to look at your timeline you
6:05
can see where those instances were in
6:08
childhood early adulthood teenager where
6:11
you didn't feel in charge for the and
6:14
I'm talk about this specific mass of
6:15
course I think I wear the same mask as
6:18
you died huh and I call myself a control
6:21
freak and it's that kind of a negative
6:23
way to actually put it I kind of like
6:25
the way you put it better but for me it
6:27
really is a matter of feeling so
6:29
uncomfortable in my own skin if I am not
6:33
feeling I'm in control of the actual
6:36
situation to the point that I actually
6:37
do the driving in my household because I
6:40
people sitting in a passenger sheep rep
6:42
seat rather than driving myself you guys
6:45
that are listening right now what kind
6:47
of mass are you wearing and what are you
6:49
hiding code put it in the comments I'd
6:51
love to put some of them up on the
6:52
screen so we're going to continue the
6:55
conversation so what do you say do you
6:56
suggest or what do you suggest for
6:58
people that are going to start
6:59
identifying those mess what do they do
7:02
once they identify it yeah so I you know
7:05
for some of you it might not be the
7:07
chief operating officer of control it
7:09
might be something more like the over
7:11
giver slash pleaser I've worn that one
7:14
goodness you know or we might be wearing
7:16
the mask I call her smarty pants like
7:19
I'm gonna be the smartest one in the
7:21
room and I'm gonna prove it to everybody
7:22
and I'm gonna keep raising my Union and
7:24
I'm gonna be raising my there's all
7:28
kinds of masks that we wear out there
7:31
and I think the key to taking them off
7:34
is to actually identify what is the fear
7:38
because they're really what I discovered
7:40
is masks are covering three things the
7:42
hiddens the his things are our pain we
7:46
want to hide our pain and sometimes we
7:50
don't even want to feel it so we
7:51
certainly don't want other people to see
7:52
it other times it's because this fear of
7:56
being out of control so we try to
7:59
control the other thing I think we're
8:02
really hiding behind there is our
8:05
fragile miss our bone oh my gosh
8:09
thank you yeah I totally agree totally
8:13
agree with that Dianna said that I'm
8:16
always happy inside when I have been
8:17
living to have others to help others be
8:20
happy I think that's what you miss
8:21
dianna and a drew says she's a pleaser
8:25
big time good time oh my gosh I love
8:29
that understand that one so how do
8:35
people connect with you and also I would
8:38
love for you to let people know about
8:40
this event that you're doing in
8:42
September and by the way guys I'm going
8:44
to be going so Kat tell everybody about
8:46
this event you're going to be doing and
8:48
I'm hoping that some of our viewers will
8:50
actually come and join us
8:52
any cat in person if you haven't already
8:54
and learn about the masks the masks and
8:58
taking them off yeah I'm so excited this
9:02
is I haven't gotten to do a retreat for
9:04
a long time in my business and I'm so
9:06
excited for the first time in ten years
9:07
to get to do one and this is really
9:09
we're gonna do a deep dive it's two days
9:11
long and it's but it's gentle we're a
9:14
gentle deep dive full of love and
9:16
compassion we're gonna be creative
9:18
together we're gonna have some body
9:21
movement going on to just really get any
9:23
bodies and be who we are and where we
9:26
are but it's really to take off that big
9:29
mask so it's okay I want to interject
9:31
right there because I want to understand
9:33
that I actually had a conversation with
9:36
you that I was feeling vulnerable about
9:37
doing this yeah I really I'm stepping
9:40
out of my comfort zone in a huge way so
9:42
I I want you to be listening to what Kat
9:47
says and even if it feels uncomfortable
9:49
being comfortable with me as Joey said
9:52
sometimes you have to be uncomfortable
9:54
to take the next step so coach is right
9:56
thank you and you know one of my tag
9:59
lines is your comfort zones can kill you
10:04
but being uncomfortable will not so if
10:08
you're in that rut like sometimes those
10:10
masks can be really big comfort zones
10:12
I'm really comfortable being the chief
10:14
operating officer of control she knows
10:16
how to get stuff done but she also is
10:19
very lonely and doesn't let other people
10:21
help her she can receive or ask for help
10:23
which is a problem when you're a
10:24
business owner big time problem or if
10:28
you're working with a team you got to
10:29
work with a team so anyway I've got this
10:32
retreat coming up and I want to offer
10:35
because we had this show scheduled
10:37
earlier in the week and we had a tech
10:39
glitch so I want to be able to offer my
10:41
earlybird rate even though it's over
10:43
right now I want to be able to offer it
10:46
to anyone who's interested I'd love to
10:47
have a conversation with you shoot me a
10:49
flare on messenger here on Facebook Kat
10:52
Willeford c80 that I ll IFOR D and I
10:57
would love to have a conversation with
10:59
you individually to make sure that this
11:01
is something for you and talk to you
11:03
about those fears that are going to come
11:04
up because you know what
11:05
I even have them I'm confronting my
11:08
masks left and right every single day in
11:12
putting this out there in the world it's
11:14
scary and I'm doing it anyway because I
11:16
am so passionate and committed that
11:19
women live into the story that they want
11:22
to live into and stop living in the past
11:24
stories because those are going to keep
11:26
the railing US and not letting us
11:28
experience what we want to experience in
11:30
our life and you deserve that we only
11:34
amen absolutely I put your email up
11:38
there so that people can actually get to
11:41
you by putting your website up as well
11:43
Kat Willeford comm and also I encourage
11:46
you to go check out Kats Facebook group
11:49
The Sisterhood circle Advantage and join
11:52
in we're all sisters because that's what
11:54
we are and we're tribe and tribes gather
11:57
around each other and support each other
11:59
and of course if you want to follow Kat
12:01
on Twitter you can go to at kat
12:03
Willeford calm any last words that you
12:06
would like to share with our group
12:08
people always make a body you know what
12:10
I don't know do you have the address for
12:11
the retreat website well I don't but if
12:16
you tell me what it is I can put it in
12:17
WWF entity Advantage retreat I think
12:27
with a question mark so I'll type up
12:30
I'll share it in the comments below when
12:32
we're done I'll share it in the comments
12:33
below that's what I'll do
12:36
and last yes you know what here's my
12:41
this is from my heart you deserve to
12:46
live free and a choice and I lived for
12:51
so long under the tyranny of my mask of
12:54
control I was joyless for so long and I
12:59
but no one would have known it and what
13:01
that did was set up that internal
13:04
naysayer called the fraud police and I
13:07
was scared to death that as soon as I
13:09
became me people would haul me to jail
13:11
like the fraud police were going to come
13:14
and haul me to jail and it's risky and
13:18
feels risky and it feels scary when you
13:21
first start to allow that authenticity
13:24
I can't me just share what I share with
13:26
you early nothing about what I did today
13:29
it's like I I'm 53 and I'm in this place
13:34
of you know where I never thought it
13:36
would be which is dating in midlife and
13:38
I say dating him in life and I'm not
13:39
even dating like I want to be waiting
13:41
and I met someone this morning when
13:47
picking up my car from caliber collision
13:50
and he was so kind as there was
13:53
something in his eyes and there was
13:55
something in his smile and they actually
13:57
when I got home I called the adjuster it
14:00
was a woman Sandra Cruz she's amazing
14:02
and I just said hey is he single and she
14:06
said I never do this but I'm doing it
14:08
and she said oh my god he is single and
14:11
okay we have to remember I have no idea
14:14
he's gonna call and at this point it's
14:16
not even about that it's that I the
14:18
universe is kept saying you gotta meet
14:20
me girlfriend you've got to meet me and
14:22
so I took that risk and it feels so
14:24
freeing and it feels it felt terrifying
14:27
and it felt freeing and that's what I
14:30
want all of us I want us to be breaking
14:32
down the love internal barriers that say
14:34
no so that we can say yes to ourselves
14:36
oh my gosh I'd Endicott's and that's an
14:40
awesome story and and of course I'm
14:42
going to be following up with you to
14:43
find out what happened if that nothing
14:45
happened but you know what here's the
14:47
thing you're right you just stepped into
14:49
it you step into your power you did it
14:50
and that could that's probably is enough
14:53
right there right there right there we
14:56
want to thank everybody for sharing this
14:58
time with us because we know that you
15:00
have a choice as to where you spend your
15:02
time and you chose to spend it with us
15:03
and we are eternally grateful we want to
15:06
make sure that you go out and give
15:07
somebody an awesome day and we'll see
15:09
you next time on the next episode of the
15:12
little white lie goodbye everyone bye
